Okay, I got a few...

Note: These are all just because of my real-life peer group where I live; I understand that online these games are talked about a lot.

Kingdom Hearts series, specifically the two numbered games. Nobody who I talk to at school has played them it seems and none of them think the concept sounds remotely interesting to play.

Sly Cooper series, a large portion of my friends have Xboxes.

Dark Souls, I know literally one other person in real life who has played this game. He didn't like it, so he sold it...

Destroy All Humans series, specifically the first two.

Spyro the Dragon and its two sequels, everybody I talk to thinks of the newer games and Skylanders.

Sonic Adventure.
I love Sonic Adventure, and recently picked it up on PSN, and I was not disappointed. In fact, I think I may like it more than ever. Most people either seem to despise all forms of 3D Sonic, with the exception of Colors and Generations, and the Adventure series usual garners a "eh, it was okay, but age horribly" response. And for people who are okay with 3D Sonics, they usually love Adventure 2 and consider it their favorite 3D Sonic, but don't really care much for Adventure 1. I am the exact opposite, in that I love Adventure 1 to pieces, and despise Adventure 2, considering it's only good points to be the Chao Garden, the soundtrack, the multiplayer and City Escape. So I tend to be in opposition to most Sonic fans on preferred Sonic games. I have only met 1 person in my entire life who said that they loved 1 and hated 2.

Record of Agarest War for me I absolutely love everything about that game
And I like the second one a lot
and have my problems with the third

But I can't find anyone else who loves or has even played it!
Mostly because I'm the only one of my friends with the patience for JRPG's
Especially when my most ringing endorsement of it is that the voice acting is amazing even though all the audio is in Japanese.

But I think it's the best game that's come out this console generation, so I bring it up every chance I get in the hopes that somebody out there has played it and will talk to me about how awesome it is.

Chalk another person agreeing with Persona. Why, in the name of god, can't I find people who've played this game in real life?! I also can't really find any Realm of the Mad God, Dwarf Fortress, Nethack, and I Wanna Be The Guy players in real life. I did help spread the love for Dark Souls, so that's an achievement of mine that helped spread the news of such a good game.

ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. I have one friend that likes Shadow of the Colossus, but I don't get the chance to talk to him much. More people should take a look at these beautiful games.

A favourite action/strategy game of mine is Hostile Waters.

This game

It was deservedly praised by critics when it was released but no-one bought it. I myself only noticed it in the 'Recommended' section of PC Zone after the game disappeared from the shelves, but I managed to find a second hand copy and gave it a whirl.

It was brilliant. I think it still is brilliant. But no-one else but me ever acknowledges this game. Even here on the Escapist, where any thread asking about good strategy games will inevitably have several posters mention Total War.
This. I can listen to Ransom and Kroker (who I believe are the same voice actor) yell at each other over comms all day. Quadruple bonus points for being written by comics legend Warren Ellis, having your boss voiced by Avon from Blakes 7, his adviser being voiced by Soolin from the same, and the game narrated by Doctor Who.

If the developers had implemented multiplayer I would still be playing it 24/7. As it is, I believe someone is currently developing Carrier Command 2, but without the story, cast and crew it wont be the same. :-/

Alas, no one in my entourage has really experienced the pure joy of Mount & Blade. I even bought them all copies when it was on sale and at best they sank a few hours in. The game has hooked me line and sinker since it's release and is my go-to game whenever I get bored of other games.

The Crackdown official forum has about 12 people on it.
Seriously, though, this is basically a proper Judge Dredd gama + Superpowers.
One of my favorite games of all time, it was the first game I ever played that made my stomache drop when I jumped off a building (agency tower).I actually got the freerunner achievement for getting all the agility orbs....I was missing 4 hidden orbs, I swear I would hear them everywhere so I gave up...Which reminds me I should pick it up again, thanks :)

I'm basing these choices on my personal life, as you can find anyone gushing about anything on the internet. Sometimes you can even find people gushing on the internet, but I avoid those sites.

In order of importance:
1. Persona 3. The ending was so good that even though I have the FES version, I won't play the final game after the original ending. I'm worried it would ruin it for me somehow. Kind of like when you see a movie that ended in a way that seems definite, but then they release a sequel that you are too scared to see because it shouldn't be in the first place.

