I think the internet needs 4chan more than it likes to admit.
Care to explain? I kinda like the place, but I've never seen anyone with the viewpoint that it's needed.

4chan is pretty much the internet taken to a logical extreme.

Everything is anonymous, nothing is sacred.

You will find the most disgusting people who get a massive power trip by anonymously ruining people's day. You will also find some of the best in depth conversation on pretty much any topic you care to talk about. Every type of person is represented and most boards have a pretty decent standard.

I even like the fact that /b/ exists. It has spawned so much of the internet I have come to love and occasionaly has threads of pure gold grace it's putrid porn and gore filled pages.

I can understand the revulsion though. I'm pretty much un-offendable but I've been on the internet too much. I've seen things that were genuinely nasty on /b/.

I've... seen things you people wouldn't believe... [laughs] Pony threads clogging /co/ only to be banished to the waters of /b/. I watched /tr/ shine into existence only to be drowned by the behemoth that is rule 34. All those... moments... will be lost in time, like [coughs] tears... in... rain. Time... to die...*

I've been to 4chan a couple times. Definitely not a place I would want to frequent. But occasionally there are gems of entertainment that come out of that cesspool.

4chan is the Skyrim of the internet. The people are jerks, the environment is harsh, outsiders aren't welcome, and inhabitants get very protective of their culture, and won't co-operate with the rest of the world. It makes sense to just pack up and leave. But there are things there that are worth staying for, and a certain sense of satisfaction to be gained from not just surviving, but thriving there.

/tg/ and /d/ were still good last time I went there.

The last time I went there, I was like 14 and I was scared of getting viruses from porn sites. Some of the gifs were decent. How silly I was. Good times.

Also, that train thing was hilarious, I hope that guy wasn't serious about getting them to add hearts lol.

Frequently browse /mu/ to keep up with music, /lit/ when I don't know what book to read next and /fit/... Well mostly for the sticky, which did help me a fuckton with getting back in shape.
If you steer clear of /b/ it's not that bad...

Well it is, but it's just less shit.

I used to post on /lit/ occasionally, but for every interesting and intelligent conversation that I had, I had a dozen flame wars with sophomoric wannabes.

As I have said before: there is the film trope of the "bar at the end of the world" in westerns and such. 4chan is something like "the bar at the end of the internet." Enter at your own risk.

Only place where you can have a good discussion on the internet, mainly because most people know what they are talking about. I avoid /b/ like the plague though.

I quite like it, well the non /b/ parts of it. I mostly stick to /lit/ and /v/, though in recent days I've been avoiding /v/ due to the high amounts of Steam Sale spam and Halo Nostalgia threads. It can be pretty rough and tough at times, but I have also seen some really long and awesome conversations about interesting topics of all strides. Never been to /pol/ is it as bad as I can imagine?

It confuses me. I have no idea how to navigate the site, can't tell one poster from another, and they all talk weird. In other words... GET OFF MY LAWN! *shakes her walking stick*
Odd, I've always found 4chan to be an incredibly simple interface.

I'm that way with Reddit, though. I think the site's an eyesore and the interface too obtuse for a newbie. Luckily I've been informed to never go there [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOqb_UzJSUQ].

Anyway, far as the anonymity goes, it just comes with the territory. Some of the boards have poster IDs now, and while it's nice, it really only makes the non-ID'd boards more frustrating as you get used to having them.

Wait. You are actually being serious? I would laugh at you, but I find it too tragic to be funny.
I go on /mu/, people actually know shit about music and give good recommendations.
I go on /a/, pretty much everyone has seen enough to have a valid opinion and know alot about the medium.
I go on /tv/, people discuss new films and old as well as art films and blockbusters.

Face it, once you get past the hate and cynicism the people on 4chan are very knowledgeable about what they are interested in. If you go to the relevant board with entry level taste or try to get along with people who know their shit when you yourself don't you will get shot down.

There is also no place but 4chan where I can mention a band such as Fushitsusha and not expect them not to be known.

That being said there alot of people who don't know what they are talking about and get shot dwn immediately most of the time.

I have. As I said I used to post on /lit occasionally. They are virtually all sophomoric, with no redeeming qualities. Basically, the site is the literal definition of sophistry. Made worse by its own insular and elitist nature.

I find it awful, immature and stupid. Any place with pony porn is awful.
Well, you'll be happy to learn that it's banned on every part of the site now as of last month.

OT: People who ***** about have usually only went to /b/ and left after about 15 seconds of judgement.

I really like 4chan. It feels like everyone is honest there, compared to other places where they'll lie to your face, because they're cowards. It has some good and interesting stuff at times, but some boards can be repetitive and go on about the same shit in more than one thread.

I've not been to /b/ much. I don't think it's a good representation of 4chan either, since it's just one board, but everyone thinks of it when they think of 4chan. I've mostly been to /a/, /jp/, and /pol/. /wsg/ and /wg/ are nice to look through too occasionally. I go to /pol/ whenever I feel pretty pissed off at something.

It can be an extremely funny place, and that's pretty much the only reason I go there. The raw humor and tripping up of fellow anons, as well as the general unfiltered view at parts of the internet I otherwise wouldn't have seen are why I used to go there. I don't want to go "/b/ used to be good," but either it's because I've gotten older or the topics de jour are just not interesting to me. Even when the board was being spammed with Girugamesh, I kinda thought that was funny. "Rate my dick" isn't funny. It's not what I used to go to 4Chan for.

So, these days, I kind of see 4Chan as that place I used to go to have a bit of fun. I still check in every week or two, but it's a cursory glance, not the hours and hours I spent in the past on /tg/, /b/, /d/ (yes) and others.

You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.
Thankfully Reddit seems to have eaten it.

I honestly said that 4chan is better than facebook, because at least they don't pretend to be 'good' in any way and there is some shit on facebook, but at least it's just stupid, rather than being outright lewd and disgusting in every way possible.

I guess I have a good reason not to go anywhere near that cesspool.
