Duh, it'll be Super Mario Bros. 2. It wins every year.

OT: Based on what I predict I will love to death it'll probably be a death match between Dark Souls 3 and Persona 5 (if it comes out in the US this year).

Is this actually any good?
I've been following SUPERHOT [footnote]I just like writing it this way. SUPER! HOT! SUPER! HOT! So weirdly catchy[/footnote] since the original gamejam version, even donated to its Kickstarter[footnote]Only time I've ever done so[/footnote], and while the full game is not an earthshattering revelation, its 'time only moves when you do' schtick is a genuinely refreshing take on time manipulation mechanics.

And most of all, it's fun. Figuring out the quickest, most efficient method of beating a level can be really satisfying. Especially in the endless mode, where after having survived for a long time, I've gotten cold sweat trying to think myself out of some desperate situations. It's also really neat to then see yourself do it at full speed when you eventually die.
The reviews I've read make it sound pretty cool, haven't had a chance to watch any gameplay though.... Would like to hear your thoughts on it!
I feel watching someone else play SUPERHOT doesn't really sell the game. IMO it's one of those games you have to play for yourself.

If you want, you can still play the prototype here [http://superhotgame.com/play-prototype/]. Should give you a solid idea on whether you like the core mechanic and want to play an expanded version of it.
I did enjoy making Matrix like movies with it. I'd add in unnecessary jumps and camera pans. As someone who played the beta, I expected a lot more campaign, and a slightly better story. (The story is fine, it's just not my taste.) It's short and sweet, and will give you a headache if you play endless mode for four hours and then try living in real time again. I liked it, and keep in mind I'm a thrifty person, I really didn't feel comfortable paying full price, but then again I did play half of it in the beta.

I'm thinking Dark Souls 3 because of the fandom alone.
What, you didn't beat Sif from behind your back without looking at the screen? What R U casul?

I refuse to comment on games I have not yet played. I hope the next Deus Ex is good, but there IS the chance that squeenix fucked it all up. :(

So far, XCOM2 is high up on my list of stuff that came out in 2016, but then again, I haven't played all that many games from this year thus far (FF explorers is alright, but nothing more, and while I REALLY do love what I've played thus far I've barely scratched the surface of Evochron Legacy)

Looks at list.

Huh. Every one of them is a game you've previously created a thread for to sing the praises of, and are only for a select few genres at that.

Don't worry, I can accept that as a coincidence. 0_0

So far the only 2016 game I've played is Grim Dawn and I like it a lot, so I guess that's my GotY for now.
What I'm hoping will end up as my GotY is The Last Guardian.

Assassin's Creed 2017

Yeah, you read that right. 2017. With a seven on the end.

Seems they're not making an AC game for 2016 apparently, but whichever one they release in 2017 is going to be so good that it will retroactively and unanimously declared GOTY for 2016 as well.

I obviously haven't played it yet and know nothing about it but that's not going to stop me from pre-preemptively declaring it mankind's greatest work. The prestigious brand name and amazing amounts of talent involved make it a sure thing!

In the spirit of the OP, here are my nominees for GOTY:

Final Fantasy XVIII: After years of running fans through the ringer, Square-Enix releases their first FF game to hit over 90% on reviewers and fans since Final Fantasy X. Easy contender for RPG of the Year.

Godhand 2: Platinum Games surprised everyone with the sequel that had been left for dead years before. Bayonetta and Jeanne as bosses (and playable characters on New Game+) and a combat system improved from the original make this the easy choice for Action of the Year.

Borderlands 3: The team that worked on 2 worked their magic again, following 12 total playable vault hunters as you explore 3 massive planets, working against the Corporation Coalition to secure five new vaults. A weapon customization system made the enjoyment of finding piles of guns even more fun, and the ability to have eight man parties for truly epic battles against creatures the size of Missouri. Even better, they added a PvP element to the gameplay that somehow didn't encourage griefing, an achievement that top scientists are calling a "miracle". Shooter of the Year.

My prediction for 2025 GotY is Half Life 4.

