Indeed, if you hit a big Red on the highway your car will be mangled, even a bull-bar will barely halp.
That's why you get roo-bars for.

On the other hand, bull- or roo-bars mean you don't get crumple zones.

When they say "he was wrapped around a pole", it's not much of an exageration.

This thread beat the America one with the fact that your not asking the impressions from another countries, but individuals instead.

I believe there's an animal called platypus (ornitorhynchus anatinus) living in the southeast coast of Australia. A very peculiar mammal in the way that it lays eggs, the male platypus have venomous spurs and the species looks rather extraordinary.[footnote]That's the most I remember by heart about any animal. I'm not entirely sure if all of that is entirely correct, though.[/footnote]

My feelings of spoken Australian English change from very annoying to interesting.

Never been to there, but not opposed to the thought of visiting.
Hahahaha.

We got him good, he believed it!

I always thought the drop bears were more believable than the platypus but everyone seems to have figured the drop bears out. I've seen media outlets reporting on the platypus! Hilarious.

OT: I don't have much to compare it to.
"Silly me!"

I think the drop bears are more of a legend about what is thought about what some foreigners believe in. No, wait, some people actually believe anything.

Seeing as there has been a few "What do you think of America?" threads, I decided to make a "What do you think of Australia?" thread.

I personally think it's a great place to live but that's probably because I do live here. Just need something to do in Adelaide!
I remember visiting my cousins in Adelaide, and we went to some arcade, paid them a bit of money, then the store went into "lockdown" and all the games that didn't award tickets, which was basically all the good ones, were free for a couple of hours. So people had to pay for entry, since they weren't paying to play the games. That was awesome.
Anyway, I live over in Perth. Australia's a pretty good place. We do have a lot of freedom and all that, the only problem is how stupid our government is a lot of the time. With the banning of A-cups in porn and no R rating for games and all that... Idiots. Still, as I said, pretty good place.
Oh, racism does seem kind of rampant. With all the "fuck off we're full" and "go back where you came from" shirts and that kind of shit. It is fun to point out that we are nowhere near full, and we are also immigrants. But when the people aren't idiots, they're generally pretty laid-back and awesome.

OT: Gotta say, I do love Australia. Not in a bogany 'get-the-southern-cross-tattoed-on-ya-back' kind of way,
I fucking love messing with those people haha.
"Oh, you from new Zealand?"
"What, can't you see the southern cross tattoo you idiot?"
"Well, yeah, but you can see the southern cross from New Zealand too, and I don't see a boxing kangaroo so I assumed you weren't Australian..."

I think it needs more people and more potable water. I've known a few aussies, all good folks. But I worry about your ability to expand relying on aquifers so much, and your ability to defend yourselves.

Most of everyone is a jackass, we have alot of subcultures and most of them are dedicated to getting drunk, yelling at other ethnicities and driving bad cars really fast. as a generalization sport seems to be a more acceptable job choice than any other job, which is completely retarded. That's what I think but I could be wrong about alot of it because I live in melbourne and I'm a teenager.

I don't know enough about Australia to give an informed opinion but the impression I get, mostly from Australians themselves, it seems to me like Oz is the only country left in the world with a sense of humour and on that basis alone, it's great!

Australia is great
unless you are English
because you will get hated on if the UK is winning at cricket
or laughed at if Australia is winning
and don't forget that if you are English you are statistically more likely to die

I've scene a few "What do you think of Australia threads?", this is the very least, the second thread I have seen on this subject.

I think we Australians are overcrowding the escapist forums. There seems to be a distinct under-representation of Iranians (The greatest people with the sexiest president), and Canadians.
I agree with this. As a Sydney-residing Australian, I say we need more Canadians in Australia... oh wait. You meant... ah hah.

I love living here. It's a great city in a mostly lovely country. Just wish the game release schedules were better for it.

I was born there, I go there every year or so. It's a nice place, lots of beautiful open country, food is mostly good, people generally don't take themselves too seriously. I always recommend my workmates to go see it for themselves, since I think they would generally get a good impression. Also, mostly a pretty safe place, crime is not very rampant, wildlife kills relatively few people compared to your universal car crashes and so forth. I always feel very relaxed being there. Problem is, it is just so damn far from everywhere, the plane ticket is double the price and you have to sit for twice as long. It's a great place, but it's not twice as good as visiting another place that is half as far.

Man, the government there has got an amazingly bad reputation now. I was in a small town in Canada and heard two guys talking about the renaming Morphine to "Med-X" in Fallout III and it was like they were talking about North Korea. The funny thing was that this was during Steven Harper's whole proroguing parliament bullshit and we were also only 10km from the American border, where they lock you up for having a few joints in your pocket. Honestly, governments are inherently frustrating, the Australian one is probably less restrictive than most others, certainly most countries I've been to and especially the one I live in now. They let you say what you want about them and show tits and swear on free to air TV, they don't tend to lock people up on poor evidence or beat suspects and they prove free healthcare and cheap university education with near-free loans. Of course they like to threaten to censor the Internet every few years, but they have made less steps towards doing that than most developed countries. By government standards they are alright I guess.

Its fine I guess. Really hot in the summer though.
Our summer weather has been particularly cold actually.

I live in Bendigo, I think it is a fine place to live, wasn't Melbourne voted the second most livable city on the planet or something? Basically by only problem with Australia is the dramatic weather and the natural forests, the latter is extremely dry and painful and is not an attraction.
