They're going to listen to the fans when they yell at the tops of their voices "this don't work" , just like they did with Mass Effect 2.
Here's looking forward to a well-crafted and satisfying game.

More exploration if it can be done in a meaningful way.
Better vehicle sections (aka LotSB) + no more mining.

No universal cooldown on abilities, but instead cooldowns on every separate ability (like in ME1), clips are good.

Have companions wear logical costumes when in extreme conditions (no more bras in space), but retain the cleavage somehow :D

Smoother combat and more interesting bosses.

Tie the whole thing into one coherent storyline about the Reapers, with companion storyline being secondary in the third instalment.

Extra Credits talked about this
I know. I was just copying what they said. I've actually never played Mass Effect. :) Go figure.

I've just bought KOTOR on Steam though, so we'll see how that goes.

While I agree that the game doesn't really lack for characters, I think for plot purposes Mass Effect 3 desperately needs a Batarian character. The geth and the krogan were the galaxy's dicks but in the first 2 games we got characters which really helped us understand and rethink them as a species. In Mass Effect 2 the Batarians shot to the fore as galactic assholes. Having a batarian crewmember could likewise help us rethink them as a species and could also help provoke thought on slavery and caste systems.

There have been many points raised that I agree with, such as the mining being bad (personally I found it to be the single worst thing about ME2). I also think that the combat of ME2 was vastly superior to that of ME1 etc. However as these are points that have already been brought up numerous times I'll move on to something which I haven't seen mentioned yet:

More opportunities to use the full roster of characters in a single mission. Whilst I was playing through the final parts of ME1 I found it bizarre that despite the fact that we were throwing everything we had into the fray, only two of your team could accompany you whilst the others presumably stayed on the Normandy twiddling their thumbs. ME2 handled this much better but still not brilliantly as despite Shepard being the commander, game mechanics still limited him to only 2 squad-members resulting in the unrealistic scenario of a 'deputy' commander actually commanding more people than Shepard! Nevertheless I think it was a step in the right direction and I'd love to see more situations where you can set-up extra squads that pursue their own objectives in parallel to your own (similar to the final mission of ME2).

Personally I'd love it if before a climactic battle in ME3 you could split your team into 3 squads of 3, selecting who goes in which squad as well as which of the 3 is the squad leader and having each of these squads performing different but related objectives in support of each other. In other words what we had at the end of ME2, but more detailed and something occuring at various points throughout the game instead of just at the end (though such events should still be infrequent and certainly you shouldn't use everyone at once until the end).

Get Khalisah Al-Jilani to beat the shit out of Commander Shepherd.
Three way with Wrex, Grunt, and female Shepherd.
Don't show Tali's face.
That is all.

Mix things up a bit. Don't have the cluster fuck of inventory from ME1 but don't have the meesly piece of crap that was ME2. Make it like ME2 inventory but with more variety still.

More armor and less of the whole Paragon/Renegade crap. Let US decide, Moral choice systems are really annoying me now.

Mix up exploration a bit instead of having a streamlined box environment of side missons that ME2 had. I want what ME1's exploration was like, but with larger, more detailed enrionments and a better vechicle.

Get rid of the fucking ammo thing. Seriously why has noone said this? Plus make it feel more I dunno consistent? Like ME2 felt like a stringing together of random events rather than a consistent galaxy.

Did you guys see the DLC vehicle sections for ME2? I guess most of you didn't. They're AWESOME!!! I hope to see more of those in ME3, only with saves possible inbetween the flying..

Yes lets take away one of the main selling points of Mass Effect, that certainly won't piss of any fans.

Less run-here-gun-that and more variety in the missions more trying to charm/intimidate information out of your target like Samara's mission or assassinations/stalking like Thane's mission or arena things like Grunt's missions.

Most of the time the game was so linear it felt really small, oh and sidequests should have more impact and not just be as in yahtzee's words "somebody wearing a different coloured hat"

1. Keep the weapon inventory from ME2, add the upgrade system from ME1. Ditto with armour. Make more of each.

2. Do not make persuade/intimadate based soley on morality. It makes no sense. Something more like Dragon Age, where you could upgrade speaking skill and bolster it with personal stats would be better.

3. Remove the stupid shield system blocking all biotic and tech powers from doing anything. Make it more relevant, eg. barriers stop biotics, shields stop tech powers, not everything stops everything.

4. Keep biotic charge. People who claim the game is generic 3rd person shooter have no imagination. Playing a vanguard? Get in the enemies face. Playing an infiltrator? Take shotgun speciality and use cloak to flank enemies. You get the picture.

