I don't consider myself a diehard fan of the series, but I have played a pretty ridiculous number of games in the series. I've done 1, 2, 2 DLC that I got for free, half of 3, Black Flag, and Unity. I just started the China one and I like it a lot so far. I'll probably hold out to play Syndicate until it's cheap or maybe just skip it entirely (London never really interested me that much as a location). I didn't think Unity was that bad (wasn't that good either) and it worked as a demo to see how impressive graphics could be on my new PS4 at the time. I feel like Black Flag was the best so far. Are there any other gems in the series worth going back for? I would give Rogue a try if they'd only port it to the PS4 with better graphics. I also have a brand new Vita, but Liberation sounds like a nightmare to play.

I've played AC1, AC2, AC3, AC4, AC: Unity, and AC: Rogue. All on PC.

My favorite was AC3. I really don't like the lack of emphasis on the modern day conspiracy in Unity. Also, Unity had terrible temporary freezing issues on my PC. Haven't played Syndicate yet, since I'm waiting for PC release. (Also, I liked the walking simulator parts of AC4, but disliked the parts where I had to use boats and do pirate stuff. I DIDN'T SIGN UP FOR THIS, DARN IT!)

I've played AC1 and, knowing a little about the Crusades, I appreciated the attention to detail of the medieval Middle Eastern setting, but I quickly got bored with the gameplay, so I sold it again.
Then I tried AC2 and again liked everything based on real life Italian Renaissance, but again, the gameplay didn't grab me.

I've pretty much abandoned the series after that, since it just doesn't seem my thing beyond the historical stuff.

I might give AC4 a try if I can pick it cheaply in a sale. From what I've heard, it seems to be the odd one in the series with its focus on sailing, swashbuckling and naval combat.

I've played all of the main ones before Unity, though I didn't play any of them for very long. AssCreed 2 was the game that held me the longest but it just became tedious. AssCreed 3 and Black Flag got equally dull equally fast.

Most of my experience with this series comes from watching them being played by my Dad who is a big fan, so I at least got to see Unity's god awful issues at launch, and the mediocrity of Rogue. He hasn't bought Syndicate yet, though.

I've played 1, 2, Brotherhood, Revelations, and Black Flag and the Aveline DLC.

I kind of liked AC 1, to be honest, even though I will freely admit it's a glorified tech demo with some very little content thrown in to mask it.

AC 2 was a...mixed bag. The gameplay was mostly the same with some additions which was OK, but the setting rubbed me the wrong way in a lot of cases. I still managed to finish the game but I liked 1 better.

Brotherhood and Revelations were just more of the same again with some additions. Having your own assassins was cool and I liked it but I don't think the changes in Revelations were really that interesting - I pretty much never used the bombs aside from the places I had to (because tutorials). The hook thingie I only used when climbing because it's pretty hard not to, but I don't think I used it in combat.

Black Flag I played just about a month ago and it was awesome. After finishing all of AC 2 I wasn't exactly sure I wanted to do more assassining since I pretty much had my fill, but I heard Black Flag was good so I waited for quite a while before I played it. It blew me away - it was more open-world-y, I guess, and less stuffed in a city where you had to stab people. From premise alone, I wasn't sure I'd like it as much - AC but the main character is pirate? Meh, I thought. But now Edward Kenway is my favourite character in an AC game, as well.

The Aveline DLC...eh, it happened, I suppose. I would not suggest playing it, really - I only did it out of morbid curiosity, but it's not really that good. Really short and really straight forward - it's pretty much the exact opposite of the other games.

Do give it a go if you have the chance. As I said above, I found it really fun - the gameplay is different, for sure. Well, occasionally, you do go in a city and have to stalk people in the streets but most of the game is you sailing to various islands and doing other stuff.

I've played Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed II (+ DLC) and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. All on PS3.
My experience with the series has been a good one. I think of the second entry as the "nominal" AC game, righting a lot of wrongs from the first but not quite capturing the original appeal. Black Flag is the better, more fun game of the three, even if it's because it's the most unlike a "nominal" AC game.

1 and 2. And then I was holding out for 3 but by time 3 came along I had caught on to Ubisofts annualized game and was very displeased with the route Ass Creed 3 had been taken. That was supposed to be Desmond's game. The Animus was supposed to be done! And you know...not a fan of how the series has veered even further and further away from stealth rather than tightening it up and becoming a better assassinating game.

And you know now here we are. The games are heartless, and a cynical cash grab and I want nothing to do with it.

1, 2 and, 3. Kinda haven't tried 4 yet but out of the three I've played I've only played through the first two until the end. AC3 just rubbed me entirely the wrong way and I never really liked how from AC2 on the game chastised you for killing civilians for the fun of it.

