So this isn't a thread about how bad your Dungeon Master is.
Its a thread about what does your DM do that you don't think many other DMs usually do.

For example my current DM has an annoying habit of knocking everyone in the party out. He's pretty new to DMing so we let it slide but I think for the 20 hours hes been in charge we've been gassed, hit over the head or mind controlled around a dozen times. But we're slowly getting him to change that and the story he has us running through is pretty fun for a first timer.

I also had another DM who had a habit of ambushing us all the time. Whenever we left a town or explored a non-threatening cave we knew that goblins, bandits or whatever was going to ambush us. But he gave us a lot of good loot from the ambushes so I'm not complaining.

So what are some of the quirkier things that your DM(s) do?

As a DM, I know my quirks are the Shyamalan twist (Turns out you were working for the necromancer and not the Order of Light) and the Trap Room(s) of Death.

The fun is getting the players allowing the players to look for the twist before it happens, changing the game entirely. The trap room has cause some intense situations though (underwater lock picking and statue moving is the best).

Statues. In a room? Look for statues. In a corridor? Look for statues. Stuck? There is some puzzle that has something to do with statues. He's pretty good at everything else, but he has this statue... thing, like he really can't think up any other puzzle mechanic.

On the roleplaying side, he's really, really good at doing vastly different voices for NPCs, but he has to get them EXACTLY right and can spend up to five minutes preparing them, saying the same sentence repeatedly until he's sure he's got it. That's typically when we go get pizza or the 'health potion' that our druid makes out of apple juice and Red Hots in a crock pot.

Whenever our DM would suggest our characters were getting to powerful and he needed to limit source books and we would just steam roll through the next encounter we always wiped "always" it became a running joke :).

well i dont know about quirks, but i do like to have recurring villians. having a good villian is one of the things i really want to get right, and one of the ways i have to do that is give him more screen time so the players can see him develop as a character before they kill him. i also enjoy some house rules, one of which is a random magic table that i roll on whenever someone has their spell interrupted.
