I'm making this(probably unsuccessful) thread so I can have a better understanding of what you guys consider to be your humanity.

For me it represents they way I feel, and think. I would still consider a monster(or something with a different appearance) to be human if he can still comprehend and reproduce human logic and emotions, but otherwise no.

And as a bonus question: a robot would somehow gain all your memories and feelings, and would be able to create and express more, would you consider that thing human or not(it will never go mad and try to start skyne; just so there won;t be any doubt)?

I honestly don't know how to answer, given the sheer number of times I've been called inhuman/sociopathic/generally a horrible person. I guess that sort of shoots down the second question by extension. Sorry.

I don't think "humanity" is the the right word. I'd prefer the word "person". A monster would technically not be human but it could still be a person. Another way to ask the question I believe you are asking is to ask what the souce of moral worth is. Given that, I think the source of moral worth/personhood/humanity is consiousness so I'm more or less in agreement with you.

I consider what I aim to accomplish is what makes me Human.

I have goals I want to see myself reach, something that I do that will leave a mark on others.
Have my time here directly or indirectly impact someone else in a positive way.
And maybe even inspire them to do the same.

My estimated time is nearing 1/3rd up, and I have only just been able to get close to starting doing what I wish to do.
If I don't start within the next 7 years, I don't see me being able to even start after that as life's other obligations will sadly get in the way.

I'm glad I'm still young, because as we age life gets in the way.

From a robotics point of view, what makes a robot no longer a robot? What makes it no different from a human? Self awareness? Self preservation? Goals, feelings, ambition? A "soul"? Is it because it lacks organs or flesh? And in that case, what of bio-mechanical robots and androids?

What about Clones? They were conceived and born as humans, look, act, and in every way are human. But people still would consider them nonhuman. Simply because they have no "soul"? They weren't made by God and/or gods, but rather by man, and thus they are abominations?

I see humanity as being a religious thing, mostly because when I think of it, I think of souls as well. But what of all the people who don't believe in souls or a higher power, or what have you. Would they be more likely to accept self-aware robots, androids, and clones as being human? Obviously, they wouldn't truly be humans. But would they be accepted as such in a social aspect?

Personally, I see self-awareness and free will as being a large step towards "humanity". Cogito ergo sum. I think, therefore I am.

My 2 cents, and I quit my rambling here.

My humanity is me, the fact that I can ask the question, make a judgement about it and not just decide to go "fight or flight" about everything I do, my mind.

I can decide to do the wrong things, the right things, any things I like.
They can make me more powerful, destroy me utterly, but they're my choices, not instincts and chance.

Basically what WayOutThere said, 'human' is merely our species, so humanity is all about genetics. Personhood, on the other hand, is all about self-awareness, consciousness and all that. This means clones have both humanity and personhood, while, say true a.i. are people, but obviously not human.

What makes me human is me. My body, my thoughts, my feelings. I would have flaws as well as strength, my opinions, and such. Without all of these, I wouldn't consider myself a human. Then again, what are the perks of being human again?

I would only consider something human if it was, as in it was actually flesh and bone. If scients say somehow made an artificial human that was flesh and bone, I'd consider it human. As for a robot though, even if it's fully capable of emotions and freethinking, I wouldn't consider it human. It'd still be a robot in my eyes.

I don't have any humanity.

I have a "self." My consciousness, memories, emotions and opinions.

Put my "self" in any physical body and it will still be "me."
