I just finished "Call for the Dead" by John Le Carre. Sorta spy mystery. Love it, thinking about reviewing it (but we've had a few book reviews lately so I'm waiting).

I personally think this is one of the strongest Watch stories, all the characters are really well formed and you get to move away from Ankh-Morpork. Lots of additional back-story for some characters, also Igor!

I just reread my favourite book of all time, The Last Templar by Raymond Khoury. Right now I'm reading The Geneva Deception by James Twining.

I'd also recommend The Electric Church and The Digital Plague by Jeff Somers. (I've not read his other two books yet)

My cousins book is also awesome. Priceless by Charlie Daniels. About her life as a prostitute. She went on to become the most powerful prositute in Britain....

The gripping hand by Larry Niven.
It's not as good as the first, but it's still a really good book.

Beyond the Shadows by Brent Weeks. Think Assassins Creed.

It's the last book of the Night Angel Trilogy, and I've nearly finished it. Amazing books!
I've read and own all of those, they are in my top 5 favourite series of all time, he writes fight scenes so well, and really captures the emotion of it. :) Good choice!
I took the second book when I went into town with my friends the other day, I was that gripped. Did some sneaky reading under the table in Starbucks.

The Philosopher's Toolkit, by Julian Baggini and Peter S. Fosl.

It's mostly stuff I already know, but it's a nice refresher and mind sharpener.

Agreed agreed a thousand times agreed. but not just assasins creed think assasins creed meets the belgariad with a hint of a song of ice and fire

which segways nicely to the book I'm reading now: A feast for crows book 4 of ASoIaF. awesome, viscious deep and utterly enthralling!

EDIT:
I have just joined the Fantasy Fanatics User Group here at the escapist and this looks liek a likely channel to farm recruits. The Escapist doesnt do enough on literature when I think it is one of the greatest forms of escapism. I think that is when a book proves how good it is, when you want to read when you are in a situation when you really wouldn't want to read.
About a year and a half ago I went to japan and bought a book for the plane, called The Immortal Prince by Jennifer Fallon. I set aside time when i was in another country to read this book, and wanted to go home early upon finishing it, because i HAD to read the next one (i didnt attempt to but the thought was there.)
Jennifer Fallon is now my favourite author.

Great trilogy, get the extra short stories when you can, they're pretty good. (Lyra's Oxford & Once upon a time in the north)

OT: Im currently reading 'Dragon Keepers' by Robin Hobb in preparation for the recently released sequel 'Dragon Haven'.
