I don't really see anyone offering any new ideas, only complaining or saying "more of the same," i.e. side-scrolling shooter. And that's what Metroid was, exploring AND SHOOTING. If you don't like what they seem to be doing, what do you have to suggest that would be better?
I actually hope it's a 3D, 3rd person explore (and shoot) game like Retro initially set out to do. That's Retro, the not-a-first-party developer of all 3 Prime games. Team Ninja is helping, officially, with a 3D engine, so I hope it's not actually a 2 1/2D game with some camera tricks added. But it's a joint venture with an in-house Nintendo group, so no, it will never ever see the light of day on a Sony or Microsoft system unless the big N goes the way of Sega.
That team involves many of the same people who were responsible for Metroid, M2, Super M and M:Fusion. You shouldn't fear change so much. Do team ninja need to get laid? Yes sir. But they are talented shut-ins.
What I want to see: variety. Since they have stated that it will be more linear than some of the classic games, I do hope plenty of exploration is still there. They've also said that, while it takes place b/tw (and partially including?) Super Metroid and Fusion, it will reveal quite a bit of Samus' early history. I'm hoping this game will help to connect all of the previous games together somehow, and I hope we can see some of Samus very vulnerable, without her powersuit abilities, for some stages. But I'll be pissed if Team Ninja decides to sexualize her further - save that crap for porn, giant cans won't make me care more about the character.
Also - just what the Hell was that ship that sped off at the end of Prime 3? Are we gonna get answers, or will we have to wait another 2 years? Was it Dark Samus (resurrected ala Prime 2) or that other hunter who had a beef with Samus?
Bottom line: the 2 minutes we've seen of (probably) non-gameplay have revealed something that looks different and, to me, promising.
Sorry it's so short, I'm not very verbose.
