What can Mass Effect 3 do to be better than its predecessors?

Aside from getting a new side mechanic other than Planet Scanning and Bumper Car Rovers. Now, I know there are people who favor 1 over 2, or vice versa, I happen to be in the Mass Effect 2 camp. But since both games were so astounding, I'm just wondering how in the hell BioWare can top them (Especially musically). Discuss.

Be a fucking RPG.

I know inventory management was a pain in ME1, and ME1 was already light on the RPG elements, but ME2 dumbed it all down to shooter levels.

Bioware, inventory management only sucked because you gave us so much shit that we had to stop every 15 minutes and clean out the inventory. Just give us a bit less stuff.

Or the pet from Torchlight. The one who would go to town and sell your items for you. Because let's face it, converting to Omni-Gel was discarding, since Omni-Gel was nearly useless.

And don't give me this "RPGs are about role-playing" bullshit.

Have Mordin Solus sing Never Gonna Give You Up. Just give it more and deeper dialogue, and more characters. Not that it's not good in that regard anyway, but it could always be better.

Personally, I'd say Mass Effect 2 was as much of an RPG as Mass Effect 1, but that's a debate for another thread.

OT: Since this is the conclusion to the trilogy, I don't want an entirely new cast of characters for my squad, I don't want full-length loyalty missions (though character specific or race specific would be nice), I want the majority of the focus to be on the Reaper plot (also probably the political side of things), and I want my decisions in the last two games to affect the outcome.

And...well, that's about it actually.

That's all they need. They could leave mechanics the exact same as 2 and I'd buy it in a heartbeat if he sang more.

I'd like to see an inventory system again and more item and weapon drops. It was always a great feeling to find the next level of shotgun or assault rifle and seeing how much more awesome it was the old one.

How about a spin-off? Rock Band: Mordin.

Not have a combat system that bores me. Seriously, it plays like any other third person shooter. Its boring. And why did you add a "snap to" cover system? The ME1 was nice, smooth, and easy to use. And it frees up a button.

Also, bring back the elevators. Yes they were annoying, but they were a lot less immersion breaking than loading screens.

Also this. Same with the inventory system. You didn't need to get rid of it entirely, just make it a lot less annoying. The PC version managed to do that just fine.

Also, for the PC port, don't bind 3 major actions to one damn key. You bound sprint, take cover, and activate to one key. I can see why you'd do that on the console(what with small amount of buttons on the controller) but on the PC there is no excuse.

I would love to be able to customize my companions, like I customize Shepard.

Like say I buy a helmet for Shepard then each member of my crew can equip a similar helmet, same with the armours.

I would also like to see more powers for each class. ME3 is gonna have to be huge in plot and scale so more things to play with would be great.

Oh and companions talk more/being able to talk to them in the field like in ME1.

Okay I think thats it.

I want my Mako back. I never got all the complaints about its handling, I handled it no trouble at all on the 360. It was just about the most fun I'd ever had in a game, certainly better than the planet scanning that for some reason didn't get dropped from ME2 at an early stage.

Just less minigames. Or none. Hacking, bypassing, and planet scanning didn't add anything to the experience. They just interrupted the flow of the game. That's my only suggestion. Everything else, I think Bioware is headed in the right direction.

Well, better friendly AI. But I can say that about any game.

See, this is a common misconception about the ME1 system, due to there being many models of weapon, people think they had more weapons. There were 4. You had an assault rifle, a sniper rifle, a pistol, and a shotgun. The next upgrade may bring more damage or less heat to the table, but you had 4 weapons for the game essentially.

In ME2, (nearly) every weapon acted in a completely different fashion from every other weapon. Rate of fire, ammo capacity, accuracy levels, damage capability, semi-auto, burst fire, full auto, bolt-action, you had a different weapon for every situation, and they all felt like they had a point and were fun to use. I really hope they keep this thread of thinking for 3.

I would definitely second the limiting of new character introductions. They have enough that they don't need to go any deeper, unless the characters are related to some of the existing cast I suppose.

I don't think that having an economy was worthwhile and much preferred the researching upgrades approach rather than having to buy weapons. Working for Cerberus or the Alliance should mean that you shouldn't have to PAY for weapons OR ammo.

