game isn't very fun, but it can become addicting. the amount of fucking spam that generates on facebook is retardedly annoying. i played it entirely too much last semester, until i quit at level 42...realizing how much my life sucked. but while realizing this, i started playing WoW again, which broke the habit, and made a new one.

I'm not new to the forum but I also have a question as, let's call it sensitive, as the OP's. I dislike farmville but I've only second hand impressions from it. Please note I'm not intending to troll, I genuinely don't know and would like to correct my second hand impressions. My question is, is there any gaming skill involved in farmville, or it's just a way to sink time and (if that's your kind of thing) have fun? In other words, is it possible that someone's new farm gets bigger than someone else's old farm without the use of RL money, that's what I would consider gaming skill in the case of this game?

Ok I'll bite. I like that you can be very casual about it. ie Planting crops that take 2-3 days to grow. I think there's even a 4 day crop but I could be wrong. Or, on the other side, you can plant 2-4 hour crops and spend your day working the farm.

I also like the buildings, simply because the animals seem to be a bandwidth slayer. Being able to shove those extra animals in a building is super plus.
you are right about the 4 days crops. artichoques, green and yellow melons all are 4 days

i agree the stables are great as well, espechially as they will spare you a tennis/mouse arm from harvesting all animals one by one.

THANKS EVERYONE FOR POSTING - KEEP IT COMING

It's not really a game is it? If you want to farm, go and get a job at a farm.
Pretty much every game I play I would hate to do in real life, I don't play CSS because I want to be a terrorist.

I agree with the scamming though, I don't see how Zynga can openly admit to scamming people installing their games for money and still have followers, I suppose they said it on gaming sites that wouldn't get to their core fanbase though.

It seems that Farmville's surprisingly popular at the Escapist.

And it's no wonder why, it's awesome!:Edit: But OT, while I've never gotten into it, I have a large amount of friends that adore it. I think gives the user a good sense of satisfaction over time, which keeps them hooked.
I lol'd at the "It's about damn time" part.

glad you asked, i dont consider your post trolling.

you can very well play FV without ever investing any dollars into it.

every player starts with the same. very small farm - i believe 10x10, and 6 plots if i am not mistaken, a very low amount of coins - free money - and i beliebve you even get a few of their green cash - the ones you buy with real dollars.

if you never cash in - like my wife has not done, you still can grow all of their crops, buy about 95% of their trees - or get them as gifts from your neighbours -

only very few items are only to be bought with green cash, espechially their more fancy animals, mystery boxes and decorations.

i have spent money on my farm, simply because i wanted some of those spechial items. my wife never has. her farm is about the same level as mine, yet she also owns the villa and some other perks

so: the gaming skills compared to other games are probably limited, reason why so many of us 'old' dudes are hooked to it.
but within the game, your skills are asked as to achieve whatever you set yourself as a goal

you can go for the ribbons, or game levels, for coins in the bank, building - you choose your aim, and withouzt invensting any outside money you will still be able to achieve these goals

using the cash to achieve faster, is like using peeks and pokes in the c64 days

Well it really just depends on how you look at it. I don't know so much about skill involved. I play any FPS on the hardest difficulty first off, and beat them quickly. I'm not bragging. I just use the tools in the game and beat it. It just takes thought. So, does farmville require thought? Yes. You can just plant stuff and have a who gives a shit attitude about it. But if you do that your friends are going to be higher level than you, have a more impressive collection of items and most likely have more or better what you have. It's an economy game really. You can be brainless and just plant "X" because you like "X" or you can look at the numbers, find the best return for your time involvement. It really can become a juggling act too, especially if you're trying for the highest level (I think 70 at this point). Because you can plant whatever, but you've got to be around to harvest it that's what matters.

That's why I say it can be casual and or not so casual. You can be at a point where you plan your day around your crops or you can just once every 3-4 days plant again. You can be as hardcore as you want. Handle your farm strictly for XP, strictly for gold, or strictly for design and have really no goal. That's what you do in alot of games. Dex build? same thing.

Also I've never spent a dime on Farmville and never plan to, but I've got the second largest farm in the game. Not enough friends for the largest.

Without spending real money or spamming your 'friends' with invites you can only get a cow a tree and a weed filled sewage drain.

I'm not a fan but then again I was the type of player who when playing SIMs drowned the little guys in swimming pools or entombed them. I would say Farmville is a game like Chess is a sport, take what you want from that.

I tried it and didn't enjoy it. While it may be fun for people who don't wish to spend money on consoles or a gaming PC, having played console games and PC games, Farmville just doesn't compare

It is a good little time-waster especially when I am not near my games or haven't got the time I want to play one of them.

I played it for a while because my mates wanted me to join. I played for a while then got incredibly bored. The only reason i saved up enough coin was to do this! -

What game isn't a giant waste of time? Unless you're playing global nuclear war with HAL or whatever.
