ive been thinking about buying a new game for the PC, prefferably an FPS, maybe an RTS but for the life of me i dont know what to get. Ive got Crysis and UT3, both great but are beginning to get boring. I figure this is one of the best places to ask because i wont get flamed to hell for no reason and people here generally seem to not be gibbering monkeys...most of you anyway :p

So do tell
Orange Box I can definitely reccomend. As for an RTS, I've been thinking about getting world in conflict myself. It's supposed to be pretty good.

Orange box; team fortress II. Best online FPS out at the time in my opinion. So evenly balanced and fun.

Bioshock, Quake Wars: Enemy Territories, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., FEAR series.

I have to name one no one has. Rainbow Six: Vegas. It has the best cover system I've ever used, by far. Gears of War is sort of similar in the cover, but not nearly as good. I actually find it very arcade-y after playing Vegas. If you're tired of UT's endless run and gun (yes, that's my opinion) then you may wanna try this. I believe it's classed as a tactical shooter, meaning you have to THINK while you progress. Hard to beat Company of Heroes for RTS. There's a reason it scored higher than any other RTS in history. The Opposing Fronts standalone/xpac is a MUST if you like the original game. Oh and for the record, I hated all the old rainbow six titles and a friend had to talk me into trying this one. Pwns.

The cover system in gears is actually alot more worked out and less buggy then the one in Vegas, so I'm not sure why you'r saying that.

TF2 is... well I've never played it but I hear it's great as well.
I shall paraphrase what someone said about TF2 on another forum.

"How can you not like TF2? It's moved beyond the opinion, and it is now a FACT that TF2 is awesome."

Seriously, whoever doesn't have this game should get it right this very instant.

id love to play more TF2 but the 360 lag with it is unbearable, i think i may have to cry in response to the sheer evilness of lag.

i reckon ill have a look at R6 vegas, never tried one of the R6 games.

I thought Vegas was decent, but didn't use the cover system at all. Frankly I don't see the point in a FPS - if you want to go to cover just go. The AI was better than most. One thing I noticed is its slow speed; once I finished it and returned to Counterstrike I got owned. Brothers In Arms 2 sucked monkey balls; avoid it. I loved the F.E.A.R. series personally, the original much more than the expansion. Also, I don't think anyone mentioned it, but Swat 4 and its expansion are supposed to be pretty good; I picked up both at Big Lots for $4 each but haven't loaded them yet. (I also haven't loaded COD4, Crysis, Prey, and Stalker. I won't need anything for awhile!)