::WARNING: THIS PERSON DIDN'T MURDER CIVILIANS::

Fuck you, this is a game and I'm trying to have some fun you joyless codpiece. Besides, maybe this FICTIONAL CHARACTER was a psychotic stabber-of-people; we don't even remember Elvis Presley's preferred Fried Chicken recipe so how can you tell me Ezio De-dah-dee-dum didn't spontaneously stab fifty people in Venice for no good reason?

I've played the first and fourth games. Neither interested me, and I couldn't be arsed to keep on going. Dunno why, but this I find particular franchise dull.

Just Assassins Creed 1. Also Watch Dogs which seems to be in the same universe if you want to count that. Of course I played Assassins Creed like 7 years ago and I only played a third of it. I've often considered trying to get into the series but there's like a million games and a new one keeps coming out every year. That's a big investment. Not just in terms of money (although I have friends/siblings I could borrow some of the games off) but also notably in terms of time. Playing through the games would take a long time and I already have no shortage of other games I own that I want to play.

Tried playing 1 on PC didn't like it. Played 2, Brotherhood and Revealations on X-box 360. As well as 3 and Blackflag.

Forgot completely about Rogue. Avoided unity on X-bone because of the bugs. Kind of meh about Syndicate.

I had closure from a story perspective with 3 and Blackflag was the best game in the series I felt, but really when you were doing Pirate stuff rather than Assassin-y land stuff.

Every game but Syndicate, Rogue, and Unity[footnote]I own it, but haven't really played it. I am playing the game now though.[/footnote]

Best game by far is Black Flag. It dropped the whole Templar and Assassin plot for "you are a pirate" plot. Ship combat was amazing and plundering the seven seas was a total blast. The first game has to be the weakest, as the entire game is do the same type of intel missions, then eventually kill one guy.

I'm actually currently in the process of owning all of the games, I'm only missing Rogue, Syndicate, and the first game now. Thank the gods for the Ezio trilogy.

I've completed 1, 2, and brotherhood. I've played Revelations but never finished it, and I recently played Black Flags but haven't beaten it yet.

I am a bit interested in playing Syndicate, though. I'm not completely tired of the formula yet.

I feel like I'm a weird person cause the only Assassin's Creed games I've played is Bloodlines and Chronicles: China. and both of those games seem very different to what Assassin's Creed is supposed to be

That's the exact opposite of my experience. I have only played 4 and its 2 attached dlc things with Aveline and Adewale. I loved Steady Eddie's Pirate Adventure but had very little interest in hacking my coworkers' computers.

I had skipped all previous installments of the series because it felt like a huge time investment catching up on three core games plus whatever side-games were out at the time. And the series as a whole looked VERY repetitive to me. My buddy said I could ignore the meta-game plot since it only made a brief appearance in Black Flag anyway; the first trilogy was almost self-contained.

So, I played 4 and loved the pirate stuff. I liked the freerunning and 'playing in the sandbox' but HATED the eavesdropping missions. Overall, I liked AC4 best when it wasn't acting like the rest of the series and hated the parts that are the trademark of the franchise (from what I've seen of it, at least).

Played- (humbly declaring all of these as OPINION)
AC1 on PC: Loved it, the parkour/climbing elements, combat moves, assassinations and pulling off a clean kill job and escaping were the best parts of it. Still my favorite of them all.

AC2 on X360: Enjoyed it, though for some reason preferred Altair to Ezio. Very enjoyable game, assassination jobs still well orchestrated though the combat lost some of its brutal edge. Some interesting mechanics to keep fighting challenging, fun getting the upgrades and extra cool moves/weapons. Probably the best of the series, though not my favorite.

AC3 on PC: Played to completion of story and a few side quests. Found it dull as dishwater. Main character is less interesting than watching paint dry. Side quests tedious. Story tedious. Hunting and farmville mini-games tedious. History at least somewhat interesting. ALL SENSE of assassinations GONE. Just run up to target and cut the bastard. End. Last AC game I played, and last game I ever will unless they at least put the "assassin" back into "assassin's creed".

Every one before unity other than the psvita game. I've kind of burned out on the series. Been playing Black Flag, which is fun because you get to break upo assassin stuff with naval stuff. Didn't finish 3 because it was stupidly boring. Loved AC2 and Brotherhood, didn't hate Revelations as much as other people, but didn't love it either. Never finished 1 because it is boooooring.

I only went as far as AssCreed Brotherhood. I keep telling myself I'll play them all some day, but every year this becomes more and more unlikely, given how often they release a new one.

Most people seem to hate it, but I really like the first game.
