Still, the thing is they are dead. Dead people to not strong muscles have, either way, I feel, they should have either attacked slowly or done less damage or have a way to get some form of armor to weaken their blows.
Well, considering how those dead people are walking around, clawing at your face, could we just throw all rationality aside and assume that these are not your regular type of dead guy?

Hell, them being undead and possibly reduced to basic animal instincts, probably even makes them likely to be stronger than they would be in their human form.

All humans have bottled up power. Regular people just can't tap that power under normal circumstances.

Some athletes have trained themselves to unlock some of it though, and I'm sure you will have heard one of those "Mother does [Insert crazy shiet here] to save child" stories.
Yes I can believe that, but for the most part they are rotting corpses, their muscles are falling apart. Also people who normally do that amazing impossible stuff have adrenaline pumping through them. Being dead a zombie can't do that.
My complaint is that they are getting three hits on me and just wiping me out before I have the chance to do anything.
While this makes sense for special infected, I should not have to worry about a Walker or Infected flipping the fuck out and managing to get the lucky kill on me every now and then. Armor or as I pointed out above, different kinds of basic zombies would be nice. You know the stronger slower kind, the faster weaker kind, and the kind in between.

OP, play the game on easy or, I dunnoh, if you're not looking for a game with M-rated language, perhaps zombie games[/i] are not for you.

7 Hits? Hell, Dead Rising gives you FOUR! What are you complaining about?

The amount of hits I can take is not the problem. It is how much pain the zombies deal out in comparison to that, that ticks me off. When a zombie gets THREE hits on me when it happens to freak out before I can get in one, and takes out a good chuck of my health I kind of see it as a bit much.
Also as I said the language does not bother me. I was just saying most people who weren't in like the church were constantly cursing. It caused me to take some of the situations a bit less seriously because of ridiculous it was hearing profanity almost every line. Still that was a minor side not, nit picking. NOT A BIG BAD SERIOUS POINT.

The thing I most notice is the really, really bad texture pop. I mean, that kind of stuff doesn't really bother me, but good god above! Really, really bad.

That and the game seems really unforgiving, with three walkers running up and liberating my head from my neck with their bare hands in a matter of seconds.

Still love it though.
Yes that is basically one of my complaints, how the average zombie seems to have a 'freak out moment' and can just murder you with little to no effort. I still love the game too, but if you don't point out the flaws it can't get better. If there is another.

Well, it's not like they've been dead long enough for decomposition to start affecting the muscles. They pretty much have the same strength as when they were alive, but amplified by their primal instincts and rage. When you think about it, it actually makes sense that the damage can be so high.

According to some people, the recent 31mb patch pretty much fucked any saves made before it. I've wiped all of my saves and have started fresh. So far, the save system is working perfectly.
When some dies, which the zombies must do to come back, from what I've seen. Your muscles will begin to stiffen and be harder to move after a short while.
I'm not saying it can't make sense, it does when you put it that way. Still I would rather normal zombies come in a 'basic' variety, are only dangerous in groups, or have some kind of armor to weaken their attacks.
It is insane how there is the off chance a zombie can reduce me to 1 block or so of health just because it had a 'freak the fuck out' moment. I'm NOT saying this ruins the game for me too, I LOVE IT. Still it would make me grind my teeth in frustration from time to time, when I was bloody killed by a lone zombie before I got one shot in!

I don't really understand this complaint. Using blunt weapons the zombies get knocked down almost every time for me, even if it's just a stick. Also, kicking them knocks them back quite a bit.

OT: I love the game. It's fun, it's immersive, and despite its small fault of the selling system being more fucked than a porn-star, I think it's more entertaining than Deus Ex was.
Ok, I get blunt weapons do that, my complain really comes from machetes and other long bladed weapons not having a knock back. If you're going to hack into someone's chest with a BIG blade I think there is enough in there to give them some knock back.
It isn't a big deal though, overall these complains are minor in a sea of awesome zombie killing fun.

Let me further explain the intended meaning of my post then.

It's a bunch of Zombies.

If you take that for granted, without raising an eyebrow, would it not be equally reasonable to assume that whatever made these people into Zombies could also have had other effects on their physiology?

But all that aside, it's a survival horror game, which means the standard zombies should most definitely be dangerous.

Wouldn't be very tense if you were mowing them down.

Actually, no. That's kinda the point of the weapon being sharp.

It's not supposed to expend its energy on knocking the victim back, but rather on slicing through said victims flesh.

If your machete is causing knock-back, then you need to sharpen your machete.

In Dead Island, if using sharp weapons, go for limb severance. That's what they're for :)

What do I think of Dead Island?

Such words would see me banned from this forum, I have a PS3 copy and the auto save breaks every time leaving me unable to save the game! What?s worse is that my saves reset when the PS3 is turned off so I always revert to a level one character at the beginning of chapter one!

I don't know about you but when I think zombies I do not think super powered mofos that can slaughter me in three PUNCHES. When I think zombies I think massive hordes, slow, and insanely hard to kill. I DO mow down these zombies without a second thought most often, which kind of gets on my nerves. The best zombies I've seen are the kind that are hard to kill.
While I do enjoy Dead Island, I am just not the biggest fan of the charging 'rage zombies'.
In my opinion zombies are supposed to be deadly in hordes/

As for the bladed weapon thing, acutally thinking about it, you're right I take it back. There are bladed weapons with some knock back though, specifically the axe. :p
I do love this game though, and I would love to see another.

