...my two cents...
it seems to be the domain of squeakies and people who hack/use mods on multiplayer.
and ive heard nothing but complaints about every one after 4. "The story is too short", "The spawn points are abusable", "The games too slow"... blah blah blah...

and i just know that the second i kill someone ill have made a nemesis, and get hate mail for the next 19 days.

"seems" = ive not played it, however i have no inclination to do so.

I love the series. Though I think they should increase the development cycle, because the engine is starting to show it's age now. Odd how Valve have managed to keep the source engine fresh (to a certain extent) but the IW engine is starting to look a bit rusty.

I've played the first game and every one after and including CoD 4. I seriously dislike Black Ops' campaign, and I think it has the least fun multiplayer. I'm not saying I don't enjoy it, it can actually be really fun with friends, but it's certainly my least favourite.

I also wish they'd stop with the DLC. It's annoying as fuck. I picked up World at War for PS3 more or less when it came out. I traded it in last week at Game so I could buy Red Dead Redemption, and then bought World at War on Steam for £10 because I really liked the game and had become a fully fledged PC gamer over the past few years. Suddenly I had all these new maps which I didn't have on PS3. Why couldn't everybody have those maps for free? They're actually some of the best in the game. Developers/publishers seem to be a lot more greedy than they used to be. New maps used to come free as part of updates and patches, yet now they want to rob us for every penny we've got.

I have played three CoD games this generation - World at War, Modern Warfare 2, and Black Ops. For all three, the quality of the single player experience, for me, was as follows - ok, good, painfully mediocre. As for the multiplayer, it's fun. No, it isn't exceptional, but if you're looking for fast-paced, "run & gun", twitchy shooter action that requires little to no thought or strategy, I would say any of the new Call of Duty games would be a fine choice.
Thats the difference between IW and Treyarch.

OT: The first 2 were amazing, 2 of the best first person shooters ever. Not a big fan of the Treyarch titles always seemed a bit second rate and Blops just seemed to be trying (badly) to match the specticle of the MW series. THe MW series is ok for a bit of fun, but part of me really wants IW to go back to WW2.

I played CoD offline back in the my PC days.
But when I actually tried out the multiplayer in Black Ops, I found it to be greatly inferior to what I've come to expect after playing Bad Company 2.

I think the franchise's only strength lies in it's well-established and loyal user-base and brand power by now.

Hmm, I'm gonna sound like an old man and say, "It was better in the old days." CoD 2 was brilliant, CoD 4 was even better, WaW was still pretty good, and then they just started to milk the dead cash cow dry. Plus, after seeing that MW3 looks EXACTLY the same as MW2, just with MORE killstreaks, I'm kinda sorta done. Except for Zombies. Zombies is awesome.

It's a dead series to me, i have no desire to play a CoD game again. My last one was MW2. I enjoy it but i got tired of it fast. The whole CoD elite whatnot is really turning me off that franchise even more than i already am.

I like the series, but I feel the model of releasing a new one every year is killing my interest in it, and seeing that MW3 is just a mildly different MW2, and considering that MW2 is my most despised one, I'm not too keen on it's future for us.

I enjoy them.

Only play the single-player campaign, and it's a fun game. Other than that I played split screen multiplayer and co-op, and it also seems fine. Never played it online, though.

I honestly never started liking them until the fourth one. Before that I played the second and third one and they bored me.

Very well made. Personally not the type of game I'm interested in. Other developers should stop trying to copy it.

I've played all of the CoD games that were released for PC, and my experiences were as follows:

1. Great! (just didn't like the health pack system)
2. Great! (not as varied gameplay as 1, but still a damned good ride)
MW Great! (if only it was longer)
WaW OK... (pretty good narrative, but gameplay just got boring, preferred MP)
MW2 Nnnnnn (OK, this is getting a bit silly now)
BO Fuck you Activision! (this is the only game that's given me a headache upon completion)

So, like a lot of other gamers, it did its job well, but by WaW, the cow was milked dry and all the followed was frantic trickles of pus. *brrr*

I've played the CoD franchise since CoD2 on the Xbox 360. That game I found to be quite enjoyable, but the online was quite annoying at times. I've played all the games from that one to the latest addition of Black Ops and I must say that yes they do get repetitive and this is why I now do not own a copy of a CoD game, I always end up trading them in due to boredom. It's not that they're terrible games, I feel that it's just symptomatic of all FPS games that focus purely on run and gun game play. Killzone got old fast, Haze? (O_O) Even Resistance 2 with it's huge frenzied battles online and offline got boring from time to time. And yet I can still play Oblivion, running through the same copy and paste cave or dungeon without ever feeling like I was terribly bored.

(Zombies were nice though, but only in WaW when it surprised the trousers off me!)
