So, for anyone who got LittleBigPlanet 2 as soon as it was released, what's your opinion on the game? Also, I know it's very early, but has anyone made any levels, or is in the middle of making a really awesome level?

I only just got it today, and haven't made anything, but I've played a bit of the story. To be honest, while the game definitely looks and sounds better than the first, I have yet to find anything that would have constituted the need to produce an actual sequel, rather than just more downloadable packs, except maybe the introduction of cutscenes. Course, it's early days yet, and I haven't had the chance to try out the apparently amazing level editor, but that's just my opinion so far.

Thoughts?

I can't tell you how I feel about the game yet, I should get it later today, hopefully. I'm really looking forward to it though, I found the first really enjoyable and from everything I've read and heard about the game, this new one is an improvement.

As you said yourself, I think the justification for an entire new game will be apparent, once people get the game and figure out the level editor. You're supposed to make almost anything you'd like. Anyway, I'll probably come back later or something, once I actually try the game out, I just thought I'd throw in my two cents and not let the thread die without any replies!

I might be getting it today, I'm looking forward to just how much content you can do. I think the additions in the sequel justifies it, and i've heard it has a much better single player than the original.

For me it really needs to fix the problem of lag when playing online, also I found it impossibly hard to find good levels because every one would just heart everything so there was no way of judging wether it was good or if a bunch of 5 year olds had just hearted it and rated it 5 just because it dumped point bubbles on you.

Thoughts is just the word you're looking for. The gameplay isnt meant to be taken all that seriously, its basically a grind to unlock new bits and peices for the level editor, the only difference is that it's slightly more humorous and challenging than picking flowers. So in a way, that's also a plus!

As for the level editor well.. Its only as good as your thoughts. If you have it in you to create an amazing 3D experience designed from your own ideas and tastes, then that is LittleBigPlanet's gaming challenge right there. If you just want to create something with a few boxes decorated with stickers to jump over, then that's all you're capable of doing and thus the game doesn't push you into something you dont want to do. This is a game that genuinely is for all ages so the question isn't "is this the game for me?" The fact that this is the second in the series means people should know what they're buying this time and should be asking themselves, "what do I want to do in LittleBigPlanet2?"
The sharing of ideas is better when you've got something to show for them.

(so yeah, expect 5 year olds to be online, they're not there to piss you off, they're playing and creating just like you)

I had great fun creating a kinda Candy Land / Toy theme park ride drawn from the fact I have 4 year old step-daughter who is just started using analog sticks =)

Give the game time, think creative and dont feel like you have to do anything to make it better because its already there at your fingertips.

Well what do you expect, it only came out yesterday, and it takes time to make a masterpiece.

However you can look forward to the creative projects that are being made, I've even heard that someone is trying to remake final fantasy 7 on it.

Also, you can even make fps's.

I meant that LBP2 had to fix LBP1's problem of being hard to find good level's, im aussie so I dont have LBP2 yet and probably won't till april (confused why it's not like they have to localize it or anything.)

About the user made levels, I've heard they're carrying over all LBP 1's levels too so no one has to abandon all thier variations on "drive into a wall at mach 4" levels. Even if they haven't there's still, you know, the actual game to fuck around in.

What I really liked about the original LBP was that it didn't have cutscenes. It didn't really need them, ya know? I guess the ability to make a cutscene though, is pretty sweet. I don't know if I'll be getting this or not.

Controls still felt really floaty to me, from the demo at least.

I'll wait until the inevitable GOTY edition.

I have it but I haven't played it yet. I'll probably get started this weekend.

What I'm really looking forward to is all the creations people make. The new level creator is much more robust. Some of the ideas I've heard people talk about, man... those people have a lot of patience.

Yeah the level creator is really robust. I am going to attempt an Amnesia-inspired leveled. Though I probably won't capture the same horror. I can still go for some interesting atmosphere. So far though, I still need to get some more materials from the story.

Where I am so far is a ten second cutscene.

Dude, I'm Australian. LBP2 just came out yesterday.

I've just gone through all the tutorials (it's worth it just to hear Stephen Fry talk), and I tell you what, there's certainly plenty of options, and even I was a little overcome with the complexity of some of it, let alone the game's younger target audience. I'm hoping that I'll be able to create some simple 3D platformers (proper 3D, not 2.5D), but at the moment I'm still at a loss how. Plenty to learn and do.

Oh really, my little sister said it was coming out in april, although she is the kind of person who played point bubble levels and gave them 5 and gave proper levels 2 because she couldn't beat them.

Really? Because I'm also an Aussie, and I saw an ad for it on TV just a few hours ago. I'm pretty sure it's already out.