Act 1 was really fun.
Act 2 was good until FUCKING SEWER SECTIONS AAAAAAAGH
Just started act 3 and it's started off better putting me in a jungle.

In general it's a very fun game. Haven't tried out the MP yet though, doing a complete SP run first. Maybe on MP if I get cornered I won't die instantly. Speaking of which, dying... kinda does nothing bad. "Oh no, I lost $300, what a shame".

I wish the whole checkpoint concept would be banned from use in games. It's old, outdated, and just in general - shit. Even on consoles, we have big hard drives and large RAM pools now. FIGURE IT OUT.

I literally piss myself whenever I'm in Moresby trying to run away from some zombies just to meet another pack right round that corner...

Anyways, it's a fun co-op game and sp game and from time to time unforgiving. Which is fine, not every game have to hold your hand all the way through it.

So, are the problems with this game something that could be patched (or perhaps modded) out, or is the game just flawed at the most basic level?

I didn't like all 4 characters in the cut-scenes as well, it seems really out of place.
That, and I also feel I die a tad too easy. Not a big problem though,as there aren't serious repercussions from dying.

apart from those points, the game is fantastic! I am doing two playthroughs at the moment, with two different characters, I have played all weekend, and I will probably play it for weeks to come as well. It might satisfy my needs for new games this September, before Fifa 12 comes out.

It is better than I expected, I love the look and feel of the game, and the combat is just really fun! Not bad for a game I pre-ordered two days before release, just to try it out.

Yeah it is kind of weird, I'm constantly thinking 'WHERE THE FUCK HAVE YOU THREE BEEN?' or 'Wait what happened to my clones?' during those cut-scenes. If they made another Dead Island, letting us customize our characters would be cool, also making appropriate cut scenes.

-Side ramble-
As for the characters on the basic level too I don't really like them. Logan is a dick who ccan't take responsibility for his actions. Purna is an absolute ***** who not only thinks everyone is an asshole but treats them as such. That really just gets on my nerves.. Xian Mei is nice, I like her. She acts like a bit of a push over, but she is cool. Sam B, he is alright too. I like him but at the same time it is just kind of eh...
Thankfully the story isn't too important in the long run of the game so it doesn't matter if I like the characters or not, at least in my mind.

Having just finished this game in SP mode, and intending to COOP it with a different character soon, I believe that this game was worth the money, I've clocked up around 30-35 hours of gameplay from the game, and it was WELL worth the money I spent on it.

Although, I seem to be one of the lucky few who didn't have any bugs/glitches with game, aside from a few graphical errors such as weapons vanishing into the ground, the melee combat and explorative elements made up for those.

My favourite part of the game is definitely Act 1, you're just starting out and are basically switching weapons between every few battles which for me gave it a survival element, alongside the use of using soda cans to heal and there was barely any use of guns.

Act 2 was also pretty good, the area was quite awesome to explore aswell as the constant threat of groups of zombies attacking you, however it was let down slightly from the exponential increase in availability of guns, seriously like every thug either having an assault rifle or a pistol, however sewers felt like it was copied and pasted.

Act 3 was my least favourite, environment was nice but also looked like it was copied and pasted to take up space.

In conclusion I'd say that the game is worth a purchase, and rate it atleast 7.5/10, probably higher if I had played COOP with my friends, the story is there to basically push the player to different areas and is lackluster, characters in the game aren't really fleshed out, moreso just introduced to give a quest more than anything, quests were similar to borderlands but were still quite fun, again though, the melee combat and explorative elements really made this game for me, being able to remove limbs from zombies/playing strategically e.g removing arms from thugs was pretty awesome.

It seems the upgrades to my items are wasted when i spend half my time throwing my items, which is my characters specialty.

Everything respawns, it's sort of annoying/predictable knowing that health pack i just picked up will always be there.

The sensitivity in game doesn't apply to the menu (at least for me). The mouse is SO SLOW in the menus.

No third person view for driving? (I may just not know the command/key for it though)

When you pick up items sometimes it replaces the current item you have equipped. I thought you had to hold F to replace the item currently equipped, but this doesn't occur. I end up swinging at a zombie, pick up some items, and then drink alcohol instead of kill the zombie.

Also weapons repair-level get degraded very quickly. It's even more annoying that just swinging the weapon will lower it's repair level, it should only lower when killing enemies.

Some nitpicky complaints at best, overall a nice game.

The game was great until I beat it. When I started up a new game I quickly learned that being level 35 sucked because I couldn't respec, weapons didn't scale. So now It's hard for me to keep playing but I will.

I like it a lot. I'm really enjoying the frantic feeling of having my ass kicked constantly in the city. And actually having to run away from the zombies is an element more zombie games should have. The combat is great and I get the feeling if I master the dodge move I will be way better at combat.

So this are my thoughts on the game:
I don't like hip hop very much, but I love the intro song "WHO DO YOU VOODOO *****"
At first I didnt like the game too much. Not scary. All zombies have like 2 attack scripts and thats it. Infected? Throw something, kick, finish. Walker? dodge, kick, finish. Thug? dodge, poke till they go BLAAAARGH, then go for the head.
So... kinda lame. Till I turned Health Bars and damage done off in the game options. Felt like an interly different game.
If you did not try this out yet, do it. 10 x better
