To take a concept from moviebob, noticing that Avatar has the basic 'man goes native' story line does not make you observant.

Its a shame that people are too pretentious to get past this mediocre detail, and make some genuine insightful remarks about the film.

I thought the world that was created was brilliantly crafted. At times the imagery bordered upon the sublime, and there were some genuinly emotionally raw moments.

That and Weaver was in the typical naked foetal position that she seems to adopt in every film =) I am glad.

It was good, could've been better. Depite the story being stupidly overdone and cliché, this time it was done right, which I feel was a big advantage for this movie.
I would've loved some more "backstory" on the humans and earth, and know why it was so important for them to get this metal they wanted, and just have that in mind, so you could better understand all these actions they did. Because to me, the humans were just dickheads, without clear reasons for being so desperate and cruel towards the Na'vi.
Instead 80% of the focus was on how Sully and Neytiri fell in love, although it being a believeable love story, I would've liked to, as I sad, be more informed when stepping into this story.

And I think it could've been better as a book. But it was still a good, not brilliant, movie.
I'm pretty sure the only reason they wanted the stuff was because of how much it sold for.
And they want to exstinct an entire species because of it? When they also point out that there's still more on other parts of the planet? Sounds like a bad reason to me, what about the rest of the planets? Wasn't Pandora just ONE out of like three moons or something around an entire planet? It's just not explained, and it bothers me.
