A few minutes ago I saw a similar thread asking people to list their top 10 favorite albums, so I'm curious about what are your favorite SONGS? After all, some albums are better as a whole, and don't necessarily have great stand-alone songs. I'll start us off:
What about you guys?
1. Morning Theft - Jeff Buckley
Expect to see Jeff a lot on this list. The beautiful lyrics in this song really get to me.
2. I Know We Could Be So Happy Baby (If We Wanted To Be) - Jeff Buckley
Hehe, told you. This song isn't really for everyone, but the insistent percussion and haunting vocals get under my skin. The poor audio quality somehow enhances the atmosphere.
3. Idioteque - Radiohead
I'm not a huge fan of Kid A for the most part, but this is the shining moment of that album IMO. There is something beautifully trancelike to this song that I can't quite pin down.
4. Neighborhood #3 (Power Out) - Arcade Fire
This is definitely one of the hardest songs Arcade Fire ever produced, and it ROCKS. As always with AC, the lyrics are fantastic, and the vocals are exuberant.
5. Grace - Jeff Buckley
This is the next to last Buckley song on the list, and it's probably the most popular. I absolutely adore the lyrics to this song, which talk about how love makes death lose its sting.
6. Hurt - Johnny Cash
The best cover ever recorded by far. It takes a Nine Inch Nails song that was overwrought to begin with, and turns it into an absolute masterpiece.
7. Lover, You Should've Come Over - Jeff Buckley
Ok, THIS is the last Buckley song on the list. This one makes the cut due to the absolutely fantastic vocals, achingly romantic lyrics, and sweet ending.
8. Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon and Garfunkel
The prettiest song Paul Simon ever wrote, "Bridge" is the apex of their career (Great praise considering they also wrote "America", "The Boxer", and "The Sound of Silence".)
9. Gotta Knock a Little Harder - The Seatbelts
Wow. Just wow. Cowboy Bebop really did have an amazing soundtrack. This soulful masterpiece is my favorite part of it for sure. See you, space cowboy.
10. Carry On Wayward Son - Kansas
Maybe a bit sentimental on my part, but this song has a lot of memories attached to it for me.
