1. What do you think of Julia Gillard?
2. Are there issues over rights for aboriginies?
3. Do Australians say colour or color?
4. Does Australia span different time zones?
5. Do you say 'G'day mate' to your friends?
6. What's it like having a warm Christmas and colder rest of year? (I guess you're used to it)
1) I don't pay attention to politics
2) Probably
3) Colour, we use English spelling
4) Yes.
5) Never in my life.
6) That's how it's supposed to work, it's the Northern Hemisphere that has things the wrong way around.

1. Bushpig.
2. Not over rights for aborigines, they have the same rights as everyone else. The issues are over the crime and poverty that a lot of Aborigines are subjected to.
3. Colour.
4. Yes.
5. Ironic, as a lot of the population of Australia is made up of immigrants. Some of us say that, but primarily the "traditional" Aussies, who chuck shrimps on the barbie.
6. COLD Christmas? Watchu talkin bout Willis? But in all seriousness, you've got it backwards. Most of our year is hot as hell, with a small cold patch chucked in the middle.

My country imported one of your tasmanian humpbacks to become a princess and our future queen.
She lost her Aussie accent. We're all ashamed.
Yeah, we domesticaed that Sheila a bit too well.

I actually cant STAND the Australian accent, or the dialect of english they speak, it drives me absolutely nuts, in a bad way. Interestingly enough, I LOVE the New Zealand accent, the vowels are more rounded and less harsh.

I personally think, as a Canadian, that living in Australa would just suck huge kangaroo balls, for a myriad of reasons.

-There are lots of deadly animals there.
-The native people are Aboriginals and some of them believe in a thing called the Dreamtime.

Prawns are a different group of animals, related to but distinct from shrimp. They actually eat prawns in Australia instead of shrimp? Gross if true, prawns are way uglier.
I merely simplified the explanation to make it easier for people to understand, tiger/housecat comparison isn't exactly right, but it gave people the idea. If we wanna get technical i would say:
both prawns and shrimps come from the crustacean family known as decapods.
this picture might help explain differences:
http://museumvictoria.com.au/crust/images/crusties/prorsh.gif
(not to scale btw)

What Americans call shrimp are actually prawns. (i think they call both shrimp and prawns shrimp... silly Americans)

Generally i'd say the distinction is you have shrimp on those pizzas or in fried rice(in my experience anyway), while prawns are the bigger ones you tend to have on their own when buying fish and chips.

edit:
-They really, really hate Greeks. At least the ones that came to Australia.
Not as far as i know. And being Australian of Greek heritage its something you'd think i'd know, if it was true.

1: After the case against Assange she's just another bullshit politician jumping on the back of America. Also her voice is so annoying
2: There probably will be, but from what I can see it's relatively equal
3: Colour. I still spell it color though, don't ask me why
4: Yes, and whats worse it that some states (QLD and WA i think) don't have daylight savings while the rest do. So living near the border of NSW and QLD can be very confusing in summer
5: Nope, thats for fags
6: Yeah, it's not bad. When i first heard it snows in christmas for America I was shocked. It never snows anyway here, apart from in the mountains, at sea level it's far too warm

The head of the team that discovered the process to mass produce stable penicillin (ie, clinically useful penicillin) was an Australian - Howard Florey. The team, however, was based in Oxford, UK.

1. People need to stop judging her on the fact the is a woman/redhead/has a really thick accent and start looking at what she does politically.

2. Nup

3. Colour

4. I think there's a three hour difference between the east and west coasts, and Queensland doesn't have daylight savings.

5. All the time

6. More like a warm Christmas and warm 3 or four months around it.. Then couple of cold months in the middle.

Two faced ranga *****.

Apart from Native Title issues, not really.

3. Do Australians say colour or color?
Australians say 'cullah' but we spell it 'colour'

4. Does Australia span different time zones?
Australia has 3 time zones, made all the more fun during summer when half the country adopts Daylight Savings and the other half doesn't.

5. Do you say 'G'day mate' to your friends?
Nope, my mates are usually greeted with "Oi, ****."

6. What's it like having a warm Christmas and colder rest of year?
Summer xmas is awesome when you're a kid. No waiting for some **** to take care of the snow if you get a bike for xmas, just jump on that bastard and go wild. Bonus points if it's before 7am and your bike has a loud bell or horn. TAKE THAT BASTARD SLEEPING NEIGHBOURS!

A swim. Harold Holt went missing while swimming in the ocean. We didn't look too hard because it's the ocean... the ocean around Australia... we figure he fell victim to one of the many hazards our coasts have. Beyond that we didn't really give a shit as Prime Ministers are easy to replace.

-Sydney Opera House. Made by a Dane. Looks cool.
Not true, it was designed by a Dane. Would have been awesomely impressive if he'd designed and built it all by himself but he was a slacker in that regard.

-They really, really hate Greeks. At least the ones that came to Australia.
Sure, if you're in 1950s-60s Australia. No one really gives a fuck these days.

Ants that have the ability to *jump* (so called bulldog ants)...
For some reason I feel compelled to correct this.

Bull Ants (aka "inch-men"... think about it) don't jump. Their bite is quite painful though.

The jumping ants are known as Jack-Jumpers. When agitated they move in short sudden hops, usually toward the nearest human. They only live in one part of the country (the island). They are about the length of a man's fingernail. Unusually for insects, they have well-developed eyes that allow them to see for up to 15m. Depending on how long they manage to latch on, their bite will induce either a slight stinging sensation or an oh-Jesus-fucking-Christ degree of pain. Later on the bite will itch like crazy for hours.

Jack-jumpers are deadliest animal in their home state. This is because a high proportion of the population is allergic to their bite. Occasionally allergic reactions will manifest in people who have been bitten in the past without ill effect.

I have no idea why I am telling random people on the internet about this.
