And so fellow escapists, I present to you today, the list of things that we fear!

Being buried alive
Insects
Heights
Snakes
Spiders
Ebola
Dogs
Loneliness
Claustrophobia
Bot-flies
Identity theft
Slavery (sort of)
Pain
Wasps
Germ/Dirt
Poisonous things
Large groups
Phobia-phobia (fear of fearing)
Knives
Night
Fire (not campfires, house fires)
Dying
Having someone you love die
Silence
Mazes
Planes
Escalators
Vaginas (I'm not sure about this one ._. )
Roaches

Really great response, did not expect to get this many replies, and I find it thoroughly to see what others are afraid of and too remind myself of them. Thanks!

I'm afraid of strangers asking me personal questions :p

Just kidding, the only thing I really cannot stand is spiders. It's weird. I'm fine with deadly snakes, lizards, and insects, but everything about even the non-deadly spiders just screams to me "IT IS THE ENEMY! KILL IT, KILL IT OR RUN AWAY!"

Don't worry! Everyone's afraid of spiders, I swear.

Not of death, but dying alone, or no one giving two shit about it.

And why all the fear of spiders. They ward off/eat those annoying bugs, spiders are our friends.

I'm sure, but it's the contrast that's unusual to me because I'm not in the slightest bit afraid of anything else. I've held lethal snakes, several times. I've been skydiving, bungie jumping, rock climbing, and absialing. You name it, chances are I've done it and really enjoyed myself. But if I come in to my room to find just a plain old, not terribly large house spider on the floor I suddenly become the equivalent of a 5 year old girl.

Trust me, I would GLADLY suffer a plague of blue bottles if it meant I could get rid of every last one of those fuckers. They eat things by liquefying their insides and drinking them like a smoothie for God's sake, but not before they let them struggle and suffocate in their web's first. These are creatures that are quite clearly meant to be feared and despised by all other living species.

Flying insects, enclosed spaces, large crowds, snakes and vaginas.
Afraid of snakes and vaginas? So you're asexual then?
No. I meant snakes as in the poisonous killing machines, not... the euphemism version.

Simpsons hentai. Yup. I am scared of it. Thanks asshole friend who linked me to it.
I wouldn't say I'm scared of it but I certainly don't see the appeal of it. Regular porn I can understand. Cartoon porn is pretty weird but considering this is the internet were talking about It could be a whole lot worse, but SIMPSONS cartoon porn. Why? Just why?

I'm scared of it, because the first picture of the page he linked me (he is an absolute asshole) is a picture of maggie and bart, uh, yeah...

Plus simpsons scares me in general. When a series that bad has gone on for 21 freaking seasons, I am scared for the human race. (Granted it was good at the beginning, but it's like modern warfare. Getting milked the fuck out of by the publisher/developer/company.

I thought you merely disliked them, or think they're creepy.

Oh, and is anyone else terrified of planes? Like, when I travel, I spend the whole flight convincing myself nothings going to happen, I tell myself the odds of a plane crash, and yet every pocket of turbulence scares the shit out of me.
Perhaps you should get yourself some tranquilisers... that way if the plane does crash, you'd've never known about it. Perhaps I should phrase that better...

You can have webcams put into your coffin so that people can make sure that you are dead. Alleviate your fears a tad bit. :p

And also Bot flies. *shudders*
Two things:

There're a couple of really weird places around the UK that offer live burials/cremations over the internet. With that in mind, imagine the the camera right in front of the face: and the eyes open mid-service. (Sorry, can't help laughing at that...)

And botflies aren't that scary... only the human botfly creeps me out. Also, I find it strangely amusing that for the taxnonomy of the botfly: section - Schizophora, can't help thinking of a drugged up fly...

(also body horror in general I find scary)
I managed to overcome my fear of body horror (i.e. lots of blood, guts and broken stuff) in the weirdest way. It comes with knowing a married couple, one of whom is a consultant surgeon and the other is an insurance saleswoman. Providing a decidedly snide and snarkey commentary while watching all five Saw movies (when only five had been made) marathoned regarding surgical needs and potential insurance payouts made them thoroughly hilarious.

EDIT:

[EDIT] I also get really squirmish when someone with a sharp knife is in the same room as me, even if its someone from my family.
Best stay away from me, then. I tend to wave any knife (or utensil, for that matter) I'm holding about while I talk.
ha that sounds quite funny

though the Saw movies arnt really body horror, its not just about doing horrible things to ones body

but its the whole Idea that the horror is coming from within your body, leaving you even more helpless and making it ALOT more terryfying (especially if mutation or disfigurement is involed)

best example is the Fly, or Cabin fever, or even Black swan has body horror elements

Spiders! Those things are the spawn of Satan himself! Also I am not a big fan of heights or snakes.
While I'm not afraid of spiders, I do have a tale of their evil ways.

I had been up late at night as usual, went into the kitchen to get some snacks, saw one on the floor, turned around snagged a shoe to smash it, it was gone, I said F it on the outside, on the inside I was a tad paranoid. Got snacks, went to bedroom, ate snacks, tossed off my shorts and watched tv in the trusty boxers. Needed to use the restroom, leaned to get my shorts, The spider was seeking revenge, he was prithee to my prior intentions, he had been hidden in my shorts, luckily I saw the bastard immediately, he tried to flee, and then he caught an old xbox360, the end!

I've been through crippling and debilitating illness which had left me with some germaphobic ways, but I've since whooped that.

My only remaining fear is that'll I'll snap and start killing stupid people for kicks.

P.S.(Whomever's reading) Yes I'm that quiet full-bearded 6'3 guy you sit nearby at work!

I think there has to be some kind of scientific reason behined most people fear of spiders

I mean I see a big cockraoch and yeah its a little creepy but I can handle it

but I see a big spider....and when it movies its like I get this reaction of disgust thats almost involuntary, its weird

I am not terribly fond of being out in the dark, and huge spiders, not tarantulas (my grandfather had a tarantula, so I quite like them), but when you have a huge spider crawling up your bedroom wall. It doesn't help when the rest of your roommates dislike spiders as well, so it makes them difficult to get rid of. The little money spiders I leave alone. They are only tiny and they keep the fly's away.
