I thought Metroid Prime was amazing, and the only game I've played since that might be better is Chrono Trigger. So one of those.

Medievil. Greatest character in a game ever.

Medievil 2 and Resurrection were crap though.

Chess by far. The more simple a game the better, too many rules and the game is less of strategy and more of manipulation of rules.

Super Mario 64 the secrets, the level designs, the endless hours of gameplay. Mario 64 pretty much showed the world how to do a 3-D platformer.

I change my mind. I now think hide and go peek is the greatest game of all time.
Second to that would still be tetris. <3

I would have to say SMB 3. It is perfect gaming. It has a great learning curve, tons of secrets and a very good balance of difficulty versus reward.

I would have never put this on a list or anything but I feel it is worth mentioning that I definitely spent more hours of my life with Diablo 2 than any other game ever. I could still play it to this day and enjoy it.

Portal.

WAIT! Before ye bash, hear me out.

Portal is really unique, really innovative, really fun and so sadistically humourous I fell in love with it right away.

Now, people are going to bring up two complaints; A) it's too easy, and B) it's too short.

However, in all honesty I think if Portal was much longer it would start to outstay its welcome. The fact it is just long enough to keep us screaming for more, but not so long that we get bored of it, is a very difficult thing to achieve.

I would love to see more games like Portal; not Portal clones, but games that amuse me in ways beyond "Boom! Headshot!"
