So with all the (well deserving) hate oozing out of the internet in the direction of MS and the Xbone, let's change the discussion up a bit. What did the Xbone get right?

This is a no hate Xbone thread (even though it sucks).

So my thoughts... The 500g hard drive and, um... possibly the "more powerful" processor.

This should probably be in Gaming Discussion.

OT: I'd say it has offered us a very compelling argument to migrate to PC gaming! XD

It was the best advertisement for the PS4 I've ever seen?

Hmm...uh...I honestly cannot think of anything.
Oh oh! They have Call of Dut-HAHAHAHAAHA!!!

Sorry. I can't finish that sentence.
They did nothing correct in terms of wanting to get me to buy one.

I am at best, met with apathy and ambivalence, and at worst, outright revulsion.

Oh boy, this is thread is going to get overflown by sarcasm...
OT: well, it's good to see Jim more than once a week. Collarduty twitter account is pure awesomeness. I got a real laugh reading all the reactions to that announcement.

They actually showed the current model of the console, something that people were wishing to see during the PS4 reveal. That's got to count for something.

I think it appeals to a niche. Like the Wii went after casuals with great success, I think the Xbox one has enough techno features that it will appeal to a tech-savvy, but not necessarily gaming audience. My brother loves Call of Duty, has a dozen or so fantasy sports teams, and between him and his roommates have like 5 TVS in their basement. This product probably appeals to that demographic.

The weakness of this next-gen consoles is that they are pretty much redundant. Smart phones, tablets, and cheap computers are eating away at the mass appeal a console has, so consoles had to evolve. This is Microsofts gambit- that essentially the dude-bro is the future of console gaming (I dont think it was a good move).

In all serious, as much as MS have probably screwed this up as much as possible, they've actually probably still won the console wars.

Firstly, they've got specs good enough to compete but not the most powerful. Which is the best because you can make the console for cheaper but the game difference isn't enough to make people go for the other console (as the PS3 demonstrated and history in general)

Secondly, they're associating their console with CoD. There's a chance the average CoD gamer won't realise the PS4 will have it too and either way, people will think of the Xbox as the CoD console.

So whilst they're offering a cruddy product and had a cruddy conference, what they did right is, probably win the console wars (unless the Kinect stuff is so expensive compared to the Move stuff that the prices are jacked up sky high. Or the general public suddenly becomes way more informed and opinionated about their minor inconsequential stress relief hobbies)

It's the new water cooler.
Tellum for president 1337.

...Nothing I could think of. I guess you could say it sets an example as to what you shouldn't do when making a game console.

Well that have gotten a massive amount of free advertising from it.

I think that niche has actually grown into a majority over the last few years. Think of how well all the sports games, cod, halo, gears, etc are selling compared to everything else.

Er... I guess I am legitimately excited as a Halo fan to see what Stephen Spielberg can do with a Halo TV series (although does that really count as it's nothing to do with the console itself?).

Other than that... I have literally nothing. It was the absolute worst tech reveal I have ever seen. It made 'Giant Enemy Crab-Gate' look masterful in comparison, and after the lackluster PS4 reveal and lukewarm response to the Wii-U's release had set the bar so low as well. It was like it was actively trying to disappoint.

Its specs are decent, but not any better then the PS4

so there's that.. it's not actually a paperweight

other then that though, so far, not much.

This only holds water when to assume that everybody who enjoys sports games, Call of Duty, Halo and Gears of War are "dude-bro's". This isn't a wise thing to assume, for us or for the companies that sell the games.

As a side note, the term "dude-bro" has become a cartoon. An exaggerated parody of a demographic, rather than a demographic in itself. The term is nebulously overused without forethought, and it's getting really obnoxious.

The controller looks like it probably sits very comfortably in the hand. And I like the texturing on the analog sticks.

That's pretty much it. That's all the positive I got for the Xboned.

It's... certainly a thing and it certainly is happening.

I guess?

Yep, coming up with nothing. Nothing exclusive to the One, nothing that good about the One. I think if XBox One and the PS4 were knives, the PS4 would be a regular knife, and the XBox One would be the same exact knife but with a laser sight.

Whaaaat? The XBox One isn't a gaming console!
