If someone you knew farted in public, never thanked anyone, always held their knife like a club etc. would you think any lesser of them?

I don't really mind. As long as they aren't huge dicks.

Like most things, manners are subjective.

I've been brought up to always hold doors open for people, be they male or female. I've also been brought up to always say please and thankyou. You'd think those are pretty good manners right? Then I flick a cigarette end out of my car window and I'm seen as evil.

To me, the cigarette end is nothing, especially on a motorway or another high speed road, but to someone else the very idea of dropping anything on the floor is completely abhorrent. The same way that I never break wind in public or near others, simply out of courtesy, yet some people will happily stand there and let one go and carry on the conversation like it was nothing.

I tend to just take everyone as they come as a result. Worry about yourself and let others live how they wish, that way you can be happy that you have upheld your own standards for yourself. I don't think any less of people with different manners to myself simply because everyone is brought up in a different way.

i like people with some manners, i hate people who spit and fart in public. Just as long as they don't act like loud disgusting dickheads i'm fine with them.

I tolerate it. It certainly grates at me, but I'm usually not around them long enough to lose my patience.

Depends on the situation. I let most things slide but when someone does something gross it irritates the hell out of me. This is stuff like blowing their nose at the table in a restaurant or spitting in public. I swear if I ever did something like that my Mom would come back just to slap the shit out of me.

I can stand it personally.

I can say please and thank you on my own, but on the rare occasions that I don't, everyone around me jumps down my neck, or they jump down my neck before I have a chance to even say please and thank you in the first place.

I can tolerate burping and farting, who cares? Are you supposed to hold the bastard in? I also hate being told that I should be holding my fork in my left hand and my knife in the right. And eating meat without cutting it, or putting elbows in the table, or slurping.

So obviously, I don't hang out with such boring people. I wish they would shut the fuck up for being so uptight about nothing.

It really depends who it is and in what context. In general I take offense but don't say anything, unless they're outrageously rude.

One that really irritates me for no real reason is people that point with their middle finger. It just seems like they are flipping you the bird, even if that is not their intent. My dad does it and it drives me nuts.
