Shadow of Rome
I was trying to come up with a better solution, but it isn't possible.

Psychonauts, besides not that good a game in my opinion got a decent fanbase, even though everyone keeps saying nobody has bought it.
Seriously, consider: How many people do you encounter on the internet each day crying nobody has bought Psychonauts? They're so fuckin' many I can hardly believe the game didn't sell well.

No More Heroes for sure.
Left 4 Dead? Everyone around here seems to know and love that game. It definitely had hype.
yea, only because it's been released for a few months now.

Mount & Blade. I found out about it through an indie gaming blog. There are maybe 6 reviews of it, and as far as I can tell there has been no advertizing save for word of mouth. Oh and the game itself is friken amazing. Complete sand box atmosphere where you can do anything from overthrowing kingdoms, to bounty hunting and trade.

Overlord. I never heard it mentioned on the escapist, or anywhere else.
I agree with you there Overlord 2 had some marketing ideas but I never heard of Overlord untill I was browsing demos on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Great game but AS FAR AS I KNOW it didn't have people looking foward to it before and after it's realese.

Also Mother 3 but that wasn't even realesed in Britain officilly.

Only about three people I know knew about Team Fortres 2, and I know a lot of gamers. I've now convinced at least four people to get it, but that's beside the point. But since only the rest of the universe knows about TF2, that doesn't really count.
DragonBall Z: Burst Limit was a pretty good game, but I'm not sure how much that was hyped. If it was, I completely missed it.
If you'd played Budokai 3 you wouldn't be saying that.

Dunno if this really works here, but at least I dont remember any real pre-release hype.

Veiwtiful Joe. At least the first one.

It wasent exactly underrated. Most of the reviews I saw of it were great, but I heard little to no fan hype after the games release. It literally takes my friends a few minutes to remember what im talking about when I mention this game. Maybe it just seems that way to me.

My only hope is that someone here will recognise the game I will be naming.

MUSIC 2000 for the Sony PlayStation 1 (aka "MTV Music Generator 1" for those outside the PAL region)

To this day, it remains my most played (hell, I still fire it up every so often) and most underrated game.
It may have been criticised in the past for being "too basic and restraining", but in the past few years, the quality has really gone up since..
Would you believe that stuff like this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mV0GtqOMZUE], this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yzbZUJQ7Mc] were created on a games console?

Anyone out there still play this?

Well, there's the classic cult games that no one bought, but everyone seems to have played.
Psychonauts, Beyond Good and Evil, Okami, Eternal Darkness, Ico.
Those are all last gen

Something more recent, Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure. Either one of the Puzzlequest games.
I don't remember Crackdown getting any hype, and that was a good game.

Going way back, SoulBlazer got zero hype in the SNES days, and that is one of the best games for the SNES.

This is why I love Armored Core so much. Nobody ever gives it hype, and people assume it's just another game series.

It is the best game I've ever played. It may not fit some of your tastes, but it's something I wish the game industry had more of.

darwinia and multiwinia oh god such great small games you can pick both of them up on steam for less than 20$. On that vein TF2 not under hyped or under apreciated at all but the best 20$ i have ever spent.
