I realised as I played Torchlight that I almost never bought anything from the shops, not with loot dropping all over the place, mostly I bought gems (not to use, to collect) and tinkered with the enchantment shop for awhile.

Same with Final Fantasy, I might buy a couple of Phoneix downs early on, but the only if materials are required for building stuff, I would only just upgrade to the next weapon and sell to shops.

Devil May Cry, only for upgrades.

I guess it fits my money hoarding habits in real life

I almost never buy from the shops in games. When I do get money or weapons its from dead enemies. ^_^

In real life I'm extremely tight. This follows me into the gaming world too. I usually sell loads and buy little, though in a game I'll usually make sure that I spend a hell of a lot on all the best healing items. And sometimes weapons too, if said weapons are a lot more powerful than my current ones...

When it comes to RPGs, I usually like to buy lots of healing items right at the offset. I figure it's going to take me a few levels before I can really kick ass, so until then I want to make sure I can heal often.

just like in real life, I'm a cheap prick only buying the good stuff if it is for me and giving hand-me-downs to everybody else unless on special occasion

I guess that games that offer loot set a bad example for kids "If you kill someone, you get stuff and don't have to pay for anything!" :p

I buy nothing, unless it can only be acquired at a shop. Seriously, I've played through Mass Effect and not gone near people selling weapons or mods, you just don't need them.

That said, when playing Final Fantasy, I don't buy anything, then when I have stupid amounts of money I stock up fully on all healing items and any equipment I still need. Some stuff in FFIX can only be gotten from synth shops.

I manage my finances better in-game than I do in reality, I'd say.
But then again, I also get stuff for free by killing people in game, so there isn't much of a comparison...

I rely mostly on shops to update weapons and armor, but I buy armor first, then weapons, then anything else after.

In borderlands I generally only buy "Items of the Day" and heal packs.

I mostly sell, infact on my level 29 Soldier, it has over million bucks.

Depends what kind of game, but basically I will always buy weapons before anything, unless I am absoloutley out of healing items.

This is the case most of the time. Although, if I realise that money is going to be very easy to acquire, then I will fork out the dosh for something nice and shiny.

I buy little and often at the start of a game and gradually build up so that I have the max amount of the best healing items quite early on, but I will level grind for hours as much for the money as for the experience. I always finish a game with an obscene amount of cash (ah, if real life could only reflect that)

Avoid spending of any kind at all costs, just like in real life. Looks like that's the general consensus so far, though.

Like most people have said here, I to I'm cheap in both real life and in games, the only thing I will ever buy is amour and health and perhaps a weapon but it has to be a really cool and useful weapon.

I sell everything I don't want and save up only to buy weapons, armour, spells and ammo that I need, if it can't be gained from looting an enemy. In Final Fantasy games, I almost never use potions, no matter what state I'm in, because it feels like a waste of money. I always feel really edgy if I'm not making money out of a transaction, which is weird because in real life I'm not the most frugal person. I guess it's just my OCD kicking in.
