So today is my Birthday but when I started thinking about it I really don't care anymore. To me, having people who you don't like wish you "Happy Birthday xxxx" on Facebook when you haven't seen them for years gets on my tits. Also having to organise all my friends into a night out that is supposed to be this big, special night just because I'm another year older. I also hate having to see family friends and relatives, i'm liking being on my own (but maybe that's just my anti-social attitude).
Actually getting older doesn't bother me (yet) as i'm only 20 but I fear i'm starting to turn into a grumpy old man early in my life.

So what do you hate/ dislike about birthdays? Or what do you miss most about childhood birthdays?

i miss the excitement of getting gifts, mostly.
Back then it was "OH YEAH THIS RULES"
right now it's more like "cool, thx (meh)."

Oh, it's your birthday today as well? Misery loves company, it seems.
Hmmm... what do I dislike about birthdays... I'm not sure. I'm spending most of the day alone, online, and not reminding my friends. I make a habit of not telling friends and such that it is my birthday. At least that way, the people who care enough to know might wish me a happy birthday.
And that also stops other people who I don't really know or like from wishing me a happy birthday, since they don't see me tell anyone else.

Please put what the thread is about in the title. I don't particularly like random people contacting me on my birthday who never speak to me otherwise, but I don't care enough to want to talk about it on The Escapist.

Sorry, what? I think I spaced out for a minute there.

Anyway, what were we talking about? Birthdays! Right! Yes, I sort of take similar attitude to you. I really don't like being the center of attention. I don't want that many people talking to me on such a short timespan. I don't care about gifts unless they're money, and I don't really want to ask for money. So yeah, I totally understand.

Oh, and since today is indeed your birthday, I'm not going to say "happy birthday to you. Instead, I'll say this:

"On this date, 20 years ago, you emerged from you mother's birth canal. You we're a goo-y, bloody, screaming, clueless, pink lump of a baby. So, good job on that."

Ummm....
I dunno, I suppose I hate being the centre of attention when there's a large group of relatives around. Thankfully I only really had that for my 21st, so I haven't had to put up with too much of that. I'm happy with just hanging out with some mates as if it's any other day, though with the inclusion of a lot more alcohol being consumed and maybe a bit of paintball if we could be bothered to organise it beforehand.

Happy Integer Multiple Terrestrial Orbital Period of Nine Months Subsequent to Conception Day!

I hereby commend you to overindulge in foodstuffs and alcohol while assuming a demeanour of false enthusiasm and enjoyment in the company of casual acquaintances! Many happy returns!

Here's a solution: Get a significant other and then let him/her plan our your birthday for you. Girls at least love that stuff.

I hate the concept that you have to get so drunk you don't remember any of the night (this is what my friends believe). It's just another day, I'd rather be spending it like I normally do.

Also childhood birthdays up til 18 were the best; it's just depressing knowing that a year has passed by that quickly. They used to take time back then.

Ah, but it's great pointing out that people are a year older on their birthday...at least via the net where they can't hurt you.

Basically this. Despite the fact that I'm only 19 going on 20 in about a month.

I personally like it that my friends on Facebook wish me a happy birthday. Although to be fair, I'm not sure if they would remember it if it weren't for Facebook's birthday notifications. Then again, I wouldn't have remembered their's either without it.

I really stopped giving a shit about birthdays when I was about 14/15, it's just another year, it doesn't mean anything, give me some cards/money, let's have some cake, then pretend nothing happened. I haven't had a party of any sort since I was like 15 either, as I really hate being the centre of attention, I hate organising things, I prefer to go to parties just to blend in, talk with a few friends and not have any kind of pressure hanging over me, for something that's supposed to get me to relax. In short, I like getting money, but I really don't care about the day itself to any degree.

Yeah I don't care about my birthday either, I stopped giving a shit when I started Uni (think I was 17), mainly because it stopped being anything special to me, more just another day where I had to do some more bloody work/study. The only thing good about it was going out for dinner and being able to tell everyone else to shut up and eat what I wanted to eat.

What I hate about it though? I hate how it's in the middle of winter so its always cold and I'm usually sick (like this year where I was unable to eat for 4 or 5 days and my birthday just so happened to coincide with the start of those days). I hate how since I stopped being a kid the gifts got a lot less exciting or useful. But above all I HATE with a passion the song "Happy Birthday"!!! Don't like to hear it and I refuse to sing it!

You're not turning into a grumpy old man.

You simply ARE a grumpy young man, it happens, you should mellow out of it in a few years.

Happy birthday anyway.
