So people always talk fondly of oldies like fawlty towers and blackadder but what do people think of the more modern ones like misfits and the inbetweeners? Especially americans as its closer to their sitcoms than the older comedies.

MisFits and The Inbetweeners (personal favourites) are far edgier and funnier than anything I've seen come out of America. I haven't really seen them try anything in the same area though.

I don't like them, which is weird because I do enjoy other British comedy. I think I prefer the panelshows.

Misfits and Inbetweeners aren't...really...conventional comedy shows, they're more dramas. I dunno, I can't explain.

But shows like Peep Show, Come Fly With Me and the I.T Crowd, amongst other things, show that Britcom is still going strong<3.

Well The Inbetweeners was hilarious, and although there are some shows I don't find funny, programmes like Not Going Out and Come Fly With Me are proof that British comedy is still awesome...

Nothing will ever beat the classics though!!

When it boils down to it, Inbetweeners is pretty low brow as far as British comedy goes, I'd recomend checking out Peep Show if anyone hasn't already. I think it's really the gold standard of current British comedy at the moment.

I wouldn't really call Misfits a comedy.

I think there's a reason why it's called "British humor".
It comes off as weird for the people I know.

I don't care about anything as long as I have my Tennant <3

I love British comedy, it's the funniest around. That's not just because I am British by the way. I really do think they are better than any other comedy shows in the world.

I'll sum what I feel in two words. "Not Blackadder".
I may be misinterpreting this but, did you just say that you didn't like Blackadder?
You know, there's a special place in hell for folks like you.

I'll say for certain that I utterly detest Little Britain, Catherine Tate and so on. Also, the Office.

Bloody awful. Embarassingly so.

If I ask you a question what you think about a topic, say "Halo 3" and you respond "Not Gears of War", how do you then feel about Halo 3?

Alright, I'll stop being cryptic. It means GoW > Halo 3. I.e "This is not Blackadder, and thus I don't give a rats-rear-end, because any British humor that came after Blackadder can suck an exhaust-pipe and die from asphyxiation".

Not Going Out and The IT Crowd is doing it for me. Before that the Mighty Boosh was my daily dose of comedy.

Isn't "modern British comedy" an oxymoron? So yeah, i'd rather watch grass grow.

Ah, then we are almost in perfect agreement then, Spaced came after Blackadder and it was pretty damn good, there was also Black Books, though Blackadder is near impossible to top.

EDIT: ooh and Coupling.
