We all have those days. They seem to last longer than a day should last. They seem like torture to get through. And when night comes you can't wait to go to bed. One has come recently: I recently embarked on a 20-day trip to go on a summer to seven countries in Europe. However first I had to take a 8-hour flight from Hartsfield-Jackson (Atlanta) to London-Heathrow. So I had to wake up at 6:00 A.M. Eastern Time on Friday, get zero sleep on the flight over, drag my way through a rainy gray London on Saturday, and not being able to fall asleep until 12:30 A.M. on Sunday. So I was awake for over 40 straight hours, so technically it was long for being awake for almost two straight days. It was very much a means of personal torture. So, what days had you wish on for night to come the most?

I had a similar experience a few days ago, but not quite so extreme. Woke up at 7:00AM, flew out around 10:00AM, landed in the states eight hours later at 12:00PM (timezones woo), waited two hours for my connecting flight, got on my second flight around 3:00PM, flight got diverted a state away for an hour because of weather, landed in correct airport at 8:00PM, visited my mom around 9:00PM, got home around 10:00PM. Technically a thirty hour day for me.

Two events come to my mind-

One of the universities I got an interview to be enrolled at was quite a far away location and the trains route getting there wasn't direct. It took three stop to get there and back and it didn't help that one of the depart time was an hour or so wait. I set off around 9.30 and arrived back at 10pm which I was so greatful getting the trip back home since that was the last train trip. I dread to think if I had end up missing the last train trip back home...

Last Christmas, one of my worked time was from 6am to 6.15pm which is the longest shift I had ever done in a day at my job. I worked in retail so we all got more hours but that day was stock delivery day and a couple of people were off that day. For some reason the delivery truck was extra early that day so that way I had to get there at 6am.
I pretty much end up not getting alot of sleep beforehand so I was in a strange like state throughout that day. Needless to say the manager back then was quite a ***** as she decided to leave abit early (she was suppose to be there at 6 but left at 5.30) but thankfully the person in charge (the only time when he was nice to me) let me off at 6pm.
While I did sleep better that night however I end up being forced to wake up for another reason.

I sat in a chair in a hospital for eight hours once. I...don't know how I got through it. The only television in the room was showing Chinese programmes about people in Ming Dynasty gear flying around from tree branch to tree branch and twirling swords around in the air while sporting outfits that would make the avid TF2 player's eyes bleed. I just...don't know. The doctors must have given me some serious shit while I was out...

Jesus! 40 hours? I did that once, and I know I'm in no hurry for a repeat of the experience.

For me, it's the car rides to the mountain lodge my family stayed in when I was a kid. 8 hours of driving or more. It felt very, very long.

Anytime I find myself traveling for a giant part of the day. Car trips can be exceptionally draining despite literally sitting all day. Getting to your destination or getting home after a long trip is very satisfying.

First days of school back in elementary and high school always felt so incredibly long. By the end of the day I was always so glad to be out of class. Funny enough, most of those first days were shortened days, still felt like an eternity each time.

Whenever I listen to this song:

But seriously, it was the time I was waiting for my grandmother to come out of her breast cancer surgery a few years ago... Granted, the cancer wasn't that serious when she was getting treated, but she still had to go through, I think, quadrantectomy in the long run...
(It was also the time I found out how high the risk of breast cancer was on my mother's side of the family...)

On a more lighter note, the day every high school senior had to go through a standard interview as required to graduate that year... I was REALLY not a fan of wearing a suit that particular day...

I'd have to say, it was the weekend I spent in solitary confinement for no reason whatsoever, after being arrested for possession of THC on a Friday afternoon, which the police tried to overstep their authority and charge me with a felony for, which is what "necessitated" my weekend stay in jail to await going in front of a judge Monday morning in the first place (after they originally claimed they'd simply process me and release me after). What "necessitated" that entire time spent in solitary confinement was never explained (because fuck if the police will ever even attempt to justify a blatant abuse of authority unless they're absolutely forced to, which is pretty fucking rare, considering there's been multiple documented incidents in this country where they gang beat homeless people to death without provocation, all caught on video surveillance, and yet are exonerated of all charges), it was just where I was immediately put for no reason after processing. The charge was later dropped to a mere city ordinance violation, which is what the charge actually should have been in the first place, but God damn do I hate and mistrust police officers because of bullshit like that. And to top it all off, the one time my family actually needed the police department for something when a party was thrown at my mother's house and some jewelry was stolen, particularly some things handed down from my then recently deceased grandmother which had significant sentimental value, and we told them straight out who did it, they decided it wasn't worth their time to pursue and did absolutely nothing about it.

Really garners trust and confidence in the legal system, things like that. "To serve and protect" my fucking ass.

Captcha: Apparently, answering "no" to "are you planning to take a trip this winter" was the wrong answer. What the actual fuck?
The US like putting people in solitary confinement for no reason, it seems. IIRC, there was one guy they even totally forgot they locked up. Luckily someone found him before he starved to death.

About half a year I spent some time in the emergency room in the hospital. And well, let us say that they are not in a hurry there. For ten hours I laid around doing nothing at all. Since I had no phone, book, or really any ability to move at all.

Apparently it takes ten hours to get a translator over to tell me what the doctor is doing.. I am mute, not deaf, but whatever. >_<

Also, the treatment took 12 minutes, I counted. If you're in an emergency, pray to god you don't go to the emergency room.

Can't say for sure, but I had a very long day four days ago.
Went to bed at midnight last Friday since I had a 10+ hour shift at work the next day. Longest shift I had before was eight hours and the job is extremely physical, so I was very concerned I wouldn't be able to handle it. Two hours later I wake up to the sound of really loud music and people screaming "WUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUOOO" every time the songs ended. One hour later I had to give up trying to fall asleep again and felt wide awake. Decided to go up for a few hours and catch some sleep later. Around 7 am I was still feeling awake, but decided to take a power nap before it was time to leave for work.

Woke up 40 minutes later feeling sick and cold as fuck, like I was close to dying. Had no choice but to get to work.
The ten hour shift turned into a twelve hours and it was the hardest one I'd ever had, even if I had slept well.
My body still aches from that day.

Another strong contender would be when I gave my sister a ride home and back. It took 18 hours(drove 1430 km) and since it was in January it was pitch black most of that time and the rain was pouring down. Constantly thought I was going to make a mistake and drive off the highway. Didn't even know how the high beams worked on that damn car.

My actual longest day was on my way to the Escapist Expo in 2012. I got up for work at 6AM, worked normally that day but since I'd have to take the train to the airport at 4AM the next morning (so I'd need to get up at 3AM) I skipped the night. Several flights and layovers without sleep later we landed at RDU at around 10PM local (2AM my time). At 11PM we got our rental car, and since I was the only one who could drive I had to try and find our motel dead tired after being awake for 44+ hours.

More recently I had to get a check-up in the hospital. Then they wanted me to stay for a gastroscopy for which you have to be sober (no food or water), but they couldn't manage to get the appointment until 11AM the following day. Not being allowed to eat or drink(not even water, though I cheated a bit) for 25 hours is hell.
