I'd consider moving there given the opportunity, i would trade long snowy winters for brutally hot summers. Though i would never leave the cities, my luck i would step on one of the most poisonous snakes on the mini-contenient.

I don't really know much about Australia, and I'm not going to resort to making Team Fortress 2 jokes.
I do however think that the country's going to start getting better without Michael Atkinson.

Never been, my parents are going for a month this October and I'm extremaly jealous.

It's like the ultimate trip/holiday, but so fucking expensive.
From what I get when I look up Australia is that everyone there is so nice, there's no crime, everything is perfect. Obviously there is crime etc. but it looks like such an innocent country.

A wonderful country with (mostly) wonderful people living in it. I traveled Australia for half a year after finishing High School (as every German does nowadays I think) and it was one of the best experiences in my whole life. I hope you guys who live down there appreciate that beautiful and so very livable country of yours!

We thought it was an amazing country and bought a house there hoping we could try and live there but the business my dad worked for at the time didn't want to transfer him and we couldn't apply for a visa cause we didn't have enough points or something and my dad was apparantly too old.

Still thinks its a cool place though with its Australium.

Ehhh ... Australia is like a hot pot of various cultures ...

I mean the way we market ourselves to the world and the experiences of 90% of Australians is vastly different.

Nobody lives in the Bush ... I don't know any Australians that do live in the Bush ... I have seen the deserts ... and they made me want to go back to civilization... I have seen the forests and jungles, they, too, made me long for the cities and wish to return back to the concrete landscape that is Sydney.

And before you ask, I have lived here for 20 years.

We have the best living standards in the world and we're wealthy ... so much so that our governments feel like exploiting that immediate wealth which may not be such a prominent feature in future Australian lives on useless, moronic expenditures which do nothing but certify current gluttony, depravity and irredeemable hedonism.

Which is fucking awesome ^_^

Pretty much that sums up my argument right there.

If you think the average aussie does anything like that, acts like that, is like that ... you're in for an unpleasant surprise. We're a pack of arseholes like 99.9% of the rest of the world.

Though we do have pretty fireworks displays in Sydney <.<

Well one the one hand much of the wildlife terrifies me beyond reason, but on the other the landscapes are just sodding beautiful and the accents kick ass.

I've just come back from Australia. Go to Sydney, go to Melbourne, and go to Adelaide, they are all great places to go to. The people are great and good fun, more preceptive than the Americans, less cynical than us Brits. Though their cricket team does suck at the moment.

and don't forget that if you are English you are statistically more likely to die
How come someone be "statistically" more likely to die? Everyone dies so uh...
sorry let me clarify that
your statistically more likely to die due to things related to being a stupid tourist
i.e.
getting skin cancer from staying in the sun too long
drowning
getting eaten buy a shark
getting eaten buy a crocodile
being bitten buy a poisonous snake
getting hit buy a car
getting stabbed buy a serial killer (granted this is a more European thing)
or falling afoul of the many other dangerous native animals

You know, I just got a warning for gross generalization of a people. My only thought is the moderator must be an Aussie.

It's called sarcasm you mindless twitwit. Some of my best friends are Aussie. Well, not exactly. More like aquaintences. Actually, I have a friend from New Zealand and that's close enough. :D
