My only experience with parkour came from when I played InFamous, and I thought it was awesome. Instead of walking around obstacles you can hop or climb over them. Don't feel like taking the stairs? Just leap from window pane to window pane. It's not something an out of shape overweight person like myself is ever likely to master, but if I needed to get somewhere in an urban setting quickly this would be very handy.

I think its awesome when you acctually do it, but when your doing 180s down 3 stairs and you call it parkour Im just gonna mock you. We had a group like that at our school and we would always say to them in mentally chananged voices "Hard Core Parkour, D D D" so yah, if you do it right, awesome if not, then meh.

Your awesome if you get the ddd joke.

its just basically fun running, its not hard to do, but if you mess up may God help you.
I agree that it's not hard. It's not really bound to any skill level. But I think there is a certain discipline and dedication that you should try and reach with just about anything you do.
also the power to pee anywhere, trust me it helps after nearly breaking your neck.

so fucking awesome

and more games should be made around it like Prototype
I don't think Prototype counts due to the Blood Gliding he performs.

I think you mean Lara Croft games, Assassin's Creed, Mirror's Edge, Prince of Persia, Brink...those are free running.

Edit: sums of me spelinz wer wr0ngz
but you can't run over 100 miles per hour seamlessly jumping, gliding, and flipping over cars, tanks, and skyscrapers defying every law of motion once and again for hours on end in any of those other games.

plus, a lot of them get bogged down with platforming or puzzle solving. Prototype is just pure, absolute super-powered freerunning where nothing short of a missile can stop you.

that's why i could never get into Assassin's Creed or any of those other games. The "parkour" is too slow paced and there's too much standing between me and the roof of whatever building i want to be standing on.

plus i bet none of the main characters in any of the games you mentioned could do a dive-bomb onto a helicopter then skyjack another one in the amount of time it takes to say "Isaac Newton be damned."

I've tried doing it myself before. I was in an area with no one to do it with so it was kind of boring since I knew nothing. The only thing I could do was a vault and that was it. even then I landed on my ribs once and never attempted it again.

It's fun to watch but that's about all I get out of it. I'd much rather drive to where I need to be. It's much more relaxing and way less harsh on the knees.

OH GOD THEIR KNEES WILL BE SO BAD IN 25 YEARS.

Really, that's exactly what I think in my brain, over and over when I see it.
I can imagine it would feel exhilarating at the time, but with a genetic predisposition to bad knees, I'm not interested in risking it.

I also have to wonder how badly they get scraped up, slamming into brick walls 'n such as they do.
your knees should be fine if your practised at falling because of judo I am trained to fall from a full floors height on my side n be fine and to be able to roll out of things at high speeds so I dont hurt my legs.

OT: I actually love free running too but you also have to know how to handle yourself to do it without hurting yourself you dont just start off fliping across gaps.

If it's something you want to do I suggest keep going at it. No matter your skill level, you are going to fall sometimes. There is no way around that. But that's when you get back up and keep trying until you get it.
