What did you want to be when you were a kid?

This is a slight alteration on the other thread, which seemed to more more for adults being/not being what they wanted pre/during uni.

What did you want to be when you were a kid, i.e. pre-10. The two things that stand out for me are a robot, and a pirate. Apparantly when my parents said there are no pirates, I replied that that was good, because I'd have no competition!!!

Firemen, but only because I was like, five, and every five year old sees 6 foot firemen standing in front of them and thinks...that's awesome! At twelve I wanted to be a Beta tester, and some kind of scientist.

Mecha pilot, which in the real world translated into tank driver, I was this once, I only regret getting into such a crappy unit and not taking the opportunity to get into a different unit. Few people my age (22) can say they have lived their dream, and it turned out to be a nightmare, so I'm currently looking for a new dream.

That was part of the reason I even knew I wanted to be a mecha pilot, curse you Zordon you jerk.

EDIT: I wanted the giant robot but not the stupid costume, I would have been happy with a simple pilot suit.

Game Programmer ( age 16 to Now)

I am currently an Edjucational Software Programmer, so I guess I got close.

Astronaut... when that proved to be out-of-reach, pilot. Only gave that up in adult life.

Did a lot of game design as a kid, with home-made board games and pieces mainly. Some of them weren't too bad, either; turned one in (Leiningham vs the Ants, based on the short story) as a project in English. That one I haven't entirely abandoned yet.

I wanted to be a teacher. I have no idea why, as I HATED my kindergarten teacher, and I hated school. Then I wanted to be a video game designer. However, I decided later on that I didn't want video games to be the main focus of my life. During Grade 8, I was told by one of my substitute teachers, for whom I have a lot of respect, to get a career in radio broadcasting, as apparently, I sound like the kind of guy you'd hear on the radio telling you about news or sports.