Researching upgrades was a nice touch, as was finding technology on missions and adding it to the research chain, which unfortunately, meant that enemies could really only drop one thing as a reward... ammo. It's a tough situation. How do you reward your player with item drops without introducing an economy for them?

Well I am in the camp that feels ME2 built upon the foundations laid by ME1 and did so rather well. Sure the planet-scanning is about as much fun as eating lit matches and I must be the only person who seemed to like the Mako (once I'd got to grips with it).

Project Firewalker was a step in the right direction. I'd like the ability to go down to random planets and hunt around for stuff again (to use on upgrades), as in ME1 but maybe the Firewalker could be a replacement for the Mako? Just a thought.

Having to keep hitting "Shift" to see my waypoint marker really knackered the flow at times so I would like to call for the return of the permenant "radar" from ME1 too. Please god keep the inventory management or, if you must bring it back, whittle it down some! Nothing was more annoying and tedious than getting rid of all the useless guns and equipment every 5 minutes.

I am very intrigued to see where they go from here. Several members of the crew will have moved-on for sure do to other commitments (Samara) and lack of giving a shit (Jack). Working for you-know-who was a totally unexpected and bold move but a good one and where everyone stands in ME3 is something I can't begin to work out. Sadly I get the feeling that the Council will ignore the Reaper threat (again) and all hell will break loose. Any battles up until now will look like a couple of fleas lighting their own farts compared to what the end of ME2 alludes to (I'm doing my best to avoid spoilers here).

One thing I insist BioWare do is, if they keep the romance options, do decent bloody sex-scenes! I'm not looking for full on porn but the ones in ME2 were lamer than alcohol-free beer! At least the scenes in ME1 were slightly alluring if nothing else...give us bare boobs / arse at least - stick an 18-label on it and tell the kids / kneejerk journalists to piss off!

Also, it's fairly obvious to anyone with any sense at all that The Illusive Man is not what he seems at all. I do have a theory but I don't wanna voice it here because of the spoiler-potential.

Keep Garrus. This point is not negotiable!

There's not much else I can think of. Oh yeah! Whoever thought of the 5-round-burst-firing assault rifle and gave it a 24-round clip (which, as you may notice, is not a multiple of 5) should have his/her work double-checked in future.

PS Did anyone else feel that the ability to direct a tiny Normandy around the system maps to be utterly pointless?

1. Abolish mining for rescources. Have the player gather whatever they need over the course of the game. (Doing side-quests and the like)
2. Better side-quests. I think this speaks for itself.
3. Bigger missions. ME1 had fewer, longer missions. I liked those. ME2 has more, shorter missions. I enjoyed some of them, but the ones in ME1 were just more epic. So they should find a middle ground between the two.
4. Stop making me walk all around the ship just to talk to people. Can't I call them into my office or something? That would make things a lot easier, though maybe that's the point.
5. Sure, bring back some RPG elements. Personally, I don't really mind the dumbing-down of ME2, but I wouldn't mind it being a little more complex. As long as the inventory isn't as cluttered as ME1, I'll be happy.
6. More discernible villain. Saren=Good. Sovereign=Good. Collectors=Bad.(It's hard to have a personal hatred for an entire race) Harbinger=Bad. Except for his eargasmic voice. (It's hard to fear or hate someone you routinely set on fire and kill. Especially when all he does is lob generic threats at you.)
7. Don't make me go full-renegade or full-paragon in order to win.(i.e, get my entire crew out alive. Morality should not be black and white.)
8. Elcor or Hanar crew member. I don't care how, just make it happen.

Beaten to it. Nothing else is required. But indeed, more Mordin signing would be just what the doctor ordered!

Otherwise, all I ask for is something not quite as tedious as planet-scanning for resource gathering, but at the same time, not quite as...er, tedious as scooting around in the Mako.

More hub worlds would be nice, the only ones we really got were The Citadel in ME1, Citadel/Omega/Illium in ME2.

A few more wouldn't hurt.

Also secret characters, not plot-provided, like Yuffie and Vincent, not obligatory but add more to the plot if obtained.
