Something to hold onto and one that gives you hope. Everyone needs faith, whether religious or not.
I'm with that one everyone needs something to believe in.

Nelith is a prophet
From the prophet came the king
From the king came the pauper
From the pauper came the swing
From the swing came creation
From creation came love,
You don't know what this love is all about.

God is... hivemind? Combined consciousness of those who lived, live, will live, and will not live (didn't have a chance for one reason or another. ex: sperm A was faster than B, B would've been a different individual, abortion, stillbirth, etc).
So if we stop believing in God will He disappear like Freddy Kruger?

First off I want to say this is not a post for any particular religion to argue about what idea of God is better.

There are a lot of different ideas of what God could be or look like (Flying spaghetti monster, Giant universe laying chicken). I'd like to hear what creative idea's you all can come up with.
Are you aware that there is a major flaw in this thread? Before we can discuss the nature of "god", we must take a step back and first consider whether or nto god is real. Then, if we establish it's existenace, we can talk about it more.
That would be true if we weren't assuming God's existence in order to answer the question or said person would simply not answer or go with the more clever answer of "he doesn't exist so I can't answer it." See, this is why we can't have nice threads!
Well we can't answer the question because god isn't real. If you wan to use a theoretical answer, i would say that god is-----a jerk.
and of course we can't have nice threads. Wouldn't ber any fun if we all just agreed with each other now would it?
If you can't disagree with someone and be nice about it then you shouldn't really be interacting with other people on forums or anywhere else.
Which one of us are you talking about?

"God" is a label applied to anything, but the ultimate manifestation of reality somewhat exceeds that which our mortal senses are capable of taking in. Consider the fundamental beauty of a flower or intimate miracle that atoms one day sat up and gained awareness as an organism and it's fairly clear that God is much more than a bearded man who smites sinners all day, and that whether you're an Atheist or a Fundamentalist, you're too far off on your side of the fence to open your eyes and see.

Not to disregard other's opinions, as the generation of meaning is very much the purpose of life, however therein lay my meditations on the matter. If you seek God, you shall find him, for he exists in all of creation, which makes no effort to hide. Whichever truth is the closest likely has to do with who was paying the most attention to what's out there, in skilled observations of reality, and the least attention to mere words (even scripture) or baseless imagination. For those who cannot find God, or even the crudely inaccurate version we are capable of perceiving with our limited minds, their eyes would need to be closed shut tight indeed.

In other words, God and all of creation (a.k.a. the Universe) are inseparable. We can assign a visage to creation, we can devise explanation for its means and rationalize its motives, but ultimately this is merely our individual interpretations of creation. We can claim that because we cannot accurately define God, it does not exist, but so long as all of creation does exist that is clearly a false conclusion.

I say this as an academic, about as far as a fanatic as you can get. The observation of reality results in truth, and that's why science works. The only trouble is that ultimate truth is beyond our means to observe and comprehend. What I've assembled here is merely the beginning: knowing where God is, what to do with your life? I recommend using your God-given mind and body to the best of your ability, as that would be very much by design. Pay attention, try your best, and you'll do as well as creation allows. On the other hand, if you don't pay attention and act like a twit, you don't need to go to Hell: You're already there.

I assume he'd be a lot like Sir Morgan Freeman, not because he was God in Bruce Almighty, I just honestly picture God as Morgan Freeman.
That or some omnipotent version of Father Time, except muscular (Not ripped, just muscular).

Uh, no I think you misunderstood me. Wherever you believe or not doesnt matter (ex: those who never lived can not believe). You are a part of God as is everyone else.
Oh like Vedanta Hinduism! There's a cool analogy that goes with that where God is analogous to the ocean. It goes something like, we are like droplets of water thrown up from the crash of a wave only to return to sea again. In other words for a short amount of time do we become individuals and during this time we all beleive we are individuals, but to soon (reference to the shortness of life) return to the whole (God).
