Game play> Story= immersion> graphics

It does to a certain degree depend on the genre and a lot of other factors, that's just my usual hierarchy of preferences.

A superb story and characters can make up for good-but-not great gameplay (and faults in an otherwise solid game), so I'd say those. Obviously if it plays like a train-wreck then it's a no go.

I'd say story/characters and gameplay are on a par.

Im gonna go with immersion..

If I can feel like Im in the game, it's got to be a good one. This naturally means that there cant be anything that reminds me that it's a video game, such as noticeable bugs, poor writing/story or just gameplay so bad or boring I keep noticing it. Graphics, however, dont seem to be such a big factor. I mean, Limbo was really immersive for a 2D puzzle platformer, for example.

Atmosphere can bring an average game to unexpected heights.

EDIT: This doesnt mean it has to be first person, though.. Arkham Asylum was incredibly immersive, for example.

Fun. Duuuuuuh.
Define fun.

I'm going for the atmosphere/immersion. All my favourite games share that feature, few are Third Person.
Fun - noun
1. A source of enjoyment, amusement, or pleasure.
2. Enjoyment; amusement: have fun at the beach.
3. Playful, often noisy, activity.

Good gameplay, naturally. Echoing almost everyone else in here with that sentiment, but really that's it. If I'm having fun, I'm happy. Good story does not make up for having to slog your way through the game to hear what happens next. I prefer the efficiency of books if I'm in the mood for a riveting narrative.

Gameplay then art then sound then music then characters then immersion then story and finally voice acting.

Gameplay is the foundation. A bad foundation and everything else is wasted effort. Games are presented through visual art or text so if they are not good then it's hard to have a good impression. Sound is also really important as games can feel lifeless without it and music can be important for giving the right feeling.

Then we get into things that are more like liabilities than something that makes a good game. Like, if they leave it out then you have more chance of getting a good game because it's apparently so hard to get it right but if they get it wrong it makes the game worse.

Immersion is okay, but it isn't really needed if the others are there and if it is actually prioritised above the fundamentals then it can kind of suck. Same for story. Voice acting, I can take it or leave it. If the game has then it should be good or it just makes the game look bad.

Gameplay is GOD. Absolutely numero uno.

Long-term replay value matters but usually flows from excellent gameplay. If the game is a true sandbox or a city-builder or some other genre that really benefits from a lot of player actions influencing the world, so much the better. More dynamic content helps.
