We've all hit a rut so we know what its like to mess up, but we ultimately improve ourselves to be a better person. Unless of course your the Sonic team, which in that case, you've been on the No-Student-Left-Behind program for the last decade.

At least the Duke Nuk'em Team just teases us with the slim possibility that the game they've been stalling with will be alright. The Sonic Team can't even give their mascot a good or 'okay' Sonic game. If I had my way I'd smack their hands away from the keyboard and write the story myself. However because I am the most humble man on Earth (joke) I want to hear from my fellow gamers what YOU think will save the Sonic franchise. (Note: No posts asking for a GOOD GAME that isn't helpful.)

Please give a real response state your idea and give your reason.
For example:
The story right now is like a Where's Waldo book, but your wearing a blind fold. You gotta find a story/background for your leading blue mammal and STICK WITH IT. You had a pretty good click going when it was 'save the woodland critters' stop putting humans in the game.

OR

Stop trying to put useless characters into his games. Instead, if your not going to axe them then give them their own game that doesn't have Sonic involved. Especially Knuckles and Chaotix. The rest can croak, but for the sake of your dedicated fans stop adding more characters.

Share your thoughts
(Authors Note: Yes I have watched all of the GameOverthinker's episodes on Youtube so please don't tell me about the episodes concerning Sonic. I want to hear YOUR opinion, not someone else's.)

Having a story based on the SatAm show rather than whatever half-baked idea goes into Sonic Team's head.

Focusing on using speed as a central gameplay element instead of a way to get from point A to point B.

I think Sonic should also be on-rails. Because when curves enter the equation, the camera goes to shit because it can't possibly keep up.

Those are some of my thoughts, at least. I'm sure more dedicated Sonic fans can think of something better.

Well considering nearly all of the 2D games were great I would start there, but if they must move to the 3rd dimension they should use Adventure 2 Battle as an example of how to do it right. (I know a lot of people didn't like having the tales/knuckles modes but I enjoyed them as a nice break of pace)

Every single animal ever has bene used in the Sonic series. The only way to save him in my opinion is have a 3D version of Sonic 2. Like little big planet.

The HELL it isn't. That's all we want. A new Sonic game like the old 2d ones or one like the original (Or second) Sonic Adventure. AKA An actually good game.

Sonic needs to die by a stake through his heart, a stake the size of the washington monument.

They should look back at Sonic, Sonic 2 and 3, and repeat that, almost exactly, with HD graphics and some voice acting, then release it online rather than blu-ray/dvd as the game would take about an hour to complete...

hahaha, no no no. I just want to hear a more specific thought. A "good game" has been used up too many times before and I'm sure we all can see how well that has done.

Make Bioware create more Sonic games.

If I remember correctly, Bioware made a 3D RPG Sonic game and I heard it was quite good.

Edit: Oh, and those videos above me.

Get rid of every supporting character, and make it 2D (or 3D like Adventure) are the only ways I can think of.

Well, a "Kill the Hedgehog" Game starring Sonic would be popular, people would love to kill him so it would technically be making games with him that people would like.

i think we should drop sonic completely but let the franchise continue with Tails games instead. they will be in 2,5D and let it be easier and more satisfying to headstomp enermies. (play the flashgame "fancypants adventures 2" to understand what i mean)

i think it should become a hand held exclusive... that way the bar for good game is lower, it can go back to 2D with out people complaining that its a waste of... console...stuffage, and you could play it on the bus!

Bob is a great guy. I've watched his videos and listened to his opinions on how Sonic can be saved. However I want to hear from other gamers what they think can be done. I know Bob already beat me to it and they are one of my favorite videos from him.

Especially killing the cast like Shadow the BIGGEST-VILLAIN-CLICHE-OF-GAMING-Hog and Cream the useless rabbit.

Euthanasia will set him free. As will a bullet between the eyes. The only thing that can save him now is mercy... :,(

Oh well, to be serious, perhaps he could return to 2D, or this so called "2.5D" of the current generation. And it needs to be less about boss fights, more about speeding along a linear, but flashy straight and around a few rings. The multiple pathways and multiple endings of shadow the hedgehog confused the hell out of me.

I played that, because I placed my trust in Bioware. The dialogue and pacing were actually good, but the turn-based battles used touch-screen QTEs to operate. It also had no replay and there was no incentive to complete any side-missions.

OT: Something like my favourite game of all time - Sonic Adventure 2.

Make a good 2D Sonic game. That's what had us pulled in the first time.
Either that, or they should give up on him.

"Genesis got what Nintendon't", and that's a franchise that's still good.

Hope in WABACK machine and go back 20 years.

Seriously, the game was based on the shallow premise of run to the end fast. That worked back then but it doesn't cut it by today's standards. Either make Sonic do retro games (like MegaMan 9) or they'll going to have to reinvent him to be appealing in a modern game and that is very hard.