5. Get rid of the hacking mini-games. Please. If you must keep something, make it more believable, eg. let Tali break the safe while you do something else.

6. Less generic missions. I loved the missions in ME2 which required less/no fighting, such as Samara's loyalty.

7. Less companions. ME1's number was great, talking to them all after each mission was pleasant. In ME2, when you had about 10, it became a chore. Also, no copy & paste 'loyalty' system. It got annoying. Also, give them some relationships between them. A romance between 2 other crew members could be fun to resolve. Do you steal one and earn the wrath of the other? Do you tell them romance is forbidden on the ship? So many possibilities...

8. Please give companions reasonable outfits. Jack, wandering around in a vacuum wearing only cargo pants, boots, a breather and belts is just stupid. Especially when people are shooting at your unguarded skin.

9. I liked Firewalker. Return some level of Mako sections, with this vehicle. Only make it slightly more resiliant to the mysterious homing bullets enemies seem to possess. When it takes (very literally) 1 minute of constant shooting to take down an enemy (on insanity) and they can return the favour in 3 seconds, the only real combat strategy was to hide behind a wall and sent out homing missiles. This is not fun.

10. Heat sinks. Please bioware. You claim they are universal, yet you can run out with one gun and still have some in the other. Let them cool down, ME1 style. When they overheat, you replace them, ME2 style. You can carry 30, they can go into any gun. Easy :)

Hmm... so many complaints... but I love Mass Effect so much!

Remove the over emphasized FPS elements from 2 and keep the improvements on 1. Ammo clips are stupid why would you go infinite ammo to finite ammo for a weapon? More ability to explore! I want my character options dammit!

Never played 1, ME 2 combat was boring and repetitive. The scanning planets for upgrades was stupid. Just give me the damn upgrade when I find it or put it on a "research" timer like in xcom, where after each mission you finish researching an upgrade.

The conversation system and the renegade/paragon actions were awesome though. The ME 2 story was lame compared to Kotor.

Be a fucking RPG.

I know inventory management was a pain in ME1, and ME1 was already light on the RPG elements, but ME2 dumbed it all down to shooter levels.

Bioware, inventory management only sucked because you gave us so much shit that we had to stop every 15 minutes and clean out the inventory. Just give us a bit less stuff.
Well, this for starters.

Also threesomes. =3

Give me back my inventory management.

I loved the follow the button in the first one to do things in game.

Lemme pull out the sniper rifle in town.

Make the environments bigger. ME2 felt SMALL

Also, make Biotics useful on anything other than easy.

I'm not sure what the complaints mean when they say 'Be an RPG'.

Because it's usually followed by 'the inventory system...' and I have to say; fuck going back to that noise. ME1 was a pain in the ass because of the inventory and because the Mako missions didn't have clear driving routes. (I mean, I got the hang of it at the end but it was still a drag.)

So; keep the inventory system as is.

As for the combat; it's a game set in space where people have guns. Lots of guns. I'm not sure what other combat options you're looking for (although I haven't played Engineer class yet so who knows, maybe that's wildly different.) ME1 also had lots of guns-and that was pretty much how enemies were fought + defeated. Yes, there are biotic powers but everyone still had guns.

I'm not saying there shouldn't be variance, I'm asking the people who complain; what else are you expecting? I mean; I get you didn't like it but what RPG qualities should it have had that it didn't?

I also found the combat in ME2 to be smoother so chalk me up as a fan-I just don't understand what should be put in its place, given the subject matter.

Bring back the elevator load screens. They were fun, occasionally funny, gave an opportunity to gain insight into characters and better than what replaced them.

Remember that not everyone has a HDTV and that squinting is not a fun way to deal with reading text you need to play a game.

Remember that any task you're going to make players do needs to be either a) very short or b) mixed up in the task department. Good examples of a) Hacking. Good examples of b) missions. Bad examples; mining. If you want upgrades (and to find some missions), you have to do it and this task is neither brief nor mixed up.

So either make up a mini-game with enough depth to do over and over again (I'm thinking the card game from FF8) or stick to short-burst events and longer ones.

Otherwise, I've enjoyed both games.
You're my new hero, said everything I wanted to.

Have Mordin Solus sing Never Gonna Give You Up.
That's all they need. They could leave mechanics the exact same as 2 and I'd buy it in a heartbeat if he sang more.
How about a spin-off? Rock Band: Mordin.
Bioware, fuck mass effect 3, this HAS to be a game.