So basically, No-Man's Sky, Mirror's Edge Catalyst (Give me the beta access already dammit), SUPERHOT, The Last Guardian (if it doesn't get delayed again), and...I guess that's all that are in the running. Pokemon Sun and Moon doesn't really interest me since I found Showdown. I'm done with the story, just give me something to combat the fucking fairy types and I'll be happy. I mean I battle nearly everyday, but I sold my 3DS and I don't have an interest in the single player for once. I have a hunch Yooka Laylee is going to bomb about as hard as Gods of Egypt did.

So for now I'll vote MGS:V, because I'm still playing it and still loving it to the point where I'm at Liam levels of putting hours in.

One Piece Burning Blood will have to be purchased because I'm a huge fan, even though it looks like the same fucking awful gameplay engine that J-Stars Victory + has.

I don't even feel like picking up Uncharted 4. I mean, I'll be bored enough by then to play it but I hate the thought that I'm supporting it. I don't even like Nathan Drake as a character, and I'm not the biggest fan of the gameplay either. But it is an exclusive so might as well get it if it goes on sale.

Oh! I am looking forward to watching a playthrough of Persona 5 on Youtube. I loved 4 to death, but I feel like watching the accompanying anime was even better. I love the 4 crew so it'll be a hard transition, but hopefully I'll grow to love the new crew as well. I just can't stand dungeon crawlers.

It's pointless, Nekopara episode 2 is already out, publisher folks better delay those games to 2017 if they want any recognition.

Pony Island for "Game of The Year 2016"!!

Other than that, Star Fox Zero would get a nomination, I guess... I don't fucking know...

Wait, I thought 2025 GoTY would be Half Life 12: Gritty Ultra Realistic Reboot, after Gaben snaps and starts releasing yearly instalments after being driven mad by all the questions about HL3.

I was getting some serious deja vu from this thread, until I checked and found out you've already posted the complete inverse of this thread. Eh, I guess speculating on which games you've never played will be better than some other games you've never played is marginally less baseless than speculating on which games will be bad, but get praised more than some completely arbitrary measure.

You're right. It seems like the hype-machine either has another victim, or someone's shilling hard. I just checked and it seems this user has been flooding the forums with threads that are either shallow praise of some game that may or may not have been released yet, shallow criticism of some game that may or may not have been released yet, or baseless speculation and prediction.
Eh, I guess it's not my place to question people's prediction-fetish.

I'm pretty sure a real shill would use decent grammar, among other things.

Man, I wish I could get paid to shill. I'd be a natural. None of that spamming copy-pastes of press releases, no sir! I would provide only the finest, most subtle hand-crafted shilling anyone had ever seen.

You must be really excited for this year in gaming. You've made like 4-5 of these threads now. But hey, what the hell, I'll bite.

My early candidate for GOTY is Mount and Blade II Bannerlord. Mount and Blade Warband is my favourite game of all time, and this looks to be exactly what I'd want out of its sequel. The same core gameplay that I love so much, but with a lot better production, lots of new features that have been highly requested, and even more mod support (IMO, Mount and Blade has the best modding community in gaming and I say that as someone who loves playing modded Bethesda games).

Will it top many journalist GOTY lists? Probably not. Probably won't even be on most, but I know what kind of games I love most and despite this series' flaws, it has still provided me with the best gaming experiences by quite a bit.

From what I played? Personally?

I think I only played one real 2016 game, and that's Overwatch when I got access to a friends' friend Battle.net account who was blessed with a beta key.

And dear fucking GOD it was GLORIOUS. Sadly the glory only lasted a few hours. June can't come quickly enough. It's also the only new game I'm sure my PC can actually run. I want to be hyped for No Man's Sky, the new Deus Ex, Mafia 3 and Doom but I probably can't play those properly.

I guess Resident Evil Zero doesn't count, although that is the best game I have bought so far this year.

As far as predictions go, I think Zero Time Dilemma will be at the number one spot for me this year.

Isn't this essentially the 3rd/4th variation of the same thread you've been creating? >__>

Going by what I've played this year: XCOM 2 is enjoying the throne of "most-engaging". Buuuuut, I would be lying if I didn't say that Rabi-Ribi stole my heart. :3

Prediction mode: Dark Souls 3
I really want this one to be great, oh who am I kidding, I'll probably love the damn thing anyway.
