And yes not everyone uses guns to murder one another, but the fact that anyone can go and get a gun no problem disturbs me. Yeah most gun stores make you fill out forms and what not but people get around that. If you want a gun and a gun show happens to be in town, you can get one that day. No background check, no waiting period, nothing. I guess then I'm more for gun law reform then, I don't know anymore.
But you have to consider that the kind of people who are going to use guns to do bad shit don't care if it's illegal to own them; they'll simply go around the system, so none of that security matters. It leaves law abiding citizens at a disadvantage. It's not even a matter of self-defense should a situation arise, but simple prevention: If there's a good chance that the person you're about to try to mug is carrying, you'd probably think twice before attacking them, yes?
First, I think people who resort to mugging will still try to mug you regardless if they think you're holding a weapon or not. Second, I'm not for getting rid of guns completely, I'm for people not having access to assault rifles or high caliber weapons. If a person has a handgun and uses it for protection, sure why not. Now if the handgun has an extended magazine and hollow point rounds, that's where I draw the line.

America.

We have an unsettling amount of stupid people.
We certainly do, but I've come to realize that like slapstick, ignorance and stupidity are some of the few things that are universal among all sentient beings. The US has lots of idiots (in part due to the fact that we are indeed a large country in terms of population), but I'm pretty sure that there are plenty of Europeans, Australians, etc that aren't exactly sophisticated.

Now, I know this seems like I'm a "Gaud Bless Amerikuh" drone, but I'm really not. Upon seeing all the complaints about the United States, I felt obliged to stand up for my home. I'm what many would call a bit of a "shut-in"- though I'm actually just too lazy to get up and mingle (I am an American, after all- laziness is a way of life)- and I can name no less than sixty acquaintances of mine (given time I could probably think of plenty more) who are all very intelligent and genuinely fun to be around. My social circle is very small, so if there is such a high number of smart people per capita who are also Americans, we can't be doing absolutely EVERYTHING wrong.

I don't hate America- I just hate our very own special breeds of idiots (Johnny Knoxville and company accepted, though). If you come here, I can pretty much guarantee that you're going to encounter at least some idiocy, but there ARE good bits here that aren't too hard to find, and they're really worth looking for.

Ghetto people, the fucking ghetto people. Even famous celebrities with millions of dollars feel the need to be ghetto. It's like de-evolution. An entire subculture dedicated to sacrificing things like education, hygiene, and any trace of common sense just to be cool.

As a New Zealander, I pretty much have the same issues as the Original Post. We're too far away from where things usually circulate, therefore have a restricted amount of access to things. We've missed out on countless things and half the time are so isolated we don't even know it. WHERE THE HELL DID NINETY NINE NIGHTS 2 GO?!

The same thing I hate about most countries. Ignorance. Also people who say "hella" but that's more of an inconvenience.

Guns are as much a hobby as stamp collecting and RC.
When was the last time a stamp or an RC car killed someone?

US

Like someone said earlier, too much bipartisan shit. We need compromise, tougher regulation on big business, and we need to get off of fossil fuels. Companies =/= People
Buddy, guns don't kill people. People kill people (guns only make it easier). I come from a family that is quite liberal, but we have a very strong interest in firearms. We don't keep them around for protection, but because they're fun to use (they make very loud noises- what's not to like?). Most of the people who try to defend gun culture take the conservative approach (they always pull out the "Right to Bear Arms" stuff). Gun enthusiasts end up looking like morons (and some of us most certainly are), but most of us just want guns the same way we want sporty cars- they're just a hobby. I've been around firearms for most of my life, and I can't stand the idea of pointing one at a person (or indeed, any living thing).

Taking guns away from everyone isn't the answer. Teaching people to respect them and keeping them away from people who will misuse them is much fairer, and I feel like that's what most firearm hobbyists believe, but don't know how to say.

I'm mostly ticked off over the crappy environmental legislation and crappier enforcement, history of human rights abuses, structurally flawed government, smug self-righteousness, stealthy monopolies, trade policies that harm both citizens inside our country and outside it and...

Y'know, that'll do for now.

I'm in Canada, by the way. And you people bitching about the weather here really need to buy a friggin scarf and learn to shovel.

Posted a reply to a comment I didn't realize was on the first page. Oops :p

Anyway, I hate the way that the rest of the world visualizes us (Australia) and that we give them reason for doing so.

The faulty system, all these stupid laws and the lack of common sense in general in Australia. Also our entertainment is pretty pathetic, don't think I ever liked any Australian shows besides The Chasers.

I doubt it. There's a reason they use guns: because they know you don't have one. They know they can threaten you.

Second, I'm not for getting rid of guns completely, I'm for people not having access to assault rifles or high caliber weapons. If a person has a handgun and uses it for protection, sure why not.
I think we can agree on this. Hunting weapons and small caliber handguns should be allowed.

Now if the handgun has an extended magazine and hollow point rounds, that's where I draw the line.
Hollow points are safer, actually. Not for the person getting shot, of course, but for everyone else.

America has no flaws.
It is the perfect place, full of freedom and awesomeness.
If you disagree with me, you are clearly un-American and are most likely a socialist, commie bastard.
If you want to question my intelligence, understand satire before doing so.
No offense dude, but that joke doesn't work, THIS many times. I think you should let it go. If you love it, set it free, right? :)
And Thank God, you left out that "Fuck yeah, America" Video this time. That was fucking annoying :S
OT: What do i hate about my country? Do Escapist comments have word limits? I guess I'll find out!
Actually let me give you the skinny: No pre-marital Sex....

...and that's not even the worst.

It's that bad

The snow and the cold, I hate it!

I live in Canada, specifically Windsor. Windsor's a small city within farting distance of Detroit, U.S.A., and is the southernmost city in Canada. Winters here are very mild compared to the rest of the country (information I know firsthand). But Winters still suck here; my town just got hit with a decent blizzard that was expected to have been the worst snowstorm since the dreaded storm of 1965. The storm itself didn't meet expectations, but it was still pretty bad.[footnote]Sorry if my paragraph is all over the place. I'm tired.[/footnote]

Why do I live in Canada if I hate the cold, you ask? Well, Mr. Strawman, there's plenty of awesome things about Canada, but the weather just ain't one of them.

I thought you put microchips in our maple leaves... I was looking forward to a non-hostile takeover by our secret Canadian overlords.