2. Catherine. I think a lot of people avoided the game because of the cover, and I would have too if I didn't know what the game is really about. The cover made it look like an official translation of a porn game. While the story isn't the most amazing thing ever, it was unique in it's maturity of the subject matter. It's also the first game I know of where...
It has a trans woman who looks like a woman and talks like a woman and is only part of one joke, unlike a lot of games and movies where they are an over makeup'd obvious man with a deep voice who is a joke every time he enters

3. El Shaddai. Seriously, just look at it. It's environment moves jarringly from lush vistas to TRON to a weird geometric world and it all makes sense why it changed. The story is good too, but the end almost ruined it. Suddenly they're talking about some guy I don't remember and this girl has a mission I didn't know about and GRAHHHH! WHAT WAS THAT WAVY WEIRD THING AT THE BEGINNING WHEN ENOCH FINDS THE TOWER?! If you understood the ending, please help me. Everything made sense up until that part.

4. Shadows of the Damned. The gameplay wasn't anything special, but I found the story to be amazing. It seems stupid if you give it no thought, which I can understand as it involves a demon that poops checkpoints, but the deeper theme is great. It looks like just a game about schoolyard humor, but it's real theme is about the flaws and dangers of the male ideal to be the biggest, the strongest, and the most feared. After all, Garcia put his girlfriend into danger and a possibility of eternal torture just because he couldn't stand looking even a bit weaker than Flemming.
And when the macho Gears of War looking dude comes around to save the day, his macho stupidity gets him killed. He couldn't understand and work around his limits as he convinced himself that he had none.

To this day, I am the only person I have ever met that has played an Advanced Wars title and most people aren't even aware of that series' existence. I never thought freaking AW would be the series I'm the gaming hipster about, but apparently nobody else on the planet has ever heard of it.
I love Advance Wars. I've got AW2 on my phone and I can play it any time. To make you feel better, who's your favorite CO? I go Kanbei, superior firepower.
Funny you mention Kambei, because Sonja is my favorite CO in a video game, hands down. She's the Goddess of Map Awareness and definitely a good fit for my own play style, and an inspiration in other games as well.

Metal Arms: Glitch in the System. It's a great xbox era Third-person-shooter, but I haven't meet anyone who's even heard of it.

I know what you're going through buddy.

OT: Almost every game you guys have mentioned I either think "fuck that shit" or "what the fuck, I know plenty of people that play that".

I didn't see these mentioned, so I figured I might chime in.

Summon Night: Swordcraft Story and its sequel are probably my two favorite Gameboy Advance games ever (seriously, try them out)

There was a console RPG called Gladius back in the days of the gamecube (I think it was on X-box as well.) The game was somewhat flawed, but I found it to be absolutely spectacular and one of my favorite games.

I was huge into Catherine when it came out, but couldn't really find anyone who was interested in it. Well that was until I made a side game with Catherine that involved drinking.

Recently I've played Kingdoms of Amalur and Jade Empire. While playing them, I had the same two people walk in to my room, ask "What's that?", and when I tell them, they say "Never heard of it, but okay." These same people said that I'm "not a real gamer" because I haven't played any GTA game. In fact, none of my friends plays RPGs quite as much as I do. They just don't understand.

These two for me. Final Fantasy 13 does have its flaws, I can recognise that. But it does such a good job of story, character development and world building. If it didn't take as long to get into it it would probably have been much better received.
i have always felt that final fantasy 13 would have been much better received if it hadnt been called final fantasy. so much about it was so drastically different from other final fantasy and i think people were too busy comparing it to the previous games to be able to really appreciate the game. i feel it would have gotten much more approval from gamers if they saw it simply as a jrpg, rather than as a final fantasy game
Exactly, I fully agree. But then we get the problem that DMC has: can you call a game part of a series while changing everything that defines it? With Final Fantasy its even more important to ask that question since each game only has gameplay elements to connect them together. For that reason, I can't really fault veteran Final Fantasy players for being annoyed at FF13 since it does remove those key elements that defined the Final Fantasy games. FF13 is not a bad game in its own right, but it is a bad Final Fantasy game
id say thats a fair description on ff13. that kind of how i felt about fallout 3. it wasnt a bad game by any means but it didnt have the same feel because it was an entirely different genre of game, and for that i consider it a good game but a bad sequel. dmc i think is a different issue since im pretty sure its supposed to be a reboot, not a sequel. and youre right, i do think some of the criticism of ff13 is valid. the lack of towns and dropped money was a particularly weird choice (though i liked the lack of towns, it made it feel more like a journey and like you were alone in your quest), but a lot of people go overboard. even total biscuit, who i consider to generally be a very objective journalist, described the game as horrible and i cant helped thinking that if there had been no final fantasy title or chocobos, his opinion of the game would have been more favorable
