What are you using for headsets in console gaming?

Am I right that any 3.5 mm jack headset plugged into a PS4 controller can get voice chat, mike and game sound? Would the same thing work in the Wii U and Xbox One?

While I'm at it, anyone successfully charge a PS4 controller on an android phone charger? I tried once. My pad got hot but not charged.

Your input is appreciated.

Does the Wii U even have voice chat?

But I use the same headset for my Xbox One and PS4. Its shitty though and I need a new one.

I have a Turtle Beach Ear Force X12 Gaming Headset for my 360, and a Sony Wireless Stereo over-the-ear headset from my lappy.

I used to have a logitech g430 for my PS4 but I lost it when I moved, so I ordered Sonys wireless one the other day.

Nothing, actually. I use speakers.

I use these still (wirelessly with the ps3, wired with the xbox one since it doesn't have Bluetooth). They are actually pretty good as far as sound goes, especially for only 80 bucks, but the build quality is TERRIBLE. They WILL break at the hinges. I just gorilla glued them (and they no longer fold as a result). I've no idea how these things got the greenlight for mass production, but I guess sony had to cut some corners to keep them under 100 bucks.

I like the fact that the mic is hidden and you get some decent power and bass. They are also comfortable. Used them for up to 4 hours at a time without discomfort. The virtual surround sound is better than I thought it'd be, but I really only use it when watching movies.

I have these for use on the Ps3... I think I maybe able to get them to work correctly on the PS4 but if I cannot, your Sony Golds are likely my next option. Thank you.

To answer OP questions
I myself use Tritton AXPRO 5.1. Love it.
As for the 3.5mm jack question...no that will carry audio only it can't do voice chat. If you're not using official Sony hardware then for mic you'll want to get something that works over USB or use the ps4 camera.
As for charging the controller you need to plug it into a console or a pc with dual shock drivers installed. It needs to do a 'handshake' with what's charging it and dumb USB chargers you plug into a wall (if not specifically advertised as able to charge controllers) and phones won't do it

My PS3 is long gone, but I still have a PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset.

It's not good. The material isn't very comfortable and the sound quality is just okay. The virtual surround sound was just more boomy (and garbled), from what I remember. I had it turned off most of the time. And for some reason it doesn't work with PS2 games on the backwards compatible PS3s. I only bought it because I only had a monitor and nothing to get sound from. I prefer good headphones or speakers and a separate microphone for communication (or just typing everything out. I only keep a microphone on my table to make phone calls with Google). The lack of headphone jacks on the consoles themselves makes it all a hassle, though.
The reason it won't work on bc ps3s is because the ps2 hardware inside doesn't recognise them. It's the same reason why the wii controllers don't work with game cube games7

I had some 5.1 Triton Pros for my PC. I broke the cord (wasn't wireless) which was a sad day. Great headset. Thanks for the advice about the chargers. Pretty sure I'd seen someone writing that PS4 controllers could be charged with phone charger. Guy was wrong!

Consider the Hyper-X Clouds, one of the most popular sets on the market and for good reason. Good quality/reviews and since these are rebranded Takstar Pro 80s (www.head-fi.org/products/takstar-pro-80) are actually quite good for sound quality.

Picked my own set set up a week ago and are pretty happy with them. I do have to mention the comfort especially of these on my head, like some other reviews mentioned, I genuinely forgot I was wearing these cause they're that comfy.

Still using my PS3 wireless headset on my PS4. Going to need to replace it some day, but it's been golden for a bunch of years.

I don't voice-chat, so I just unplug the Sony MDR 7506's I use for my laptop IF I don't use the TV speakers, which is only at night. It's also rare because I usually have one headphone on my left ear, plugged into either my laptop or my phone, and listen to Youtube/podcasts while I play the games that need clean-up. I spent like, four three-hour podcasts just playing Mad Max. I like playing Shadow of Mordor so far, but I've never gone near LotR so I don't even pause whatever I'm watching during the cutscenes.
