What do you think is the most heroic way to die

Every time I think of a heroic death I think of one of my favourite films. In it the main character thought that if he died he would go to hell, but when the little girl in it was kidnapped he fought lots of guys and risked his life to save her. At the end of it he has only two choices: save himself or save her. He was terrified of going to hell but he still saved her before he attempted to save himself. In the end he died, but he never regretted his actions and as a reward he was allowed into heaven. (the movie was All Dogs go to Heaven)

Hating to spoil things but in terms of fiction either what Clint Eastwood did in the end of Gran Torino for that kid(Sniffle) And i've never read it but the book five people you meet in heaven this guy whos a lonely old war vet sees a carriage crash about to happen due to like, wild horses and theres a little girl on one of them I think so he manages to rescue her but to quote the blurb "he feels two small hands in his own...and then nothing". In terms of my thinking I'd say in a zompocalyptic scenario fighting off an epic horde of zombies with a baseball bat and a revolver (of course I'm wearing my mirrored sunnies and a cool jacket) just to allow some survivors to escape. I'd try to say before I got swarmed "Choke on 'em you motherf**kers!" And then shoot the gas canister across from me killing me and the zombies in a firy explosion. Sometimes I sacrifice myself like that in L4d.

Dying in a heroic manner has been totally spoiled due to the total faggotry of a certain attention seeker at my local hellhole. He claims to be depressed and says he will join the military with the intention of dying.

When we (being the cruel callous creature that the group teenage mentality is) tell him to just kill himself now and save everyone the burden of listening to his bullshit until some Iraqi puts a 7.62mm bullet in his skull, and inquire what difference does it make, he replies "In the military it would be heroic".

Which is utter bullcrap. Death is Death is Death, and there is no rosy sheen to put on it.

Sorry to ruin the mood here guys.

I don't want to die heroically, I want to die in a way that people can sing 'I'm an asshole.' at my funeral because that's all I deserve and i don't want to hurt anyone in the process. But whatever takes me, I hope it's not good for anyone. :D

I'm going to invoke some Christopher Nolan awesomeness here and say that a truly heroic way of dying is by saving lives while sacrificing not only one's life but also one's honour and reputation. By saving people in a way that no-one else is willing to do, by using methods that are unaccepted and in some way dishonourable, one is being truly heroic.

In the words of the great Michael Caine: "Even if everyone hates him for it, that's a sacrifice he's making. He's not being a hero. He's being something more."

Just my thoughts.

Going in a flaming hospital with Double Desert Eagles, saving a puppy, a child and a kitty. Then killing your own wife and children to save an elderly, because your family turned evil. Then exiting the building, getting hit by a truck, waking up in the hospital a quadriplegic and blind. Then being told that you have cancer.

Setting off a nuke by hand to stop the horde from overruning the last line of defense. And saluting your fellow soldiers as the timer counts down to zero.
Kind of like in "A Hymn Before Battle" by John Ringo, but with saluting.

To every man upon this earth
Death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better
Than facing fearful odds,
For the ashes of his fathers,
And the temples of his gods

Screw dying saving Earth from the big bad. Die saving the multiverse, all the other universes, while fighting and trapping the multiversal destroyer in a black hole for all eternity (or until the black hole explodes and releases it, at which point we humans won't be in a position to really worry about it, as the black holes will only explode after the degenerative era of space when all the stars have died and all life will have perished.)

Dying by choice is heroic given what the choice is on, be it another's life, slavery, or bad conscience, and so on. I don't think heroes are naturally given the name. They choose to do whats right and they do it with honor.

me killing hordes of zombies/vampires/other, killing them in droves with a hammer and a hatchet only to die from exhaustion while my companions look on in amazement all the while Manowar is blaring in the background. My companions will build giant statues in my honor and compose epic poems to rival the Iliad in my name.

I sincerely doubt there is any heroic way to die, because at the end of the day, you're still dead. The only difference is that you might get a useless memorial ceremony in your honor (which makes no difference, because you're dead).
