The question is in the title , what class did you start as in Dark souls? And what do you think about your class? And what weapon do you prefer to use? And what special item did you chose at the begining?

There's already a thread up discussing your initial thoughts on the game so no need to post that here , this thread is just about the class you chose .

I started as a bandit . I never played Demon's souls so i knew little about any of the classes , so i thought that the bandit didn't sound to bad . I was wrong. Having gotten him to lvl 36 , i think he sucks lol . I really don't see anything special about him, but i had decided not to start over because i would considered that as a defeat and i don't want the game to beat me . As for the weapon i prefer to use axes or great axes , the range is nice when i take a swing.

I started as a knight, and it was alright but then I decided it would be interesting to check out the mage.

So I played the mage and was unimpressed by his spell.

I went back to the knight and got to level 20 and rang the first bell. The lack of the spell seems worth it in exchange for the extra health and armor. Although my mage friend beat the tarturous demon and the black knight by simply climbing a ladder and shooting spells down, which seems like a nice cheap auto win condition for most bosses. So maybe spells would be worth it.

I started Thief, i use a combination of the Drake sword, and Pyromancy, but really starting classes dont matter that much.

Heh, yeah, tell him to try that strategy on the Gaping Dragon XD

As for me, Wanderer. Fast, but strong. Especially with a special ring I found that ups my equip load max by a HUGE chunk.

I absolutely love the class selection in this game. It's less "this is what you are" and more "here, take this push in the direction you want this character to go."

Change your mind half way through the game after putting more stats into something you weren't expecting to? Cool, whatevs. You're no longer a mage. You just have a decently powerful spell. Enjoy your massive armor and huge sword, you muscle-head, you.
