I'm an aspiring gas mask collector. Right now there's only two in my possession, and I have worn them in public on occasion. As an 18 year old with no younger siblings, I guess it would also be considered odd that I have a Skylanders collection...

I'm androgynous, so on some days I get stares that I imagine are people trying to figure out my gender. Or I'm just spectacularly pretty/ugly.

So last Friday I returned to Jacksonville, Fla to play at Battalion Airsoft Arena for the second time, which was just as good as the first time. Now the first time I was there didn't really have anyone particularly impressed by what I had brought, this time was a little different however. Namely the guys I was with and the owner himself had never seen a WE G39C gas-blowback rifle before, so they were quite fascinated with it, especially the owner. And there's the question, what do you own that has got the attention of people?
Oh, nothing much...

Hey, at least it sounds like you can pull off an amazing Psycho Mantis cosplay! You get to wear an awesome Russian gas mask!

This sexy, obnoxiously orange coat:

Not a terribly good picture but that's the best I have.
I figured I would get more derision because of the colour but it's actually proved INCREDIBLY popular among people.
Especially the middle-aged women working at the higher-end clothing outlets at the mall.

Waaaaaaay back in the mists of time, when I was in my early 20s, I was the proud owner and wearer of a Hawaiian shirt that was a such an obnoxious tone of purple my friends called it "toxic purple". The bonus was the flowers, which were a very similar orange to your coat. On a sunny it could blind you if you looked at it from the wrong angle.

My other gamer friends decreed it an evil-aligned minor artifact called the "Purple Shirt of Ultimate Obnoxiousness".

My big Ol' Boomer plushy. Made my mom think I was a furry for some reason a few years back. Had to do with an episode of CSI or something. No idea about that whole logic leap but whatever, Boomsy is cool. I also have a beany baby stuffed anteater on my car dashboard named Antuan. Got that for donating to some charity thing at my last job which later turned out to be a money grab by a neighboring insurance office. Long story short, he's a cool conversation piece and he adds a bit of flair to my vanilla black Toyota.

My LEGO collection. At the time of writing, I have 364 sets, totalling at around 80,000 bricks, over 870 minifigures and with a combined retail price of over US$8,500. It tends to get a lot of respect, and is the subject of enormous envy by nearly all who lay eyes upon it.
dude im in the same boat! LEGO buddies! I've got just about all of the star wars themed large scale LEGOs from several years ago, all prominently on display in my house
Right on! *fistbump* I've got none of the Star Wars sets, I've focused mostly on City sets, but I also have all the Super Heroes stuff, as well as plenty of the earlier Harry Potter sets, plus a few miscellaneous sets from here and there. The City is all set up on display (and for play!) but unfortunately I don't have room to get it all out at once...

I have my dads M-1 Garand rifle that he used in World War 2, it works and I take it out to the range every so often to put it through its paces. I also have my first firearm I ever owned, a little .22 rifle from when I was 8. I have my service pistol from the military and a large shadow box with my awards, medals and ranks in it. Next to that is a small collection of lightsabers, Darth Vaders, Darth Sidious, Darth Tyranus and Darth Maul's twin bladed saber. I also have a Lego Super Star Destroyer thats over 4 feet long next to a standard Imperial Star Destroyer with a collection of various Imperial vehicles. I only collect evil/bad guy stuff. A zweihander longsword I had made for me when I lived in Germany. A full length leather black trench coat. I have a couple bookshelves with about 5 or 600 books, I always get the stupid did you read all those question. No I keep them up there to look like I read...

I custom built my PC and it is water cooled so a lot of people seem to think its odd. Its about 3 feet high and matte black with blue UV lights and coolant tubes. I run a dual SLI set up on twin 27inch monitors as well.

My camera. It's a Sony Alpha 330. I think what mainly causes it to turn heads is that it's friggin huuuuuge.

The only thing I've got that really turns heads, because it does stand out quite a bit, is my Sunshine Yellow and White '71 VW Type 2 van that I got from my grandfather. He gave it to me because: A) I'd expressed intresting it when he first bought it. B) At 85(!) he was finding the manual steering/breaks/shifting and lack of head room to be too much of a hassel.

When he got it, it was that terrible '70s brown, so he repainted it the yellow it is now, and made a smiley face wheel cover to protect the spare out front. I've since modified the smiley to this:

I guess if anything I own is worthy of attention it's my guitar collection.

And my 3 amplifiers.

And my effect stuff...

Quite a few things, actually.
My daily driver turns heads most places I go, being very British, from 1974 and in the States makes it a very rare sight:
My sword collection tends to either fascinate or scare the shit out of people who visit my house for the first time:
...and my favorite rifles tend to turn heads at any firing range:

-the PSL mostly for looking flashy, old, and very Soviet

-the Arisaka Type 99 for still having an intact imperial seal, for those who don't just have a "what the fuck is that?" reaction.
Please tell me that's an earlier Arisaka not one of the Last Ditch rifles. Also, does it still have the wire monopod?

I don't really have anything I go out and about in because I don't crave attention off people. Saying that, just going out the house without fake tan and make-up on gets me stares.
At the last Manchester MCM I went to, I nipped to the subway down the road in my cosplay, there was many other cosplayers there too. Everyone else looked dumbfounded at these people dressed up. Some builder cornered me at the drinks and said "What are people dressing like freaks for?" I told him there was an Expo just up the road. Pleasant man.

[sarcasm]My stunning good looks? [/sarcasm]

Probably nothing, I'm poor and walks around in second hand clothes and drink cheap beer.

Back when I was a professional soldier my uniform attracted some attention, but that wasn't really mine, was it? :)

I don't have that much that turns heads- my most prized possession is my bass, but whilst it's very nice (US Standard Jazz bass), they're relatively common, especially cheaper versions of it. Other bassists tend to recognise it's a quality instrument, but musicians are always interested in eachother's gear anyway.

My t-shirt choices turn heads every now and again, if people recognise the band. I suppose I'm a bit of a hipster in that I tend to wear slightly more obscure band shirts, but it's a great conversation starter when people recognise them. There's a really great picture of me and a stranger drunkenly posing together at Download over the weekend because we were both wearing the same Maylene & The Sons of Disaster shirt.

Does it make the sound when you put coins into it, if I am imagining it right?

OT: I have quite a few things in my room I'm too worried about breaking to ever do otherwise. A GP-5 gas mask and a longsword, for starters.

I also have a massive poster of Juliet from Lollipop Chainsaw that some random employee gave to me for free at Gamestop one time.
