A decent game that is over-rated as all hell. But its not terrible by any means, though. Good fun with the right people. Also, Infection and all of people's stupid versions of it suck.

What I love about Halo is the amount of freedom you're given in choosing how to tackle a battle, take for example the battles with the scarab tanks in Halo 3, there are so many ways to take them down you can just have fun experimenting, unlike other more linear games where there is only ever one way to defeat an enemy. Also the way vehicles are implemented in the games is unlike any other I've played.
I love Halo's story and how effortlessly epic it all feels, the multiplayer is also great although I'm not a big fan of any multiplayer games.

In Halo, I see an overrated game, that in no way deserves 18 or so 100 out of 100 reviews on metacritic. Seriously, go check it out for yourself! (I would post link, but, meh, can't be bothered, guess you'll just have to take my word for it)

Agreed, I'd give it 80%, not bad, but not the god of games its made out to be.

The only people that make the game out to be the "God of games" are small children and reviewers which if you have any kind of intellect you ignore, the standard gamer doesn't praise halo as much as you're all making out I personally like the series, I've followed it from the beginning and have enjoyed every game, I like the story and it's depth, the graphics and their richness and the game play as it's more "fun" orientated then other FPS' like COD or CSS.

they just made it in a way it was easy to lan and play online and speak chat.

but over all it is really standard and shouldn't be considered anything too special.

"What it is, is average. Boilerplate. Run over the mill. A competent shooter with the only remarkable feature to a degree it's stuck up it's own ass. Everything it does has been done before, and better." - Yahtzee, Zero Punctuation: Halo 3

Some wise words I think.
I did like the first one though.

I see an average FPS that was only played so heavily because Xbox owners had absolutely nothing else to play at the time.

Halo 1: Ok, graphics arent that gr8 but they were good for when it was released. For me, theres just something satisfying about allowing a hunter to charge at me, leaping over it and then shooting it through its spine. It forms most of my early memories of multiplayer gaming (was 6ish when i first played it at a m8s house)
Halo 2: Didn't enjoy as much as halo 1. But there were a few moments that made me grin... watchin a scarab collapse, mc riding a bomb into the middle of a spaceship... the ending was a big letdown though.
Halo 3: Ooooh I said, on the first mission. That looks sweeet. Finished it that day : S. Dnt care bout the mp.

In short.
So... I enjoyed the series. It gets trumped by prince of persia and cod easily though. the story is good; simple, but its still got what I call the 'epicality' to it :p. Also, music is very important to me in gaming and the whole game has music orchestrated especially. That makes it a lil bit more special.
Tbh though, I just like watching the cutscenes. I tend to view it as a first person movie where you have to press buttons rather than a game.

I spy with my sexy eye... and I see a very fun game. People just hate it because it's popular. I believe the fancy term for that is "iconoclasm."

In Halo 2/3 (they're the same game basically) I like the Rumble Pit on Xbox Live the most. That said, I sold Halo 2/3 and no longer pay for Live. Just not worth my money for Oddball or King of the Hill when other FPS's like CoD4 offer a much more engaging, and real, FPS experience.

A completely AVERAGE game. It's fun, but I don't understand why reviewers are giving the games perfect scores (100/100, 100%, 5/5 etc.).
He speaks the truth.
agreed

and to actually say something of my own, the online is good, but I got tired of the lag in every other game I played
