Do Americans seriously think that we Brits are that thin-skinned?

Believe it or not, we very rarely take ourselves seriously. I doubt there's much that would get a national outcry out of us. Even if you made a cartoon about Princess Diana going back in time to crash her car into Winston Churchill and assault Queen Elizabeth with a burning Union Jack.

In fact, I think South Park already did that.
I agree. I think it comes from having the mickey taken out of us in almost every single American comedy in existence (or serious programmes with awful English accents).

Self-deprecation is part of being British. You'd have difficulty offending us by making fun of us.

I haven't watched that film in ages, it was funny whe I was younger but I have no clue now, I imagine 2 and 3 would be cutting it too fine with me, but either way there is no way I could take offence to any of it, it's a parody of the swinging sixties, I wasn't even alive then.

I found it quite funny and if its on I'll probably watch it, I don't feel offended in any way, probably because we have a strong enough culture to not feel threatened when someone takes the piss out of us. Hell we do it to ourselves half the time

We don't think. We spend too much time complaining about the weather, queueing, being despondent and raising one eyebrow or shaking our heads at the sight of Americans to do such petty things such as think...

By the way, when Americans use the term "British", do you mean "English" people or "English, Irish, Scottish or Welsh" people?

British people probably tink about what everyone thinks about: men think about sex and how to get it, women think about how to use sex to get men to do stuff for them.
I don't want to be part of this o0 yet somehow I'm compelled.

Yeah, I've lived in Britain for more than half of my life now, and think Austin Powers is fairly funny, though it can go overboard sometimes. Then again I've never ever found the office funny while loads of people do. Different types of comedy I guess.

I'm Norwegian and I find the two first films, and some parts of the third, incredibly funny. Though I don't watch them that often, 'cause as someone above me already mentioned, Austin Powers is fun in small portions.

I'm British and generally I find it annoying and not funny. The only bit that made me laugh was when that guy was got crushed by that really slow moving harvester thing or something like that... and he's just standing there for like 30 seconds going "NO! I DONT WANT TO DIE!" etc as it slowly comes towards him.

I used to think austin powers was funny when i was like 7 or something - too many kids at my school re gurgitating the same phrases over and over about fat bastard and the like - it made me hate it >.<

Define British, there's five nationalities could be summed up as 'British' (English, Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish and Manx).
Another thing, why do American's call us Brits?

Austin Powers? First films brilliant, second/third are merely a bit funny. Not offensive in the slightest (except Fat Bastard, the Scottish are not like that).

Yeah I think you're aiming this more at English people than anything else. And as an English person I'd agree with most British people in here by saying that nothing really offends us that badly... Unless it's calling up a famous pensioner who was supposed to be on a radio show and telling them truthfully that you've shagged their granddaughter.

I don't expect anyone outside of Britain to understand that but I'd say that nobody in Britain is truly offended by Austin Powers. Sure there are some people that don't like it but most people in Britain laugh at it. First film was my favourite though... It just went downhill from there.
