i've had a love hate relationship with the latest CoD games, no doubt due to the politics behind them. cod 4 (infinity ward) was great. World at War (treyarch) was, in my opinion, a complete rip off of CoD 4 but with a world war 2 skin thrown over it. modern warfare 2 was alright, but you could tell that infinity ward didnt want to make it. and black ops (treyarch with some ex-infinity ward employees) felt like one of those movies that takes itself too seriously and ends up being a comedy in disguise.

despite all this i still end up getting the games (only rented WaW). but im not fond of the yearly release schedule, i feel like it stunts innovation (one of the reasons i dont play sports games). however, if im not mistaken MW3 is made by a new dev team (could someone confirm that, please?), and it goes back to the present day setting that i enjoyed more than ww2 and vietnam.

on top of everything else, activision recently said they were pretty much dropping everything and making only yearly CoD games and Warcraft releases, that didnt make me happy.

so thats my rambling on the subject. what do you think of Modern Warfare 3?

MW3 will be made by Raven, Sledgehammer, and the new Infinity Ward.
WHen did Activision say that?
MW3 looks pretty cool.

Looks like a michael bay film. Which is a good thing, I enjoy not overanalysing everything I play.

Meh, i think the series hit its peak with Black Ops, finally adding features fans had been wanting for some time. A new cod game gets released every year, its essentially turned into Madden, granted the game gives you more for your 60$ but still it's essentially the same game with improved graphics, updated multiplayer, and a usually short campaign. I think people will get sick of it eventually, i mean it's the same principal as eating your favorite food everyday, first 4 days its fine but after day five you get sick of it, and it loses it's special meaning. We are seeing an abundance of modern era first person shoters, just like a couple of years ago when the industry was flooded with ww2 fps's, eventually those went away, and so will this fad.

It'll be like all the other versions of the COD franchise, just not as good as any of them...

I think it will continue the trend of getting progressively worse from the gem that was CoD4. Every game since then has been worse and worse and worse. I'm especially wary since it's being handled by 3 different studios. A lot of conflicting ideas could mean trouble for multiplayer.

It looks good. But I play them for the campaign, and the last MW left a bad taste in my mouth. I hope this one's campaign makes up for its predecessor's shortcomings.

How can we form an opinion of a game we haven't even seen yet?

all we have is one trailer, of pretty much cutscene material, so I (and probably other people) can't form an opinion yet. There's really nothing to base an opinion on except for previous games, which can only say so much.

I'll keep an eye on it, but can't say whether or not it'll be any good

its true we cant make a real opinion on the full game yet, what i mean is what do you think its going to be like or what are your opinions on it now (with only the trailers), or just a general cod discussion

I might actually get this one for the fact you can play as American and her closest buddies Britland, France, and Deutschland!

I've never really thought about it like this. Good point. I'm definitely getting Battlefield 3, but MW3 will really have to show improvements for me to really look into it.

I really don't have much of an opinion until I hear about how the multiplayer will work and what features will be chopped out from the PC version. Seriously I'm still mad by the fact there is no high roller for Black Ops (which pretty much made wager matches pointless) and the whole you have to leave servers completely to get contracts and change your loadouts/killstreaks.
I would absolutely love MW3 if they dropped the everyone gets commando nonsense from BOps, and make the knife a tactical option for the pistol only, or just a separate weapon completely (no more panic/rush knife). Also bring back the throwing knife instead of the tomahawk, the travel time/ general odd pathing makes it such an unreliable weapon. Way too many times have I experienced a situation where I tried to fast throw a tomahawk into an enemy and it just looks like it passes through him (seriously, half the damn time I think the tomahawk's hilt must have hit the guy and just not counted it as a kill unless the sharp end hits the guy) and I get gunned down or I get killed and then the tomahawk finally reaches the guy and kills him. Also make an auto pick up for the damned things, they are often hard to find and because you killed someone with it you have to pause over the body and pick up the thing, if you try to just run over the body and hit pickup half the time you pick up the dead guy's gun. And because of the whole recover and having to pause you often leave yourself open to an easy attack.

Kill it, kill it with fire and holy water, and while we're at it, take out those other multiplayer douche-community based games.

What did we get from games like CoD? In the short term we got a mediocre game that could just as well been a movie, in the long term we got the worst type of human abuse there can be. These multiplayer based games only reinforce the idea of "shoot it and t-bag it" that has effectively ruined the face of what it means to be a gamer. We used to be nerds and geeks, and I could live with that, but now people think that being a gamer means being a violent teen with ego issues and an overbearing loud mouth of unrepeatable vanacular. To do well in these games just means being abused by its people more. And when the community gets to be too much? Where do people go when they're sick of other people? Nowhere, there is no co-op or single player experiences in games like this. They're ignored so the developers can focus more on making douchebags happy.

sure there are many in the multiplayer community that can be dicks. but they're are just an outspoken minority. whereas the most people who play dont even talk. besides you can also just mute them or not wear a microphone. and i will agree that the more recent cods leave much to be desired in terms of story, Cod 4 was exceptional. tearing away from the ww2 fad of shooters, daring to kill the player halfway through the game, and even rivaling the halo juggernaut. and then there's the co-op mode on modern warfare 2, a feature that my roommate and i enjoyed extensively.

so yes, you're right that there are loud mouthed pricks on the internet, taking advantage of their anonymity. and lately the series has turned into a yearly money maker for activision, but that doesnt mean there arent redeeming values to the series.

I actually like the CoD games. My biggest issues is that they just fix the game. Alot of unfair stuff in them that annoys me. And PLEASE BAN the obvious hackers on the leaderboard. I swear if I could ask Infinity Ward one question, is why they let such blatant hacking?

Treyarch CoD is inferior to Infinity Ward, so Im hoping they take the good from Black Ops, and atleast try to fix balancing issues.

Could also perhaps add an anti knifing perk or make the knife into equipment or something. But thats just wishful thinking there.
But Im looking forward to collecting Emblems and stuff again, and not BUYING EVERYTHING!

Well, with new dev teams added in to the mix, the fact that I think the previous two games (the only ones in the CoD series I've played) were both a load of tripe doesn't mean much.

I only have one thing that keeps me from getting even the slightest bit interested is that I have a fear of the CoD series based off of the fact that you can't turn off the aim assist in either MW2 or BlOps. (Yeah, you could in BlOps, but only in Multiplayer, not singleplayer or zombies, which isn't good enough for me)
If I get confirmation somewhere that you can turn it off in MW3, I might give it a shot.
