So, Escapist members, what is your job currently? Do you like or dislike it?

And for those who aren't working, hrm, what was the job you had last and did you like/dislike it? I'm just curious. It might me kind of interesting to see what everyone does other than waste time here. xD

Me, I work at the PetSmart Pet Hotel, which is basically dog day care and boarding. For the most part, I love it, but it's exhausting work sometimes and I'm usually dead once I get home. But it's fun and I love dogs, so it works out quite nicely since I get to interact with them 8 hours a day. And I get paid for playing with dogs, and who wouldn't love that? :D

So, what about you guys? What do you do to earn income?

My last job was babysitting a couple kids, age 10 and 6. They were pretty fun to be with, and we basically just played games and watched movies the whole time I was there. I enjoyed it, sadly the older one became old enough to take care of them, so I wasn't needed any more.

Last summer and this summer I have worked as a summer hire at a lumber company doing random things they need me to do around the sawmill. I don't do anything that actually involves lumber though, I usually do tasks like weed whacking or painting buildings. The work is okay, but the pay is pretty good for a part time job.

Last year I was working for a private Telecoms company digging ditches, installing wiring/cabling and traveling around the country and I loved it. Now I'm going to Community Collage and being trained as a Surgical Assistant at a Pet Shelter (No pay) and it's okay...

Nag on my parents.

A lot.

If there was a competition in the Olympics for nagging, I would not be able to pass the try-outs. I WOULD BE CLOSE THOUGH!

I co-deliver. I work with my Grandma because she has heart problems and I need the money, we deliver Chinese food. Income varies from night to night, dependant on how many deliveries we make and how many tips we get. Haven't been getting a whole hell of a lot recently.

I may be getting a job at a Gamer Lounge soon, I'm really excited about that. Not sure what the income would be, and it would only be one night a week, but really excited for it.

For the last three years I have been working as a Sandwich Artist at Subway. I recently took the assistant manager position. I enjoy my job. It's much better than most fast food places and the occasional tip from a grateful customer is always nice.

Been working as the over-night security guard for the last year. A continuing miserable experience.

My current 'job' does not earn me any money, however I get a lot of free CDs there! I'm underage and therefore dependent, so I get most of my money from my parents. They prefer for me not to work, since my school keeps me pretty busy, but if I'm free then sometimes I do a bit of babysitting, dog walking, that sort of thing.

I hate my current work, but at least I have it, which is more than a lot of people. Especially considering it's just a summer job.

I work in a warehouse, receiving office supplies (Toner, mostly), from Xerox, LMI, HP, etc, and a few other supplies like copier-staples.

We then stock them, and ship them elsewhere.

I'm aiming to be a School Psychologist once I get my Masters (and start on my Doctorate), which is still a fair way off.

I'm currently a footwear and apparel designer for a skate/street fashion company operating out of Sydney. It's a pretty chilled job and I absolutely love it (as I am a MASSIVE sneakerhead). It entails me designing shoes and clothes and then sending the designs to China to get turned into samples to sell to stores. Best part is the hours are flexible, the staff are relaxed and the pay is good. It's nice waking up and wanting to go to work for a change.

I work part-time at the "heavy lifting and helping retarded customers who don't know how to lay the backseats in their car flat" department of a furniture store, it's an okay job half the time, the other half it just sucks.

Oh, and student loan.

ROTC pretty much pays for most of my expenses right now. During the winter I'm a snowboarding instructor. I love that job to death but I have to ask people to please be in some form of good shape before they try to snowboard or ski. Seriously, sometimes I feel like one of the trainers on The Biggest Loser when I think of how many husky people have cried during one of my lessons...

I'm a cafe chef when I'm not studying.

It be an ok job, although my feet and back can kill after a long shift. I can't wait till I can be paid for sitting down at a computer all day though...

I work part-time, as of very recently for Australia Post.

Pay's good, hours are good, but standing up for 5 hours is quite the pain.
