Where do you live? Not like address but like city or region? If you miss hills, center Texas is literally called hill country. I'm sure you know this, but it never hurts.
I live in Richardson, spent most of my time here in Plano. I love Austin, and that's where most of my friends work now, but it's so far away that I don't usually have time for road trips. I took this picture out my window at work, it pretty much sums up what I'm sick and tired of seeing.

You miss hills and nature? Cedar Hill shouldn't be too far from you. It's exactly what it sounds like.
Never heard of it, I'll have to check it out. Probably not hills of the kind I'm used to, but anything's better than nothing!

Fuck guy. We're both from Pennsylvania, both moved to Texas, and both of us think Texans are HORRID drivers.
But, yah, what he said.
Haha, yeah. I can't get on the highway without seeing at least one accident. Every time I slow down to make a turn, I brace myself in case the driver behind me isn't paying attention and I get rear-ended. The only place that tops Texas is New Jersey, in terms of drivers.

Where do you live about in Dallas? I'm out in Roanoke, off of I-35W next to the speedway. We should have a little North Texas Escapist gathering, I'm sure there are a lot more of us out there who'd jump on the idea.

Did I mention we don't have a state income tax, fuck yeah!
That could be awesome. It seems like no matter what site I go to, there's tons of people who live around here. Also, the no state income tax pretty much saved my ass. I have to pay over 14K in taxes this year, don't even want to think about how much that would have been if I had a state tax too D:

I can't over-generalize a state and it's populace in sincerity...

But I will tell them to stop being the "fattest" state, saw images of "Corpus Christi" once... wasn't able to eat meat for 5 days.

I assumed most of Texas is like the most of anywhere. People live in normal houses, have normal jobs, go to their normal jobs in their normal cars. Nothing fantastically special.
Haven't got much personal experience though, having my ass parked in the middle of England nearly all my life.

However, when someone says "Texas", my mind instantly conjures up images of cowboys and saloons.
I think my subconscious is racist.
Not quiet, not really. Even in Houston, the sprawling metropolis is the 5th largest in the United States and you're gonna see ranchers every know and then in their cowboy hates, boots, belts, awesome accent--some of them are the complete package, even, and they'll tell ya to get the "damn Mexicans outta here."

I'm dating one now, but I find them entirely funny. They like to say they're completely independent and important, but pretty much any of thier claims can be equaled by any other state.

They're like each of the other 49 states, weak and pitiful alone, great and powerful together.
We were our own county for a stint. Plus our history is pretty intereting. Founded on war, rebellion, alliances, backstabbing, treachery, peace, cowboys, Indians, it's like the Roman Empire all over again, excepet without all the sex.

I am Canadian and I went there when I was five. so technically, I do not know much but there is an airport with a monorail and it was AWESOME!
I do know a friend who is at school in your state. his only complaint is that the beer sucks and it like drinking water.

Oh I know you were, but nowadays to be a free country. Lets say you do become independent. What allies do you have, what country to call upon? Texas has oil, and the US will be damned if they have to pay a tariff on that. The US (or maybe mexico) as my grandfather would say, "would sweep though Texas and destroy it like Smallpox through the Native American populace."

Texas would be crushed economically and physically, and I just find that hilarious because recently Texans all shout they want freedom and to be their own country cause those "damn liberal dems are destroying the nation that God in all his wisdom created to be perfect" and blah blah blah.

And outside of the cowboys, thats pretty much the history of any of the thirteen original colonies.

All I know of Texas is how you're portrayed in the media. That said it means I have to assume you're all far right conservatives who hate homosexuals to the point of wanting to remove them from the gene pool, as well as abortion and all the other big polar political issues at the moment. Also guns. Big ones.

I however can admit that this =/= all Texans.

From what I've heard, everything is bigger there.
In reality I imagine it's the same as most other places except more people are obese.

EDIT: Also, when I think of Texan stereotypes this comes to mind:

Ugh, state specific threads?

That's like me asking what people think of Nottinghamshire.
It has a terrible name. Seriously that is the most British thing that you could name a place. It would be like us naming the 51st state AMURRICANA or something.

Texas is to America what Alberta is to Canada, but with a little more Newfie thrown in.
what IS Alberta to Canada?
oil, desert, cowboys and hillbillies.
I also wish to note that this is only impressions from the media for texas, and from my family and friends from Alberta.
and my family go under the category of hillbillies.

Ehh, I think deserts, Detroit, Dallas, Austin, and NASA. I don't think much of the people. I'd never live there, I love me mountains too much <3

From Pennsylvania, with love.

They're probably all cowboys riding into the sunset on their horses while shooting into the air.

I know that they're normal people like you and me but I just like the cowboy stereotype.

edit: wait a minute.. Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory, wasn't he from Texas too?

Inbred degenerates, all of them! That drawl is just another symptom of what too much sun and a few generations of procreating with close relatives will do to a population. Except us people in Austin, we're perfectly normal (hence the saying "the best thing about Austin is how close it is to Texas"). The rest...ugh. Pity them, people. Pity these poor, sub-human creatures.
wow dude
Don't be hating on your fellow Texans. You don't see me talking shit about Austin. I would love to hear what you think of Houston,Texas???
Houston...Houston. Do you mean the city-sized landfill? That place which is always way too humid and hot, and inexplicably smells of decaying fish? Uhm, big fan! :D

Been there plenty of times. It's the biggest state in in the lower 48 so you're gonna have huge differences depending on where you are. Austin may as well be like living in San Francisco or Boulder, with a lot of the hippy progressive attitude. Rural areas are, well, just like the rural areas in almost every other state. Overall, mostly very decent hard working people. Good state, warts and all. Also, Austin has one of the best live music scenes in the country, especially if you're into anything blues related.
