So I'm just wondering what exactly the people on Wall Street are bitching about, from what I've heard it's mostly people who don't have jobs who have nothing better to do or people who DO have jobs bitching about there being no jobs and that it's all just a waste of time. Could someone explain this whole mess to me?

They don't have money, and we all know corporations are evil and governments are naturally corrupt and elitist.

Now I'm not saying I disagree with it, some people do have valid reasons, but most of it is kids being kids.

Most of the people there feel that the economy and corporate structure have been rigged against them, and/or feel that they have been taken advantage of somehow, and are mad as hell, so they just want to do SOMETHING to show their rage.

Yes, some of them are just there to be part of a protest. But some are there to protest "rich guys playing lottery with the stock market, and screwing up the economy". .....n' stuff.

That being said, there is no leader, and there is no clear agenda. *shrug* We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Bunch of young whippersnappers goin' on with their "Rock n Roll" and "Drug use" and "Communism" and "Free thinking"

Back in MAH day, we walked uphill both ways in the snow for five miles to a job. And we LIKED IT. Kids these days....

OT: I'd like to know what they really want as well, my friend. And I don't really see a coherent narrative from them

If I have to guess, The "99%" people are angry that the CEOs will not produce any jobs and would outsource to cut costs and keep money for them selves by changing laws that able to look that they are doing the right thing but not. Similar to how the government gave bailouts for jobs and the CEOs produce small number of jobs and then lay them off due to the "resection". Although I could be wrong.

Yeah cause everytime I try to follow it, the news people don't really say why they even started protesting and it's soooo confusing and most people on The Escapist (that have posted their own comments on it) say it's just a bunch of stupid people bitching for no reason.

The problem with Occupy Wall Street is that there is no clear set of aims. The main theme of the problems they are addressing are that A) Lack of regulation has led to a corrupt banking system, which played a big part in the economic crisis. B) The banking system has too big an influence on government policy, meaning that not enough is being dome to prevent the same mistakes and corrupt practices that fueled the economic crisis from happening again. Underlying all this is growing resentment towards the whole ideal of American society that 'If person A has more money than person B, that can only be because person A has worked harder, meaning that person B is a deadbeat and deserves no support or sympathy whatsoever.' This ideal is woefully out of touch and has led to America having a completely inadequate and unfair system of social support.

Basically, all the ne'er do well's on Wall Street and in Washington have been screwing with the people for too long and they've had enough. However, what they actually propose to do about it is unclear.

The Occupy Wallstreet group is a group that doesn't know what they're protesting. You could ask fifty of them what they are protesting and I would be willing to bet that you're getting fifty answers.

And sorry Occupy Wallstreet person, you protesting "greed" is terribly ineffective.

They are pissed because they (or their family) ran up too much debt, and signed idiotic credit agreements, because they wanted to live above their means. Feeling stupid when it all comes back around, they want to change the system to protect them from themselves.

But most people are there to look good to the opposite sex. Protests are well known places for hooking up.
Really? Now that IS interesting....if you'll excuse me I...have to go out now, BYE!

This is what I keep hearing.

I've also heard that some students took out too many loans to get a degree in something that wasn't marketable, and now they're pissed that they can't get a high paying job with a Masters in interpretive dance.

Also, loans NEVER go away until you pay them. Even if you declare bankruptcy, which 'erases' your debts, loans still stick.

Basically, they're pissed off that they made bad life choices.

Ugh wow ok the 1% of the population pretty much controls the entire government and 42% of the world's wealth, while the 99% of the rest of the world control nothing and barely fight over whats left of the wealth.

It's basically civil unrest because the economy is going down, jobs keep becoming lost or shipped over seas, taxes keep going up along with the price of food, gas, clothes everything else you'd need.

with while how bad everyone in the world is doing, and debt keeps piling up, government decide to let things like banks not pay their taxes, give companies big bail outs that are suppose to go to more jobs but go to bonuses instead, while we end up paying for these tax breaks and bail outs to cover us.

and last but not least, if you don't have 250k, you can't buy a lobbyist to say what you want for the government.

These people are a group of people that believe that enough pissed off people can get together, that they can change something. and while everyone tends to have their own message, they are all doing it together.

So get out there and join them if your pissed off at the government, or afraid you might lose your job, or think something else in unfair that you don't have a say anymore in the country you live in.

The participants are mainly protesting social and economic inequality, corporate greed, as well as the power and influence of corporations, particularly from the financial service sector, and lobbyists over government.

That. Corruption, not debt, not whinging, not your stupid right wing fucking fantasies, it's a protest about the corruption of governments and said government being in the pocket of big business. Denying this is like denying the earth is round. Anything else while im here? Or have the tea party chimpanzees gone?

That's pretty much the problem with it, there is no root cause they can all get behind and support.

The general gist of it is that people are angry over the incredibly ridiculous wealth distribution in the US, and the way it has basically destroyed the economy. They decided to get together with their friends and sit around on Wall Street getting run over by police motorcycles to protest it, for some reason that's still beyond my grasp.

The news can't have a firm grasp on the protests because the vast majority of the protesters don't have a firm grasp on what is going on.

That said there is a problem. The rich and the supper rich in the country don't suffer the loses with the companies they run. They pass these losses onto the people that work for the companies. They earn millions while laying off thousands because of the bottom line.

That's what people are upset about. That and the tax structure which is fairly friendly to the super wealthy in the country. I don't fully support it but I have to say there is something to the protests.

Maybe some are there to hook up, and maybe some are there because they spent themselves into a hole they couldn't get back out of, but that doesn't excuse treating them all like that. Especially when there is a legitimate complaint buaried in all that.
