Killer 7. It could very easily be the best game ever. It had a unique style of gameplay, an incredibly deep and complex story that I still don't think I fully understand, and some of the most ridiculously awesome (and awesomely ridiculous) characters I've ever seen in any form of media.

BOW TO KILLER 7. DO NOT RESIST.

I must say I really enjoyed Area 51 for the Xbox, and most people haven't heard of it.

But the best cult game: Shadowrun for the 360.

It's really fun if you get the magic and techs down, and know how to work with your team.

Well today you might not think of them as cult classics or sleeper hits, but when the came out that's pretty much how they turned out to be.

I remember when Pulp Fiction came out no one had any idea of what to make of it.....some thought it would straight out bomb for being so different.

For instance Batman:AA turned out to be a sleeper hit.
I think that you are making a mistake conflating sleeper hit and cult hit when they are different things. Sometimes a cult hit crosses over into the mainstream but the identifying feature of a cult hit is that is downright odd in some way that means that it ends up being mocked by all but a small group who love it.

Pulp Fiction was a widely anticipated film when it was released as Tarantino had already gained a large following with Reservoir Dogs. I had no impression that it was going to bomb here in the UK.

I don't really think that any of this matters very much as there is an element of pointless willy waving in it but it does seem to me like you have heard the term cult film and thought about what it means to you without finding out what are generally seen as cult films.

Strife was a great video game when it came out. I didn't like Doom much but I loved this game.

I still want a copy of Bad Mojo.

And the greatest of them all was Master of Monsters for the Sega Genesis. Imagine a 4 player, strategy game that only required 1 controller and had various types of armies to fight with and strategies to win. Now wonder why we don't have more games like this! (There is a mod out there for the PC although 4 people around a computer isn't very comfortable. Avoid the PS2 version as they lost the point of a multi-player game by making you fight alone to build up an army that you had to then save on a card and take to a friend's house...which is completely unlike the instant choice of playing a multi-player or single player game option on the opening screen of the first one.)

Oh-and it is still selling for like $30 a cartridge...if you can FIND it! I haven't been able to in 10 years!

Jet Set Radio Future a really good game that didnt sell as well as it should have. it had a really awesome concept of roller blading arounf neo-tokyo spraypainting truf and battling rivals. with simple and easy controls and probably one of the best game soundtracks its definately a cult classic.

At the time of release, WoW really didn't have nearly the fanbase that it does now. In reality, it's the ultimate of sleeper hits.
