It's hard to know if the person on the other computer is who they say they are. A couple of my friends I've met over the internet.
As for romantic relationships? Seems kinda pointless to me and like it's already been said some people just want to hurt you. It can work but it's rare.

See, this describes meatspace relationships as well. What it boils down to is that people are people, and people tend to suck. If you don't put a bit of care and due diligence into any relationship, you'll most likely end up hurt.

Friendshipwise i met someone who comes up to stay for a few days. We have a great laugh

Met my fiancee online, after 4 months he moved interstate from Melbourne to Brisbane to live with me and my parents (kudos to my parents, it takes alot to trust a person you have only met once) and yeah, now we are engaged after 4 years together. We were best friends for 4 years beforehand, so I know all the dirty little secrets he doesn't want his mummy to know To scorn me would be the peak of stupidity.
