Hans Zimmer for the epic action and drama.

Clint Mansell for the ethereal melodies and skill with piano.

John Murphy for symphonic rock style.

They are my three absolute favorite composers ever.

Joe Satriani. Strabge Beautiful Music is an awesome album.

241 and Sayonora Senorita by Reel Big Fish are great, and so's the Alestorm version of Flower Of Scotland (I'm not scottish, but it's brilliant).

Anesthesia (Pulling teeth) by Metallica. Or more like the dead bassist Cliff Burton. Amazing bass solo. Beats all instrumentals I can think of.
Ahh.. I don't know if a butt load of distortion and the minor pentatonic scale makes it that amazing..

I adore Dream Theaters Dance of Eternity and there are a lot of Trance songs that I dig as well!

All great great songs and musicians. You could basically take any of Gary Burton's stuff and put that as my favorite.

Hmm. I of more classical style, I like Tchaikovsky, Grieg, and Brahms. Of others, I'd say Colleen.

Beethoven, Moonlight Sonata; even though it was one of the first songs I learnt to play on piano I still play it frequently.

As for guitar, Steve Vai, For The Love Of God; unlike the above I can only play bits of this he's just too darn good.

Mike Oldfield. Can't name a specific piece I love a lot of his work. But two of my fave albums are Tubular Bells (duh) and QE2.

I'm a big fan of Rachmaninov, CLint Mansell, Barber's Adagio may be cliche but is incredible, Henry Purcell's Dido's Lament is another, Metamorphosen by Strauss, Beethoven's Sonatas and Chopin's C# Nocturne all give me goosebumps.

That's classical, modern music wise I like Rush instrumentals, Jason Becker and Cacophony's work, some Steve Vai, Satriani and most of Petrucci's, and every instrumental song by Dream Theater and many others

EDIT: Soothsayer by Buckethead gets me every time too

Explosion's In The Sky's With Tired Eyes, Tired Minds, With Tired Souls, We Slept [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFUVcf_fsgI] is like poetry in musical motion.

The apocalyptic motifs in Godspeed You Black Emperor!'s East Hastings [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cg0VWxVqAmM]. The full thing is 16 minutes, so it can't fit on youtube.
