Play some cricket in the sun. People here have mentioned watching it, but my family always played it back in the day.

We've gotten lazier in recent years. D:

dear fellow, I do believe it is the Irish to whom you are, in fact, referring.
You've clearly never been to Yorkshire. :p

That said, I am a writer, with certain traditions. So that accounts for about... 65% of my alcohol intake. :D

Be disappointed usually.

What usually happens on the odd sunny day is sit outside pubs and drink, the rest of the time they sit inside pubs and drink.

Girls wear less clothes and the lads wear shorts.

We go to jam packed beaches with pasty white people, the kids ride donkeys and get charged a fortune at every shop. We either go to Southport or Blackpool.

The hot days we get here are a treat. They only come in a week, a few days or the weekend. In which case, Archers shoot outside, footballers play outside...Sports in general is done outside. People eat/drink on benches outside and some of use do a little of sun bathing.

Typically, the summer is renowned for children/teenagers simple because they get 6 weeks off school (soon to change though)

Heya peeps,

I gotta do a small presentation in a few days explaining to a group of about 40 Japanese people exactly what it is that people in the UK do during the Summer.

I'm looking for serious answers, if anyone has any suggestions?

I've already written down that people watch Wimbledon, the Ashes, and usually go on holidays to countries like Spain to get a tan, and have BBQs in their back garden. Is there anything else significant that happens during the season that people can think of?

I'll reiterate I'm looking for serious answers. This isn't a thread to make snarky comments about us Brits. I've already got them noted down :)

Many thanks in advance to anyone that can help.
What I want to know is why 40 Japanese people are requiring a presentation on it.
Also, as an American I don't really know what they do. It is the British Isles, though, so I assume it involves a lot of rain and perhaps tea.

Stay inside. Hissing at the light like a vampire.

Nonsense. Everyone knows British women are made from asbestos. Downpours? Snow? Who cares, cleavage and tiny skirts for all!

I'm not complaining, of course.

We always went camping and visiting Heritage sites (castles, museums, posh houses, that kind of thing).

Nowadays I spend it working or on the internet.

Country
USA
The things I would list are:
Music festivals such as Reading and Leeds, Glastonbury, Download etc
Have a BBQ with some friends and have a few drinks
Hang out with friends at a pubs beer garden
go for a walk in the countryside
Visit a beach for a day out
Play football with friends in the park
There is usually a few carnivals to watch
Go on holiday to another country.

The weather is hit and miss here but when the sun does come out the place can be quite pretty, all those green fields etc.

Same thing we do in the winter but with less clothes, really. I think a lot of us sort of convince ourselves that we're gonna have a BBQ or go to the beach but then we realise the weather's shit. Saying that, a lot of us do BBQs under shelter and wear less clothes despite the wind and rain. But festivals happen, too and people really do try to take advantage of any sunshine we get.

Personally I just sit in the house.

This has to be one of the better threads in a while for just the fact that a lot of people are just moaning about the shitty weather.

For me it involves going to Cyprus and moaning about the weather because it's to bloody hot and wishing I was back in England.....Didn't say I was above it myself

Close the curtains to stop the glare on the TV.

There's also the Fringe in Edinburgh and the Notting Hill carnival.

Most importantly, the Great British Beer Festival.

Go to Brighton? Seriously, you should see Brighton beach on a nice summer day, it's pretty crowded. Our beaches aren't even very nice. All pebbly and dirty (though that's due to the popularity I guess).

That, and complain about the weather. But I guess we do that all year...

Complain about the weather, but that's a year round thing.
Hang washing outside.
Camping, walking, music festivals, other outdoorsy things.
Go to other countries?
Go to the beaches.
Sunbathe? (though sun in summer is not guaranteed)

The rain is getting warmer, it must be summer :p

Srsly though, there are lots of festivals and events held.
Anyway, I'm not from the UK myself but regarding festivals I personally wish I could go there.

When it rains I sit inside watching TV or using the computer.
When it's sunny I draw the curtains to prevent the glare on the TV or computer screen.

We wait for the summer weather to begin. We'll sit there staring out the window for weeks until we get a couple days of sun, where we'll constantly comment on how nice the weather is that day.

More seriously, I can't think of a summer activity that would be exclusive to Britain, we just do summer stuff, like spend time outside under the sun with friends doing whatever.
