It depends. It mainly depends on where/when the plant the came from formed in the universe, but also on what technology they have.

Bloody hell, did that sound nerdy.

I think that aliens will be one of two things,

they will either be a race with similar ideas to us colonize, make alliances, trade, etc
or
they will look at us and think that we would make great slaves or that we dont deserve to live and they will enslave/kill us

I do hope that they've mastered space-travel, have a utopic society.

I think that they will most probably about as twisted as humanity.

You could've just said Trees, like me, but I like the Spawn suit idea better. Yeah, fuck that would actually rock hard- but they can't be like Venom, though, I don't want my bum too exposed and shiny. But Spawn's suit. Yes. YES!
Seconded. Though I really do like the freaky distended jaws of Venom...
How about just applying some talcum powder to just reduce the sheen on your symbiote-clad hiney?

So we have established that we wont EVER know, cuz it wont be within the next 120 years we master space travel and find alien life forms.

my first impulse is to say Twi'lek or asari...however in reality I think I would prefer something very very distant from what we consider human-like.

Though I think even before we have an open relation with another sentient species...Im hoping for something cool out of Europa.

What I would LOVE to see is once we get under the ice, and into the water, the first instinct would be to look for bacterial life, fungus or even things like plankton.. but I would LOVE if the probe turns and jus barley out of the lights range caches the fleeting form of a large " shark-like" predator attracted to the sounds of the probes motors, and lights.

Why shark-like? ( or even a predator in general) is because in that split second you not only confirmed life on the moon.. but a highly evolved and complex ecosystem warranting large predatory animals.

down side is that we would only have images and video to see the damn thing as I'm sure the equipment needed to get a live one to sea-world and keep it alive would cost more than 20 trips to the Jovian moon.

I hope we wind up finding the Zerg, and they eliminate humanity as we know it. Then the Protoss come in and save us on winged chariots.

But more than likely, they will be humanoid, probably carbon copies of humans, but with slight changes, like an elf or something... :/

I don't get why people have such a problem with the idea of aliens being humanoid. That shape has worked out pretty well for us here on Earth - why is it so hard to conceive that the food chain and competitive evolution would be similar on other worlds?
Because that would require the conditions to be exactly the same on whatever planet they live on

I do not believe we are alone in this universe, but I doubt that many, if any of the 'aliens' out there are beings that the human imagination can comprehend. It's almost like trying to imagine a colour that does not exist; you cannot describe something you have never seen.

I hope that instead of us being the inferior ones (take the krogan for instance) were the uber strong ones. Would be pretty cool i think.

odds are if there is enough magnitude of oxygen on a planet, it will be the binding agent in a circulatory system. oxygen is the most aggressive gas known to man, and there are very few elements that oxygen does not bond to.

however then there is the question of whether alien life will even have a circulatory system, i imagine the most alien and yet possible form of life would be some organism that exploits a highly magnetized planet with rapid rotation. like a humming bee.

Some kind of liquid being, that can mold its body into any shape. Like to see that!

They should be exactly like us, and developing at the same rate as us, so the first extraterrestrial contact in history would occur from an interstellar car crash.

An interesting question, heres my point of view:

The universe is big, really big, big beyond imagination, big. We are now finding out that planets aren't as rare as we thought they would be, so there are a LOT of planets out there. That means lots of chances for evolution.

I would imagine many aliens will be like us, the term is "Convergent evolution" some biological tools are so effective they show up in different times in evolution. I.E. being intelligent without hands or equivalent would be futile as you can't make tools, so some intelligent aliens would have hands somewhat like ours.

On the other hand, some aliens would be amazingly different from us. The first great extinction on earth wiped out 98% of lifeforms, the lifeforms that were wiped out had deeply different cellular attributes then our own. We can only imagine what such beings could evolve as. And thats just on our own type of earth environmental conditions.

Like I said, the universe is big. I think we will find that some aliens are familiar, some very different. I don't know about you, but I'm very hopeful to see some in my lifetime, however unlikely.

Depends on their home world, I would say.

They could be humanoids, if for some reason the evolution of their species has seen it necessary to turn bacteria into humanoids. Then it would depend on their athmosphere whether they breath oxygen or some still unknown substance. (Anti-oxygen perhaps?)

But it's hard to say - I'm no scientist yet, so I can barely make vague ideas on how they would look when the conditions are X and Y. In my imagination I say the Asari come pretty close to what I'd expect in terms of looks. Perhaps the Salarians too. I'm not so sure about the whole 'everything is connected' part though. Allthough 'Embrace Eternity' is a cool phrase.

Quite possibly there are quite a few different species out there, some looking like the others, some being completley different. (Elcor anyone?) Hell, it could even possible there is even another human species out there. Who knows?

Imagining is fun though, so I'll throw something off the top of my hat.
Skin/protective outer layer colour: brown/grey
One head, two eyes, one in front, one in the back.
Walks on four legs, has 2 arms.
Talks the same way we do.
Can't smell. No nose.
Gets nutrients by absorbing them through their skin. Nutrients are found in the air. Does not need to 'breath', as it also absorbs nitrogen 'their oxygen'.
They are intelligent in the form of having come up with some basic tech. Perhaps have created their counterpart of our computer.
Peaceloving. Only minor quarrels between themselves. They live as one, there are no nationalities.
The average adult is about 2 meters high, 3 meters long. Average weight is about 200 kilograms. Whole organism is carbon based.
'Men and women' counterparts exist. Breeding is done in a similar way. (Just because I don't want to think too much about that)

There's some basic information. I think I'll call them "Kurrtuks" and they live on the planet "Tyruhal"
